  1. The Texas Rangers "Off Duty Drinkin' Songs" including the big hit "Drop it Now."
  2. It's really good. I love his singing here, and his trombone solos are strong. I truly love Jack's work as a sideman in the 'twenties through the 'forties. I like the Big Band material but don't listen to it often, but the Verve and Roulette at the end of his life are really wonderful.
  3. Jack Teagarden “Mis’ry and the Blues” Verve cd World weary near the end of his life performance from Jackson. . . . I love the work Mr. T did early and late and it’s too bad we lost him when we did–we could have had a few more decades perhaps. This cd sounds best with “Phase” inverted to me.
  4. John Hicks “John Hicks” Evidence cd With Bobby Hutcherson, Walter Booker, and Olympia Hicks
  5. The Complete Louis Armstrong Columbia and RCA Victor Studio Sessions 1946-1966 Disc 7, “The Real Ambassadors” “The Real Ambassadors” gets short shrift but it’s an interesting album.

  18. Well, Jerry really gets into those scales he runs on "El Paso," and Phil does some wild stuff--I was listening to one last week where he was creating some new style of western funk.
  19. And "El Paso." Some of those got very interesting.
