  2. That's a good one too. But "Renaissance" has Jim Hall and Jimmy Rowles. . . I love both of those guys and having Jim and Jimmy is a bit plus. . . .

  5. A cd of Lars Gullin material I did not know had ever been released, came in the mail from discogs.com yesterday, and there are two more I was surprised to see coming soon from discogs.com I love Lars Gullin! 6. Ben Webster “At the Renaissance” Contemporary Records/OJC cd I pulled a few Ben Webster cds from the shelf, just wanted to hear that special sound he had. Bass – Red Mitchell Drums – Frank Butler Guitar – Jim Hall Piano – Jimmy Rowles Tenor Saxophone – Ben Webster
  7. This just came in from amazon. It completes my collection of all 25 of the AudioWave XRCD24 Blue Note titles. Now I can work on finishing off my Japanese RVG editions of Blue Note titles. Only need about 40. . . but it may take the rest of my life–a lot of these are expensive. Freddie Hubbard “Open Sesame” Blue Note/Audio Wave XRCD24
  8. Something rather different. “Helen Merrill Sings Jerome Kern”
  9. Re-listening to this remixed cd, a very different mix than the original. I can like them both and I do, but boy is this mix different. Bob Weir “Ace” 50th Anniversary reissue, disc 1 750×750 166 KB
  10. I need the boost that comes from Slim Gaillard’s competent silliness. A bonafide master musician . . .and natural entertainer. I never tire of his music. “Slim Gaillard Rides Again” Dot/Verve cd
  11. Perhaps an appropriately named June Christy album. (I’m actually listening to this on cd, the second half of the two-LPs-on-one-cd that is the Capitol cd “The Song is June.”) June Christy “Offbeat” 600×600 95.8 KB Followed by Count Basie “The Golden Years” disc 2 (of 4) Pablo box set 599×512 99.5 KB I used to think later Basie was somewhat inferior. Silly man. I could not have been more wrong, as I have been discovering this decade.
  12. They could have done the Moodsvilles too. Ah well. Record companies. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.
  13. That was an issue on the Black & White set as well and I thought I read them indicating they had fixed that potential problem. Guess not. As far as I can tell reading on several boards no one got charged twice for a set or got two sets when re-submitting with credit card info. I have avoided that by paying with PayPal each time. I was assured that last time that if I paid with PayPal I did not need to re-submit. However I honestly think, considering the delay I've experienced in my sets shipping when others who have ordered much later than me have received their sets before I get a shipping notice, that it's possible that they get to the PayPal sets later. . . why not?--they have the money.
  14. I suspect we'll start seeing "about to ship" notices over the next two weeks, bit by bit. That was how it was with the last two sets. I ordered this set the first day it was offered for pre-order, as I have done the last half a dozen. None-the-less it took a week or two after persons started mentioning shipment notices for me to get one.
  15. I'm a heretic as well then Joe; I think his strongest suit is the singing of ballads. He's a master. I also love it when he duets with another amazing singer, such as his duets with Sarah Vaughan. He rises to the challenge.
  16. Definitely a good point about the playing time, but this set should sound great as the ones that they released before have. I pre-ordered my set November 19 last year.
  17. I am certainly glad that I was promoted twice from the Collaborator status I earned in early November. I was living in fear of being captured and facing a firing squad for 2 months!
  18. Playing this one again. When I first switched over from a Simmons drum kit to a Sonor kit in the last band I was in I played and tried to practice to “God Bless the Child” on cassette over and over. . . taught me a little somethin’ somethin’. . . .
  19. Think of "Verve" as "Verve Music Group" and it becomes more clear--Verve Music Group was a collective of a number of labels. I'm not fully knowledgable of all the ins and outs but this century there were further sales and mergers etc. among labels and Verve and Impulse are now under Universal (I think they were previously as well). The big corporations that control so many musical holdings make for some strange bedfellows such as the Verve label and the Impulse label, far from the weirdest after all. . . .
  20. One of my favorite rock albums of fifty years ago has been given a RADICAL remix. Sounds great, but it’s almost a different album, which is also not a bad thing! There’s a contemporary live redo of the album by Bob and new bandmates on disc 2 that I have not gotten to yet. Bob Weir “Ace” 50th Anniversary 2 cd set, disc 1.
  21. Count Basie and Zoot Sims “Basie & Sims” Pablo cd with John Heard and Louis Bellson
  22. A group of Ellingtonians with one German ringer recorded in Munich in 1959. The C-Jam All Stars “Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue” RCA cd 599×594 130 KB Bass – Jimmy Woode Drums – Sam Woodyard Piano – Carlos Diernhammer Tenor Saxophone – Paul Gonsalves Trumpet – Clark Terry
