  1. I really like Hank Mobley and have most all his recordings. I seem to connect with him the way that I connect with Lester Young. And I feel there is a similarity between these two artists. I can go without listening to both for quite some time, and then start a binge. I've always liked the Blackhawk recordings. In fact, one of the lps was my first non-electric Miles Davis purchases way back when. Wynton, Paul and Jimmy really caught my ear, and their authoritative and yet breezy sense of swing pulled me into the music. That swing helped me to understand the music Miles and Hank were putting out. I remember fondly many hours with that wonderful cover nearby and the music playing. . . .
  2. My condolences to all of Mia's family.
  3. On to Season 4. Much better than Alcatraz.
  4. Hope it was a great one! Many happy returns!
  5. I like it myself. The mono sound is decent, definitely above bootleg quality. The performances are very good.
  6. I really really wanted to like Alcatraz. . . it's okay and my two tv pals (we get together once or twice a week to watch some shows) and I will probably watch a while. I was disappointed though, not very "gripping" and not as entertaining as I'd hoped.
  7. Hi Ken. Yeah, all that info is covered in this thread. I'm looking forward to a live box.
  8. Watching the third season of LOST. As Shawn has said, once you know about The Man In Black there's a whole 'nother dimension of things to the viewing. Love this show. Man it looks great on Blu-ray.
  9. I'm continuing to skip it because I just don't enjoy sports beyond a personal participation level, commercial sports just makes me nuts, always has ever since I returned from Swaziland in '71.
  10. You don't save anything really by waiting. I've pre-ordered all of mine via amazon.fr and gotten them quickly and well-priced. It will be interesting to hear your reactions to the sound. When I've compared the earlier cd to the remastered, I've been greatly impressed with the sound of the remastering in these sets.
  11. Thanks for the links Flurin.
  12. The internet is an amazing thing. Found this advertisement for the bookstore where I bought my first PKD novel, The Zap Gun, from the year I bought the book, 1967.
  13. Re-reading one of my Dad's books.
  14. I've used a #2 cone filter to make mugs of coffee for over 22 years. I started on this method when I got together with my late wife who was not a coffee drinker, so it was either make a pot and see a lot go to waste or make these individual mugs. I remembered my Gradma, Hazel Armstrong, used this method at home, she lived alone for about 25 years after my Grandpa William died, and I spent a few summers working on the old (built in the mid-nineteenth century) house and always remembered how good the coffee tasted made this way. I prefer this method to any other now. Nothing quite does it for me the way a mug of my Ruta Maya medium roast does made with my cone filter.
  15. Of the three you mention, the Russell I find most intriguing. The sound on these sets is excellent. When I've comared discs within to discs I've had before, the new ones show real improvement. What sound problems - must have missed this Can you give any specifics - what discs etc Details here:
  16. Actually, it's a cover credited to Dave Cockrum, originally appearing here: Though it sure is from the Kane John Carter template!
  17. RIP Ernie . . . .
  18. One of my favorites too. I like Herb as well. This thread inspired me to pull out this.
  19. Ted, HRA is an abbreviation for "Human Resources Administration" and is a part of the NY Department of Social Services: http://www.nyc.gov/html/hra/html/home/home.shtml Joel, I'm so very sorry that this has happened. I hope you can get the assistance and justice you seek.
  20. Good to see you posting again my friend!
  21. Have a great day and many happy returns!
  22. I guess I haven't mellowed yet. Really don't enjoy PC music, iPod music, etc. I've become CD or better listener, or I'll just listen to the music in my head. Last job I had I couldn't listen to any music and it was fine with me, so figure if I have a next job that I can listen I'll just pass or have a cd based system. Sure have a lot of those.
  23. I suspect you'll receive the set in the next day or so. I have more often not received a shipping notice than received one, usually the set hits my door in seven to nine days after order. That's not that bad in my estimation, I can be that patient.
