An old friend of mine had a similar issue with one foot in the mid-eighties after a motorcycle accident. He was so bummed as he thought he had perfected a manly strut that served him well (yeah, he was like that) and had finally gotten used to the condition when. . . the nerves grew back seemingly and he returned to normal (mobility-wise at least).

One of my barrack mates in boarding school in M'Babane had a few Spooky Tooth albums which were contemporary then. I remember liking them well enough, though I was more into Cream, Hendrix, Mayall and other artists then. I don't remember hearing them since.

Not in the same way you seem to. I have re-read books I read as a young person and remembered why I loved to escape into their universes, and realized they are cruder entertainment now than they were then--but I still enjoy the re-reading and still enjoy re-reading some. . .authors such as Burroughs, Stout, Moorcock, Collins, A.A. Fair, et al.

There are authors whose work I have re-read over the decades and gotten more out of them each time as my life experience has increased. For example Philip K. Dick, Henry Miller, Raymond Chandler, Cordwainer Smith.

I love the "Big Band and Quartet" material, and there is more recorded on the European tour that is excellent listening.

Miles Davis “Nefertiti” Mobile Fidelity SACD Followed by Disc 6 of “The Duke Ellington Centennial Edition: The Complete RCA Victor Recordings (1927-1973)” This is some amazing music. . . of its time but still exciting and involving.

Gosh. . . my hearing still measures well according to my checkups and I can still hear differences. My wallet wishes I couldn't. . . but my system shows me improvements and I still seek them out. Part of the fun. . . for me.

Monk was amazing. And strange. His earliest recordings show him as a sort of Teddy Wilson/Art Tatum player, or at least far more so than later. Then it seems to me that he had a sort of Ellingtonian phase and that he edited his playing down to essentials and beyond . . . until finally he was edited down to silence! He was able to create captivating ear worms that become major melody components. You can listen to him all your life without fatigue.

I got a few dozen, knowing I’m not the target audience for this music but figuring it was a good way to experiment with some challenging listening. Lou Donaldson “Lou Takes Off” Blue Note/Audio Wave XRCD24 800×719 63 KB This is a burning bebop session that really comes off well when already into the hard bop reality. I bet the bassist and drummer were TIRED after this.
