  1. Stalkers. I'd watch and listen (that voice!) to Maggie Q in almost anything. This is probably the best show she's been in. I know that's not saying much!
  2. Hey, glad you posted in. Welcome and help us keep the conversations going.
  3. The Iverson quote from the blog entry above that stuck with me: I'm blogging about it mainly because I have heard so many musicians and fans react in horror. I'm afraid to tell all these folks this, but it's true: You have already had a sincere and strong reaction to the conceptual art, so therefore you have already validated the work.
  4. Listening to this right now. Fascinating. It's very different, while being quite the same. An experience slightly different than I anticipated.
  5. Yes. Watched the latest Fast 'n Loud and the new companion piece Misfit Garage. Nice to see Tom the loon again.
  6. Bill Hader hosting SNL, wth Wiig also on board.Good episode.

I personally doubt that the book will attempt to explain "Yay Heavy and a Bottle of Bread" or other songs in the manner you fear.
  8. This is intriguing to me both as a musician (I'm not much of one but I am one) and a person interested in making recordings (I've done a few as well as entertained an interest in the science/art of recording a long time.) To me this is not like copying a painting or a drawing or a sculpture, but it may seem that way to an artist. I'm interested to hear if the feeling the music invokes in me has a similarity. I"m also interested in whether the recording captrues a similar ambiance and whether the recording itself is similar or considerably different.
  9. That's interesting, I've never read that novel. But I've had an interest in Egyptology since I was 8 so when I see Ptah. . . it's not a catcher I think of!
  10. HP, if I recall correctly "Lord" would be an appopriate title to address Ptah with. I don't quite seem to understand all the disdain for this release either. I'm actually looking forward to hearing it. The concept interests me. And I'm interested in the recording itself.
  11. Notes were nice enough. And there are photos I've never seen before.
  12. Who wrote the notes to the Miles set? I assume the page below is correct, if so Kirk Silsbee. http://www.allmusic.com/album/take-off-the-complete-blue-note-albums-mw0002642751/credits
  13. Can't tell you at the moment, I'm far away from my discs and won't likely remember to look when I'm back home right before bed.
  14. Right, and I'm only guessing but the transfers are mastered to cd by Kevin Reeves (he did the previous ones) and sound very good, a different look at the new transfers.
  15. I think it's MIlt stuff. I did pre-order this. I love this Monk material so much. And the new Miles set I bought sounds great (and has nice packaging and notes).
  16. The Good Wife. Another good one.
  17. It is available in CD format at Squidco, so I assume you can (or will soon be able to) get it from other retailers as well. Per the lede of the article linked to in #1, it's "due out on Tuesday." My order from Squidco was mailed today.
  18. You'll note that Lord Ptah said "NOT just a prank." Word
  19. I guess I'm bothering for two reasons: to see how this copy comes off as a technical project and as an artistic statement. And with my stereo system, which I enjoy listening to immensely, it will be fun to compare the recordings themselves--will the ambience be similar/identical, will there discernable differences because of recording equipment, etc.
  20. Thanks sm. I ordered it from Squidco.
  21. Very interesting. I'm interested, but it seems it's only available as a digital MP3 file, and I don't do those. . . . If a cd appears I'll try it.
  22. Thanks for digging that up Jim! Maybe that lp will be released on cd one day soon. (One can hope, any new Jobim on cd would be welcome here!)
  23. I love this song, though there are other Jobim versions I prefer. The one with Elis is excellent! This does not sound like a Jobim arrangement, but hey it might be. Jim R will probably weigh in with great information!
