Hope it is/was a great one!

The first US cd was that awful stereo with Monk in one channel, the band in the other. Then Rhino reissued it in mono and that cd sounds very good. I agree that the new Japanese Warner cd sounds best of all.

Many happy happy returns!

Well, that's not to say it may not appear in a future batch. It's not a quartet album with Clark so its omission fits in that sense.
-
Don't believe so. Nor under its other title, "Standards."
-
Yes, as I mentioned above, that's how it is. I snagged: Blue John Memphis to New York Spirit Boogaloo Matador Oleo First Session Have only listened to three total so far. Busy life. Still waiting for Gooden's Corner Born to be Blue Far Away Lands

Watching last night's "Black Box" now. My biggest beef with the show is that they use extreme poetic license with the way withdrawing from psychiatric drugs and initiating psychiatric drugs are portrayed. At the very least they shorten the time frame drastically. Bothers me, gets me out of the story. Interesting personal history with this show for me. It premiered and watching Kelly Reilly made me think once again of an old friend here in Ohio from when I lived here before over 33 years agno, whom I had located and started a bit of email communication with. I had recently arranged finally to have two evenings off a week, and after watching the premier I made another attempt to meet with this old friend. We did meet, the very next Thursday, and in fact two nights later we watched the second show together on my DVR. We have spent each of my nights off together since that first Thursday night. And as many other hours as we can squeeze in of my very limited free time. "Black Box" accelerated my making another effort to get in touch with her, and believe me, I'm so glad I did.

That's not true. Of the seven I've received Oblique is the only anamoly. It includes what I think are the RVG liner notes.
-
Oblique has the original Japanese cover on the front of the booklet, the RVG cover on the back of the booklet.
-
Well, yes, but. . . to me it's 90 percent "House." Entertaining at times. I'm watching episodes of "Long Island Medium."
-
The SHM-CD versions of these two are very nice imo. But you don't need them, really. But that doesn't seem to stop us. . . . I do it of favorites or albums that sound bad first time around. I guess my hearing warrants it, my equipment certainly seems to. But I know it's foolish really.
-
Wish I could see it. . . I'll be somewhere on the road then.
-
In case you also ordered/got Tina Brooks "Back To The Tracks", could you pls comment on the Bonus Tracks ?? I didn't order that one either, bought that one too many times! Recent XRCD is excellent.
-
You bastard! (Just kidding, I'm happy for you!)
-
I'm a big fan of this series too, don't have any bonus discs but I have all but about a dozen of the releases, those I had in other forms and didn't feel I needed to have the new ones as they aren't favorites. This is the best I've heard the Bethlehem catalog on cd, and I am really enjoying them.
-
Not for me. Oblique is my favorite Hutcherson I think. . . Albert Stinson helps to make it for me. And some excellent drumming.
-
Got in seven of the new titles from Japan this morning. Four more are in the mail (slower rate). Listening to Hutcherson's "Oblique" right now, and boy does it sound nice. Interestingly you get both the original lp cover and the new cover made for the US RVG release. Nice touch!

Recommendations, suggestions on a Complete Satie's Piano Music
jazzbo replied to porcy62's topic in Classical Discussion
I only have, and only really know, "Complete Solo Piano" by Jean-Yves Thibaudet (2003) on Decca. Sound is great. I like the performances, but don't have other performances to compare it to. -
Many many happy returns!

Okay, apparetnly this was fixed for the previous audiophile release. And apparently the fix is also on this new SHM-CD. Cool.
-
I'm not sure they are in that huge box, the record labels are different.
-
Cool. Should we start a betting pool to see if Song for my Father has that wrinkly wobble at the beginning?
-
That's not entirely true as Cape Verdean Blues has been an excellent sounding XRCD. I have it, I'm done buying that title.
