"THE ANGEL'S SHARE" . . . a truckin' load of Workingman's Dead outtakes etc. available for streaming only. https://www.dead.net/features/news-general-news/angels-share-stream-never-heard-workingmans-dead-sessions Now I know many are overjoyed. . . my enthusiasm is tepid as I don't stream and won't be listening that way. Maybe they'll do a physical product of some form in the future.

That's interesting. . . this Carn and two others are available for preorder right now on amazon on both vinyl AND cd, so it appears that the information about "vinyl only" is not correct. The label is Real Gone Music.

On to the lovely Monday Michiru, "4 Seasons" disc 1
-
No, Real Gone Music.

Right now I'm listening to the SF Jazz Collective set I have that I return to the most, the "Music of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Original Compositions" . . . . This second disc is pretty spectacular. Great compositions, arrangements, obviously well-rehearsed and exquisitely performed. The sound is so good too--it whispers and roars and never becomes strident or compressed. The energy flows right out to the listener.

I've had that experience recently with Groove orders as well. It's not the store's fault, but Chicago's post office. A friend from my time at UC still in Chicago has told me it's very common, especially now, for delayed mail from there.

I've found this one, the Bishop Jr. and The Awakening offered as CDs for pre-order on amazon.

Just ordered my Dad's latest and possibly last book, which went up for ordering overnight after a long period of preparation. Looking forward to reading it! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08C4525MW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Now reading this funny book.

I liked the first of these, "Hymn to the Seventh Galaxy" .. . After Connors left, not so much. BUT it allowed him to make a name and move onto the next phase. I honestly think at that time it was anyone's guess what was really "popular" or "populist" as there were so many different flavors and forms out there. I know my listening was all over the place til the end of the 'Seventies when I started to play drums and played rock, but collected jazz and practiced jazz drumming.

What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.

The Complete Blind Willie Johnson, disc 2. This guy scares me, makes me fear for my mortal soul! And he's so good a player and singer. -
Listening to the timely (nearly sixty year old) track "Fables of Faubus" Charles Mingus "Presents Charles Mingus"

I may have not made it clear, but I bought this and it has no bonus tracks. As I said above some of the titles issued in this series have bonus tracks, this title has not.
-
First, there is so far no 2020 reissue. And I believe Jim is correct, the description that notes bonus tracks is likely for the entire series--some have included bonus tracks, this title has not.

Last week and earlier this week I explored some Stefon Harris from my collection. When these came out I listened to them and thought they were cool, then I set them aside for a while and revisiting them I'm more impressed. Great sequencing for albums, great arrangement, nice blend of jazz and latin and funkrock in varying mixes. Very good engineering and mastering as well. And Harris plays in unexpected ways. One of my very favorite Brazilian jazz discs. Just so Brazilian. . . and so jazz. And for members of the secret international organization of Maucha Adnet afficianados this is essential. And I breezed through a shelf and saw this as a followup, which is an album I have definitely overlooked of late, and one that always impresses me: Monday Michiru "Soulception" . . . Fits in perfectly after the Da Fonseca. Wow, this is one of three or four Monday cds that every time I hear it I think "This is my favorite!" It's certainly A favorite. She is really on form here.

I like them a lot as well. . .don't really have favorites, these are all very nice discs. -
Paul Desmond/Ed Bickert Mosaic - NOW AVAILABLE
jazzbo replied to bebopbob's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I think you'd like them. Desmond is Desmond, and the valve trombone is very well played as both solo and accompanist. There's more "strolling" with bass and drums from the horns than on the sessions with Bickert. The lack of a chording instrument makes the music seem a bit "harmolodic" though it's not really harmony-wise. That's my take. -
Eddie Gale "Black Rythm Happening" Blue Note Japan

Trying this one again. I like Shabaka here but overall I really don't get into the style of these. . . .which has kept me from buying their other discs. . . so far. . . . The Comet is Coming "Channeling the Spirits/Prophecy"

These Muzak/Japan reissues in 2 cd sets sound wonderful--I have this one and the Monk, Gordon, Griffin, Sims/Brookmeyer and Konitz. I'm debating whether to get the Jackie and Roy. Ben Webster "Saturday Night at the Montmartre"

Paul Desmond/Ed Bickert Mosaic - NOW AVAILABLE
jazzbo replied to bebopbob's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
As a person fascinated with guitars it has amazed me what a unique jazz sound Bickert has gotten out of a Fender Telecaster with (at this time I believe) single-coil pickups. I like his sound. I'm not a Frisell fan really. The same material sounds a lot better to my ears on my system than the Verve cd. Fuller and vivid sound. -
