  1. All are sold! Thanks.
  2. I haven't ever used his services, but he's a legend among the jazz bulletin boards. I wish him well.
  3. The final season (ten) of Smallville. I like this show, it's the tv show most like a comic book I've ever seen. Fun stuff, not a show to take seriously. I'm not a fan of the eaerly seasons; about five or six this one took off.
  4. I've been through this set four times now, and I think the sound on this set is excellent. I am not really a McMaster fan but must say I really appreciate the work he's done here. It's crisp and focused but not dry and thin (as I find some of his work). Perhaps that's because the original recordings may be a bit too thick and warm, I'm not that familiar with the original lps and some of the cds it has just been hard to tell. There is tape hiss but I don't really notice it in the same way as in some of the Atlantic and Collectable editions. Still, it doesn't sound "scrubbed" in any appreciable way.
  5. Good Gosh. R I P Hubert!
  6. Discussed within this thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f28/mingus-mingus-mingus-etc-49707/
  7. +1 on the two albums. Great stuff.
  8. Yes, the material was mastered in 1995 by Joe Tarantino.
  9. It's likely that Universal can do whatever they want with the Decca material they leased to Mosaic, they own it and I bet they are free to incorporate it into this set, release individual cds of it, etc.
  10. No we're not. We have you as the new contrarian to liven things up!
  11. Picked this up based on the mention here, and it's a very nice reissue, not unusual for Ace reissues. Really glad the Howlin' Wolf Hip-O Select is out. I hope a second volume is available soon.
  12. Or it's been removed if it was here, I looked too. It's possible other insiders are posting here as well, just unidentified. Wouldn't surprise me. We do pretty well information-wise all considered. Wonder what are the new sides discovered!
  13. Huh. I remember differently. I may be misremembering personal correspondence during organissimo timeframe.
  14. Me too. We also used to have posts here from Bob Belden (indino I think was his handle). I wish he had time to post (though he's no longer part of Sony's reissue program as far as I know).
  15. Just got this email: Thank you very much for the preorder for the new Coleman Hawkins release. Additional tracks were recently located and the clearance for these tracks has taken much longer than anticipated. The set is now scheduled for release in January. Wee apologize for the inconvenience. Regards, Fred
  16. Thanks for passing that along Hans. Good to see the interest in this set. Hawkins deserves the attention! I relistened to two Impulse titles this weekend and got great enjoyment from them. He had such strength in his tone and his ideas.
  17. The only one where I would have a gap would be the Ella set, and the gap isn't that large. Great sets for new collectors of these artists!
  18. It's on the site that he listed, when you choose an artist they take you to a page with each cd as a link to the disc's details. It seems that the Armstrong is now the same prices as the others on amazon.fr

    Good news!
  20. I received this this week and find it interesting so far. 12 cds for 12.11. http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Published-Works-Keyboard-Frescobaldi/dp/B0041IH4ME/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1322655595&sr=1-1
  21. Many many happy returns John!
  22. Plus one on that. We bought a Grundig turntable/radio console in Ethiopia in '67 and shipped it back home, and it still sees occasional use in my Dad's basement study!
  23. And many happy happy returns!

    Chicago

I never was too excited by the Al Kooper first edition of the band, but did get into the second album with David Clayton Thomas. The Satie piece they flirted with briefly on that one got me cognizant of that French composer, and I got my first wiff of Billie Holiday after discovering that "God Bless the Child" was one of her signature numbers. So they helped pave the way for me to several other branches of the musical tree. Later, Jaco was in the band! That's interesting, never heard any of that material.
