  1. Re-visiting this recent release from Japan. Kenny Burrell “Round About Midnight at the Cafe Bohemia” Blue Note Japan 2 SACD release, disc 1
  2. I thought the Waldron sounded okay, it was the Evans I was referring to as persons not liking the sound. The first set has distortion that is unpleasant to hear. The second set sounds better.
  3. I have all the releases so far except the Collier. Looks promising for the future!
  4. A warmer morning! Should be a beautiful day. We’re due for another! Starting off with “Motion II” by Out of/Into which is a great “supergroup” of jazzers now on the scene. I’ve been neglecting “In A Silent Way”–it’s been too long since I’ve spun this one. I’m listening to the Mobile Fidelity Lab SACD.
  5. I like it. But it is not essential Ella.
  6. My best friend asked me for advice on which edition of a Wailers album to pick up and we both realized we haven’t listened to reggae in some time. I’m going to attempt to make up for that . . .starting off with this re-imagining of the great Bob Marley’s music. “Dreams Of Freedom (Ambient Translations Of Bob Marley In Dub)”
  7. “We Dig Dixieland Jazz” Savoy/Denon cd Two Condon-led Chicago Style sessions, giving me the lift I want right now.
  8. Ella Fitzgerald, “Live in East Germany 1967” The Lost Recordings UHQCD x 2, disc 2.
  9. Another cold morning! Benny Goodman “Different Version Vols 1 & 2 – 40 Alternate Takes Of Recordings 1939 to 1940” Phontastic 2 cd set, disc 2 Excellent mastering on this set. Goodman was really a force at this time, and his arrangers were writing interesting tableaux for his playing.
  10. Dug out this Mosaic LP set. I have most of it on Blue Note cds (which I confess I haven’t played in quite some time) and on the Masters of Jazz Media 7 Bechet discs (I have all of those) . . .but these LPs sound really good and are in mint shape. Bechet was such an individual and quite an influential artist, being a model and inspiration for Duke Ellington among others, and mentor for a very young Johnny Hodges. Alfred Lion did his fledgling label a good deed by capturing Bechet at this time. Listening to LP 1
  11. Gabrielle Cavassa "Diavola" Blue Note cd Released yesterday, her debut as a leader on Blue Note. I enjoyed her work on the Joshua Redman cd and the Adonis Rose Trio cd, so I pre-ordered this one. Good players supporting her: Jeff Parker on guitar, Larry Grenadier on bass, Brian Blade on drums, Paul Cornish on piano, and Joshua Redman on tenor saxophone.
  12. Miles Davis “Milestones” Sony 2 SACD set. In 7" packaging. Stereo version SACD.
  13. Even colder this morning than last! Better than too hot for me at least. Started off with the SHM-SACD of John Coltrane “Live at the Village Vanguard.” Great sound! Timeless music. 500×491 35.7 KB On to a new arrival, the Elemental Records cd of Bill Evans “At the BBC.” Great performances from Bill with Chuck Israels and Larry Bunker. The sound . . . this one is one of the worst sounding of the RSD Evans releases. Distortion is the worst sin, the original recordings seem deficient.
  14. On my system SACDs sound really really good and generally an improvement, so the SACDs have been and will be welcome for me. I also really like the 7" Sony packaged releases.
  15. Grateful Dead “Postcards Of The Hanging - Grateful Dead Perform The Songs Of Bob Dylan” 2 cd set, disc 1
  16. Boy it’s no fun walking the dog in rain when it’s 45! A short one by mutual agreement. I’m playing some of my very favorite Dexter Gordon. I’ve bought this music on LP and cd before and this is the best mastering I’ve heard, these Muzak Records reissues from Japan sound fantastic. Dexter Gordon “The Montmartre Collection” Black Lion/Muzak Japan 2 cd set, disc 1 (Not an exact image, couldn’t find one for the Muzak 2 cd collection).
  17. Cold morning again. Soon I’ll wish they were! Starting off with the third disc from the new Resonance Records 3 cd set from Yusef Lateef, “Alight Upon the Lake: Live at the Jazz Showcase.” I really like this release.
  18. Two new Miles Davis SACD reissues in 7" packaging to be releaed May 27 from Japan: SICJ-10022 Miles Davis / At Newport 1958 Expanded Edition [Limited Release] [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Released: May 27, 2026 SICJ-10023 Miles Davis / Kind Of Blue (STEREO/MONO) [Limited Release] [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Released: May 27, 2026
  19. Grateful Dead “Terrapin Station” 2004 cd Listening to the bonus tracks on this cd, which I have not listened to in a long time!
  20. There are some Quintet and Sextet sides here with Jimmy Rowles at the piano that are very cool, this disc is Capitol records material. Probably among the earliest Jimmy on record. Benny Goodman "1947" Chronogical Classics cd
  21. Eddie Condon “Jazz As it Should be Played” Jazzology cd Some well-lubricated jazz featuring George Brunis, Wild Bill Davidson and Don Ewell.
  22. Cold, soggy morning again. Up early due to an appointment, starting off with a nice Randy Weston trio session. Randy Weston “Get Happy” Riverside/OJC cd
  23. Kenny Dorham “The Complete 'Round About Midnight At The Cafe Bohemia” 2 SACD set from Blue Note Japan SACD 2 Excellent sounding reissue.
  24. One of the two Ruth Price cds I own, this one with Shelly Manne and his Men, “At the Manne Hole” on Contemporary/OJC cd 300×300 9.12 KB Bass – Chuck Berghofer Drums – Shelly Manne Piano – Russ Freeman Tenor Saxophone – Richie Kamuca Trumpet – Conte Candoli Vocals – Ruth Price Recorded in “live” performance at Shelly Manne’s famous jazz club in Hollywood (The Manne Hole), March 3-5, 1961 She’s a good singer, and it’s great to have Kamuca here.
  25. $#@! Another fine man to be missed.
