Well, the second season is not yet out. Nor does it yet have a release date. Probably this fall. I highly recommend watching an episode or three on the tnt website G. A.! http://www.tnt.tv/dramavision/?cid=59359

I thought that was when the tooth flared up on him. I may be wrong, which I saw as a typically Ray thing, good coming, followed by something painful; obviously I'm not remembering it in full detail.

That Airto cd is fantastic! Bev, if you're not familiar with Vinicius Cantuaria his work falls in those parameters and some of the cds are very interesting. http://www.vinicius.com/HomePage.html

I don't remember the final scene specifically. Was it with Ray, feeling "okay" about how he did on the tournament try out and deciding not to move forward, happy that his kids were proud of him, and looking forward to another date with the hygenist? And having a twinge of pain from his bookie-busted tooth? At first I thought the last scene was with Owen and his father talking about the sacrifice of running a dealership, Owen finally understanding and wanting that kind of burden. But it had to end with Ray, right? What's the favorite episode of everyone? Mine is the "I just want to stop and look at you" episode, Ray returning to dating. That one just has my girlfriend and I howling in laughter each time we watch. The funniest one, in our estimation.

Happy Birthday and many happy returns! -
In order to add a bit of levity, throw in Pete Kelly's Blues. Oh how I wish this were a better movie. The music is great though (Dick Cathcart!) (Peggy Lee! Ella Fitzgerald!)

Let us know if you find anything out.

What Chuck said. Damn. S, that's Kelley's wife, the actress reading the Monk book, isn't it?

Many many happy happy returns!

I agree the Tamba 4 is excellent.

Yeah, unfortunately I've gotten real used to that. I didn't say they weren't valid points. Sidestepping the points Shawn makes, there's the mastering which in my opinion has been in the previous three volumes excellent enough to just forget other versions, and the fact that these are presented as copies of the original lps in track listing and packaging. For some of us, this was the way we first heard the music (in my case in the 'seventies) and it can be the way we'd like to experience them now. (I really enjoy that now.) OK, I can understand that, I guess. I didn't have any issues with the Impulse CDs, and personally like having the alternate tracks available. I did check out the Amazon reader reviews (FWIW! ); seems the first volume got raves for its remastering, while 2 and 3 (especially 3) got panned. I mostly listen to these on vinyl anyway Well, I don't really know what some people are hearing in these reviews. In the case of the third box I have two of the albums in lp facsimile Impulse gatefold cds from Japan just the year before. They as far as I can tell use the very same Kevin Reeves mastering as in the box, and they sound fantastic. (As does the box set version, they sound identical). Anyway, I don't do vinyl any longer so like having these as they are. I sold a few of the extra versions I had but decided to keep the rest of the Japanese ones I have (k2 remastered and 24/192 versions) as I couldn't sell them at what I thought was a very low price, so just decided to keep them. I can certainly see why anyone who has been collecting jazz for a while would avoid these box sets; I happen to really enjoy them, and they're good for the new collector imo.

Yes, nice hunting!

Barnes and Nobles has it listed for 65 or so. http://music.barnesandnoble.com/The-Impulse-Albums-Vol-4/John-Coltrane/e/602527768205 Makes me think this may be a more widely distributed/bigger press run than the usual Hip-O Select (?)
-
No argument from me, I have the first three boxes, and that's the main way I now listen to that material. Hip-O Select presenting this is the mixed part of the lot for me. More dollars to buy it!

Starting up Damages Season Three on dvd. It was a great show on broadcast. Hopefully in a year or so I can watch Season 4.

Mostly good news!

Many many happy happy returns!

Ed Motta definitely rules. So does his aunt, Tania Maria.
-
Check out Tania Maria. She's the real deal. Almost all her albums have Fender Rhodes as well as piano. I fell under her spell about six years ago and I'm hooked. Her Blue Note cd "Intimidade" is a good one. Funky Tamborin on youtube I take it you are familiar with Ed Motta? His "Poptikal" or "Ayestelum" or "Dwitza" should be heard.

Darn, too bad I won't be watching this season of Damages til it's out on dvd. Right now, finishing up Lewverage, Season 3.
-
It's my guess it's the whole shebang. Though about half these came out on Spanish discs in the last two years, they're snoozing a bit but finally awake to what can be done officially. My guess only. . . .

Many many happy returns!

Another one! Many happy happy returns!

I'd wager seventy-five percent who would buy it would buy it just based on that description.
