  1. Dorothy Ashby “Afro-Harping” Cadet “deluxe” cd reissue I couldn’t find my earlier copy of this so ordered this recent reissue. Wow. Great sound.
  2. I'm not sure what is up with that inclusion, maybe the booklet will explain, maybe not. Peanuts was an interesting fellow, I met him in San Antonio on the Riverwalk hanging with Jim Cullum's band, he was having fun!
  3. Okay I looked at it closely as I can while my wife is blaring the Browns game, and editorializing, and there are more unissued takes not included on this set than included. . . some of the included are spoken introductions and interesting sound check tracks. I am not sure of the entire reasoning, I have not had (and won't for a while) time to go through the booklet. Those tracks that ARE included that were previously issued appear to be alternates to issued tracks mostly if not all. So that may be the reasoning. If one performance was issued and there is an unissued alternate, they include it. Which is good. Likely the driving motivation is to keep the set to 11 cds and not more, the reason other sessions were not included as well. I won't miss the missing Waller as it is elsewhere in the collection.
  4. Well I think their logic makes sense to me. If they were never issued as a V-Disc, they are not V-Discs. They are consistent in this set in not including "unissued" items. And are you disputing their claim that the "Silvery Moon" item came from a radio broadcast? I have all the JSP volumes (as well as all the King Jazz) and don't fel I need to have these on this Mosaic set following their logic.
  5. Rampart Street Paraders “Rampart Street Paraders At Storyville – Sometime In the 60s” Jump Records CD
  6. Jack Teagarden "Think Well of Me" Verve stereo LP Was going to put this back into the LP shelves downstairs. .. but had to hear it again!
  7. Start at the beginning! Right now One of my favorite albums of the 'Seventies, still sounding pretty good though a bit worn. Grateful Dead “Wake of the Flood” Grateful Dead Records LP
  8. Disc 3. I’m really enjoying the music and the mastering on this box set. Seems that this vintage period of jazz is less appreciated than others, but I’ve long enjoyed these players and their work. Listening to Bob Crosby singing brings back memories of my Dad singing these sort of songs to we kids back when we were little. He had a very similar voice and style. Cracked us up! Wish I could hear it again. Enjoying George Wettling’s drumming on these discs. He was quite a drummer and artist!
  9. Eric Alexander "Mode for Mabes" Delmark cd ] Another cold morning! This is helping me ease into the day.
  10. “Classic V-Disc Small Group Jazz Sessions” Mosaic Records, 11 cd set, disc 2 Listening to disc 2 AGAIN. So good!
  11. Charlie Parker “Live In Sweden 1950” Dragon Records 2 cd This release purportedly has corrected speed tracks. Sure sounds good. . . I haven’t heard my previous cd of this material in a long time and it’s in storage right now.
  12. It does not suck. Sound quality could be better, Rollins is not always captured ideally.
  13. Just the original albums. Additional material is on a separate box (I have decided not to get). Right now “Classic V-Disc Small Group Jazz Sessions” Mosaic Records, 11 cd set, disc 2 600×600 66.3 KB Trumpeter led sessions by Muggsy Spanier and Wild Bill Davidson with some excellent Pee Wee Russell!
  14. I really like this album. My appreciation for Jano's participation has waned, but some great material here. Joni Mitchell "Mingus" from the box set.
  15. Well, sometimes you. can "get" a character or person and just not enjoy them. I can think of a few personal examples, I bet we all can.
  16. This is a lovely set. And the sound so far is amazingly mastered.
  17. A treasure trove of classic recordings arrived here yesterday. Man, for a jazz fan like me this is a real joy of a reissue. The first disc is a real thrill: Bunk Johnson, a reconfiguration of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Sidney Bechet and the famous "Midnight Session" with Louis Armstrong, Jack Teagarden and so many other jazz stars. Sound is fantastic! "Classic V-Disc Small Group Jazz Sessions" Mosaic Records, 11 cd set, disc 1
  18. Sonny Stitt “Constellation” Camden 2 cd set, disc 1 (reissues two Muse releases: “Blues for Duke” and “Mellow”) 500×433 18.9 KB
  19. Mine, despite no tracking movement, arrived this afternoon. Haven't opened the carton though as at the same time a pressure washer my wife wanted arrived and I have had to assemble it, show her how to use it, hold the ladder for her, etc. and am enjoying a quick break. . . . Had just enough time to open the box and see that my number is the same as the model number of what used to be my favorite type of Levi's, 501.
  20. Gil Evans “Out of the Cool” Impulse! reissue LP
  21. Right now enjoying Santana “Welcome” Columbia LP. Leon Thomas as vocalist is a PLUS.
  22. The leaves on the thousands of trees around our home have become beautiful. . . and have started to fall in droves. I dread the bare trees ahead. . . snow will make them beautiful again. Starting off with one of the discs that arrived Tuesday from Japan. Herbie Hancock “The Prisoner” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD 150×150 2.7 KB I’ve slowly begun to admire this recordings more and more as time goes by. A very good Rudy Van Gelder recording as well.
  23. Part of the State Wildlife Preserve across the street from us. I love our sylvan life.
