  1. Playing music to a newborn. I'm not sure it makes a difference. I sure don't remember the music I heard as a toddler, let alone a newborn. Play what you would like to hear. . . your newborn will hear it, whatever it is. And I think that will be that.
  2. Oh I know he was not impressed. But he did put Jerry to work on an album. He sensed right that Jerry was an asset.
  3. I can certainly see how that might be seen as disorganization. One of the older jazz musicians might say the same thing about a period of Ornette's career too. Disorganization can create some great music. Mine arrived yesterday, but I haven't yet been able to open the box. My Dad had an urgent request from me, and then my wife was bitten on the hand by a neighbor's dog. Not a good weekend! Next week I hope is better.
  4. I'm looking for a cd, Erroll Garner "1944" which is #802 in the Chronological Classics series from France. I am willing to pay $30.00 including postage for a complete copy in Excellent or better condition. If you can provide one, please contact me via PM or email me at lonjazz@yahoo.com. Thanks!
  5. Finished Doom Patrol, Season 2 Watched Another Life Season 1 Now watching Les Revanants Season 1
  6. I have a Sony TV about that old, paid good money for it, has had heavy use and performs perfectly, and it has great sound via the speakers, especially if you use the EQ to tweak the sound. I bet you could get a cheap headphone amp that would be fed from the RCA analog outputs from the TV. Could be a good upgrade in sound or possibly expand listening time.
  7. I really like listening to Tim Lerch.
  8. Oh boy. Audiophiles be all like so into Ornette soon.
  9. I no longer have that single disc--I thinned the herd of Verve cds when I got the Complete box set. Yes, Philly and Bill had a certain communication between them. I really have come to like Bill with all the different drummers and bassists. In one sense they didn't matter--Bill was his own man in his trio. But in another sense I feel they each shaped the music in (often subtle) ways.
  10. Dave Brubeck Quartet "Live At The Kurhaus 1967" Lost Sessions cd Really nice stereo sound and an entertaining performance.
  11. Walter Davis Jr.'s 4th Cycle "Keeper of my Soul" Black Jazz/Real Gone Music cd. They really have hit the nail on the head with mastering in this series. These are reputed to all be needle-drops. . .and they don't sound like that at all.
  12. Interesting . . . that has never happened when I add to an order--that upcharge. Sometimes shipping changes if it goes into the next packaging or weight limit, though usually not, but the pricing hasn't changed.
  13. That's the first I heard PKD worked in a second hand jazz record store. Maybe it's true, maybe not.
  14. I'm reasonably certain Laton is talking about the live Vanguard material recorded for Verve. It was released separately on cd and was collected into the Complete Verve Recordings box set. I have the latter--the sound is excellent. I imagine the standalone cd also has very good sound quality.
  15. I agree and actually enjoy the sound on the Monk material. The latest two disc collection sounds really good, and I really like the Japanese RVG editions I have perhaps even a bit more. Full, warm and present recordings.
  16. I went to visit my Dad today. On the way I listened to these three: Rhiannon Giddnes "Factory Girl" EP cd Vinicius Cantuaria "Canta Antonio Carlos Jobim" Clarke Boland Big Band "All Smiles" Now home I am spinning the amazing Fabiano Do Nascimento "Preludio"--this is wonderful music.
  17. Barney Wilen "La Note Bleue" 2 cd set, disc 1 (the original album) I just love Barney Wilen's sound on any saxophone. He brings out the beauty of the instrument and his playing seems to combine the fleet foot of Lester Young with the thematic surety of Sonny Rollins. I have bought everything I can of his work.
  18. This one again. . . disc 3. . . nice trad jazz material I wanted to hear again. "Svensk Jazzhistoria Vol. 10 - Swedish Jazz 1965 - 1969 - Watch Out!"
  19. Elsewhere this album was mentioned (often unfavorably) in discussion of the new Bootleg Series release. Prompted me to want to hear it! This Blu-Spec CD2 edition sounds wonderful. I've always liked this release. In large part I just love the work of this band and the way it is arranged and recorded. This swings. I like many of the songs. . . and basically the "attitude." Bob Dylan "Modern Times" Sony Blu-Spec CD2
  20. I was attempting an experiment yesterday and limiting my laptop usage and didn't chronicle my listening on the forums I haunt. I didn't fall apart or suffer from too many withdrawl symptoms luckily. I listened yesterday to Charlie Parker Savoy sides via Denon 24 bit LP facsimile cds, Stanley Turrentine's "Easy Rider" on Blue Note SHM-CD, and two Mainstream Roy Haynes dates on Solid Records cds from Japan, "Senya" and "Hip Ensemble." Starting today off with Anthony Braxton "Standards (2020) box set, disc 3 Followed by "Svensk Jazzhistoria Vol. 10 - Swedish Jazz 1965 - 1969 - Watch Out!" disc 2 Some great music, in great sound, on this release.
  21. Yes. Though I think "A Drum is a Woman" is a whimsical sister recording that I love.
  22. I'm sure Keepnews knew exactly how normal Monk was. I may have misstated above. I think he was trying to bring Monk out of obscurity and into a more mainstream stance with the buying public. The second album I love, one of my favorite Monk albums.
  23. Keepnews wanted to show Monk was a bit more normal and even more accessible as a way to get some sales and recognition. It was his "idea."
