  1. Disc 3. I’m really enjoying the music and the mastering on this box set. Seems that this vintage period of jazz is less appreciated than others, but I’ve long enjoyed these players and their work. Listening to Bob Crosby singing brings back memories of my Dad singing these sort of songs to we kids back when we were little. He had a very similar voice and style. Cracked us up! Wish I could hear it again. Enjoying George Wettling’s drumming on these discs. He was quite a drummer and artist!
  2. Eric Alexander "Mode for Mabes" Delmark cd ] Another cold morning! This is helping me ease into the day.
  3. “Classic V-Disc Small Group Jazz Sessions” Mosaic Records, 11 cd set, disc 2 Listening to disc 2 AGAIN. So good!
  4. Charlie Parker “Live In Sweden 1950” Dragon Records 2 cd This release purportedly has corrected speed tracks. Sure sounds good. . . I haven’t heard my previous cd of this material in a long time and it’s in storage right now.
  5. It does not suck. Sound quality could be better, Rollins is not always captured ideally.
  6. Just the original albums. Additional material is on a separate box (I have decided not to get). Right now “Classic V-Disc Small Group Jazz Sessions” Mosaic Records, 11 cd set, disc 2 600×600 66.3 KB Trumpeter led sessions by Muggsy Spanier and Wild Bill Davidson with some excellent Pee Wee Russell!
  7. I really like this album. My appreciation for Jano's participation has waned, but some great material here. Joni Mitchell "Mingus" from the box set.
  8. Well, sometimes you. can "get" a character or person and just not enjoy them. I can think of a few personal examples, I bet we all can.
  9. This is a lovely set. And the sound so far is amazingly mastered.
  10. A treasure trove of classic recordings arrived here yesterday. Man, for a jazz fan like me this is a real joy of a reissue. The first disc is a real thrill: Bunk Johnson, a reconfiguration of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Sidney Bechet and the famous "Midnight Session" with Louis Armstrong, Jack Teagarden and so many other jazz stars. Sound is fantastic! "Classic V-Disc Small Group Jazz Sessions" Mosaic Records, 11 cd set, disc 1
  11. Sonny Stitt “Constellation” Camden 2 cd set, disc 1 (reissues two Muse releases: “Blues for Duke” and “Mellow”) 500×433 18.9 KB
  12. Mine, despite no tracking movement, arrived this afternoon. Haven't opened the carton though as at the same time a pressure washer my wife wanted arrived and I have had to assemble it, show her how to use it, hold the ladder for her, etc. and am enjoying a quick break. . . . Had just enough time to open the box and see that my number is the same as the model number of what used to be my favorite type of Levi's, 501.
  13. Gil Evans “Out of the Cool” Impulse! reissue LP
  14. Right now enjoying Santana “Welcome” Columbia LP. Leon Thomas as vocalist is a PLUS.
  15. The leaves on the thousands of trees around our home have become beautiful. . . and have started to fall in droves. I dread the bare trees ahead. . . snow will make them beautiful again. Starting off with one of the discs that arrived Tuesday from Japan. Herbie Hancock “The Prisoner” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD 150×150 2.7 KB I’ve slowly begun to admire this recordings more and more as time goes by. A very good Rudy Van Gelder recording as well.
  16. Part of the State Wildlife Preserve across the street from us. I love our sylvan life.
  17. Our driveway
  18. Perhaps. I know there has been in my case in the past. I had to notify them I paid via PayPal once and they had to poke around til they found my order, two weeks or more after the shipping had begun. It's all good. It's just exciting to anticipate a shipping notice. The anticipation is tempered now in that they seem to announce a set, very soon after shipping begins. There have been times we waited considerably longer before shipping after a set was announced.
  19. I checked my order every day and it just showed "Processing." So I inquired via email with Fred today and he told me it has been shipped and is due to arrive Saturday. And I checked this morning and the order is "Completed" with a tracking number that was assigned yesterday. So mine is on the way. . . . Looking forward to it.
  20. [IMG]500×496 36.4 KB “Eddie Condon’s Town Hall Concert, New York, March 11, 1944 Volume 12” Jazzology cd

  22. Grateful Dead "Friend of the Devils: April 1978" box set, the nineteenth and final disc. Making my way through a long "Drums". . . .
  23. Got in a box with the batch of 20 Blue Note 85th Anniversary UHQCDs that are released tomorrow. Listening to Lee Morgan "Search for the New Land" . . . .
  24. Re: Mental Strain at Dawn: I do things the old fashione way, obtain and listen to discs. This is out there. Recommended! I notice it is also available on amazon music. That is the new Immanuel Wilkins on Blue Note, "Blues Blood."
