  1. Jack is perhaps at his very best when with musicians of great caliber who inspire him to really bring it. But his own recordings are well worth seeking out--the Capitol, Roulette and Verve are excellent. Following up with another Jackson. Jack Teagarden “Mis’ry and the Blues” Verve mono LP I just had to buy a mono version of this release. I have had both mono and stereo LPs of both of his other two (excellent) Verve releases and there is a significant enough difference between them (both great) to own both versions and I had to experience that duality with this title (perhaps my favorite). It has a great balance of band and Jack both singing and playing trombone. And a nice balance of punch and swing. Love this music so much! Don Goldie plays great trumpet on this date as well.
  2. Shades of Night–The Trombone Sytlings of Jack Teagarden, arranged by Sid Feller” Capitol mono LP I bought another mono copy of this and am listening to it. It came in a lot of four Teagarden LPs and the cover is so much glossier and vivid than the other mono copy I have had for years. (I have a stereo version on cd in the Mosaic Capitol set–one day I’ll get a stereo LP as these Capitol sides of this time sound so damned good!) This is a session that has grown on me over the years. The arrangements are neither bad nor good, for the most part they are just launching pads and cushions for Jack’s amazing trombone playing. I love his sound and his unique phrasing and the vocal quality of his trombone sound–Jack has the amazing ability to sing as he plays and play as he sings–and do both at a very high level. I just love his musical mind.
  3. A rare occasion: Lucy is listening with me. She enjoyed the Abbey Lincoln, and is now enjoying: Jim Tomlinson “Brazilian Sketches” featuring his wife Stacey Kent on a few tracks. Very mellow, just the way Lucy likes jazz.
  4. Abbey Lincoln “Wholly Earth” Gitanes/Verve cd Lots of Bobby Hutcherson!
  5. There's only 1000 copies so. That's not many worldwide. Japan is like shingles. . . it doesn't care.
  6. Ella Fitzgeraled “The Best is yet to Come” Pablo cd I’m not a big Nelson Riddle fan, but it’s ELLA!
  7. Johnathon Blake “Passages” Blue Note cd Another great session with Immanuel Wilkins and Joel Ross as sidemen. A cd in honor of Blake’s father, John.
  8. Bobby Hutcherson “Mirage” Landmark cd Great date with Bobby Hutcherson, Peter Washington and Billy Drummond. Recorded February 15 & 18, 1991
  9. I forgot how good this one is! Paul Gonsalves “Gettin’ Together” OJC cd
  10. I love the Waller release! I have the Ellington as well.
  11. I'm not peronally doubting this is legit. This is a Tower Records Japan SACD exclusive release--cdjapan is acting as a "proxy" here. Tower Records Japan have released limited edition SACDs of ECM and Impulse material that I am aware of, and possibly others, legit licensed releases. This seems like a similar release. https://tower.jp/item/6160059/コンプリート・ライヴ・アット・ザ・プラグド・ニッケル1965<タワーレコード限定-完全限定盤>
  12. A very interesting recording. Followed by Jure Pukl & Matija Dedic “Hybrid” cd. With Matthew Brewer, Jonathon Blake and Melissa Aldana
  13. Chick Corea “Return to Forever” ECM Japan SHM-SACD Just felt like that Fender Rhodes sound and Flora this morning.
  14. Furio Romano Quintet plus Tom Harrell "inside Out" cd I'm having fun revisiting some Tom Harrell performances.
  15. Some beautiful music here. Duke Ellington “1950-1951” Chronogical Classics cd
  16. Now another album of Jobim songs by Camila Benson. She seems a good guitarist as well as a nice laid-back singer. She shares the arrangements here with Ryo Kawasaki. Camila "Wave--from the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim" I never tire of Jobim's music. My father loved it too. . . I have memories of the two of us sitting together many times letting his music wash over us. There's so much beauty and a sort of pleasant sadness in the music.
  17. Matthew Stephens “Woodwork” This is my first album of Stephens’ as a leader. Nice!
  18. 600×600 60.7 KB Jure Pukl “Doubtless” A husband and wife two tenor lead, bass and drums quartet. Rather “harmelodic” to my ears at least so far in.
  19. James Francies “Flight” Blue Note cd I was trying this one again. It seems very prog rock to me, and the production is very different from most jazz albums. I was starting to “get it” when my wife informed my my listening session was over and it was time to make dinner. I’ll get back to it soon.
  20. Chet Baker Trio “Live in Paris” Elementary Music cd, disc 2 This is one of my favorite Elementary Music releases. Chet is mellow and focused and the sound is very “you are there”. . . .
  21. Ha, my wife has an AOL account still as well.
  22. “Chick Corea + Origin – A Week at the Blue Note” disc 5 Among my favorite Chick Corea releases. Great band, well-arranged.
  23. Bud Freeman “All Star Swing Sessions” Prestige/Swingsville OJC cd Three sessions, one each from 1960, 1963 and 1935. The first with Harold “Shorty” Baker is very good. Freeman’s “Bechet-like” vibrato is wonderfully captured.
  24. Farad Level 2 silver .5 M power cable for Super3 LPS $70 GX16-4 to GX16-4 connectors has sold. Still available WireWorld Chroma 7 Coaxial digital cable 2M (new in bag) $15 each 1 available Monster M1000 DCX-4 M digital coaxial cable 1 M $20 Realistic (brand-not Radio Shack Tandy) Cable 1 M interconnect pair XLR to RCA $60
  25. Shabaka and the Ancestors “We are Sent Here by History” Impulse cd I love Shabaka and the Ancestors. Their previous disc sent me searching out more Shabaka and though I believe he is an excellent player, none of his other “groups” or appearances has really moved me like the two discs by the Ancestors. I hope there will be more.
