  1. Always great to read enthusiasm for Duke, an enthusiasm I share. I really enjoy his music, and over the years I've come to really appreciate his scope and stance as an artist and artistic human being. He was an imp, loved life and could appear shallow and deeply complex. I never appreciated his music enough to travel and see him perform when alive. I have seen the orchestra led by his grandson, which was a great thrill to be honest. The music was sincerely and swingingly presented. And one month in the early 'Seventies I did see Count Basie and Led Zeppelin in the same month! The Basie concert was in a church and very moving, and left a musical impression with me and had an impact on my musical life even though I spent much time watching my future wife on the other side of the aisle, on a date with another.

    Ted Nash

I like what I've heard of Nash and should investigate more. Thanks for the nudge.
  4. Finished this. Wow. I can see why Max Allan Collins was so inspired by these Parker novels by Stark/Westlake. Masterfully done, so hard-boiled it's stone. Now, starting Joe's novel http://jadedibisproductions.com/joe-milazzo/
  5. I don't have the Rollins, but all the others are very good releases. You'll enjoy them.
  6. Got in Unity and Super Nova. Will try to listen tomorrow!
  7. I haven't ordered the Plugged Nickel so haven't heard it. I'm covered with those dates including the US two lp set, three Japanese css, the Complete Album Collection, the US and Japanese box sets. I got in the Duke Ellington at the Plaza today. . .all new 2014 DSD mastering.
  8. The Tapscott is of course another great reissue, great music, great sound, great packaging. Kudos!
  9. b, I'm sure you would enjoy the early recordings. As big shot says, the later are also great, I agree, both sets are great listens.
  10. Cool. Hope you enjoy them. I'm a tube guy myself, can't imagine buying solid state ever again, but Emotiva has a good reputation.
  11. Got mine, a beautiful release. Haven't spun it yet, but will soon.
  12. Both have just been reissued and the sound is excellent. It was good music to clean the town house to. I like the big fat sound as a change from the smaller Santana group sound, sort of hit me as a Tower of Power vibe to in spots. I'll pop in the second soon and revisit the first, it's stuff that will stand up in the rotation. I'm rotating a lot of stuff lately, I don't have much time at all for critical listening and I'm trying to get as much listening in as possible.
  13. Listened to "Azteca" today for the first time in decades thanks to this thread!
  14. I don't know whether that solo is dubbed or not, I never heard that rumor and I've never thought that it might have been. The thing that gets me about this one is the variety, you have ballads and burners, comfortable listens and challenging ones. Just another album for Miles, yeah right.
  15. I have I think one title on the way and about six that I'm also waiting for in a November shipment.
  16. Should be fine. If you sense any mismatch, you could fashion an identical speaker wire jumper for all the connections in place of the original. (I'm too fussy, this is what I would do). If something like this would work it's very easy to find sets on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canare-4S11-11-AWG-Bi-Wire-Speaker-Jumper-Cable-Banana-to-Banana-Plugs-/151002125652?pt=US_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item23286d9554 Banana to banana, spade to spade, spade to banana, etc.
  17. Got this set in yesterday and sat in the dark and listened to the first symphony early this morning. The SACD Sound is quite good, an interesting recording.
  18. I don't believe anyone here has specific knowledge. Previous discussion at the end of this thread:
  19. I thought I heard subtle differences between European and Japanese copies I have of Coltrane titles. Could have been fooling myself but overall I like the sound of this series a lot. I suppose they are "trebly" but I have an excellent treble control on my amp that shunts to ground outside the signal path, and I can control the tweeter output via resistors and I generally have my system with well-controled high frequencies as a general practice; I am very sensitive to treble grain and grit, probably one reason I don't use headphones. So I guess one can buy either the European or Japanese versions, or not buy any of them at all, as one sees fit! I've bought dozens. Probably a dozen dozens.
  20. Aqua Velva Musk.
  21. I do. I was told I "smelled like poo poo" there. That's when I switched from eau de toilette to after shave.
  22. Welcome!
  23. I don't do youtube and I'm not into a lot of comparisons. I like Perahia, you don't, that's fine with me. I'm still going to like him, and don't care if YOU think he's inept. We're both just a couple of guys on the internet. Watching the DVDs of performance, rehearsal and discussion in this box set added to my appreciation of Perahia. Listening this week to the Julian Bream box, that wasn't exceptionally cheap but it sure is a box I'm enjoying listening to and at the price I paid I'm considering it a bargain. Listening I came to the conclusion that Steve Howe of Yes probably listened to a lot of Bream as well (haven't researched that any).
  24. Your opinion is yours Moms. I happen to like the Perahia a lot, I have all the Sony stuff, I like his work a lot. And I have the Bernstein Mahler so I can make comparisons if I want to when I get this set. Or not.
