  1. As Flurin points out, you get the original artwork, front, back, gate-fold inside (if any) inside the booklet. And you get two titles which I think will sound better than the one title in that digipak series. For about the same price or less. I think an argument could be made this is a better series. It is unfortunate that we have one title already in a lot of these twofers, but for new collectors these are a good boost.
  2. No, I think Bird Songs is great. It's time to wait and see. Meanwhile, EMI Japan is active with reissues.
  3. Got mine on Saturday. Not my favorite release this year.
  4. It's not the end of the world if there's a couple of threads. I have three of these so far, the Rollins, Sanders and Shepp. Bought each for just one of the sessions. These seem to be new masterings, done in Berlin, but when I compared Shepp's "Kwanza" to the US Verve edition, the sounds was very similar.
  5. This is a very cool resource:' http://www.abebooks.com/
  6. I've finally gotten around to listening to the Lunceford Mosaic. Partly because my system is sounding better than EVER, but this set sounds excellent for this material. The little I've compared on other releases, the Mosaic is an improvement. Very enjoyable listening.
  7. Saw the ultimate Harry Potter yesterday. Didn't do much for me, but I'm not a Potterite.
  8. She shows no sign of slowing down. She can still stay in the same spot for hours and hours on end!
  9. Hey, you're the boss. I just don't enjoy the listening this way. I'd do the drums differently but I'm not in the project. Does make it a bit easier for me to play my kit along with though and make my own contribution, which I did a bit on Tuesday before heat problems set in (in me, not the equipment, the AC doesn't work really well and it's been 104 or more each day this month). Allen, congratulations on a fascinating release.
  10. Yeah, I haven't read the notes. Have to say, doesn't work for me at all. Wish it did. Otherwise, very happy with the discs.
  11. TK, are you still waiting to hear if Allen thinks this is worth buying? I've been really enjoying these discs. My one gripe is I wish the drums sounded a bit "better." I've been playing electronic drums and I know they can sound better than they do here, but that may be a choice made. . . .
  12. Going to see Rise of the Planet Apes with the three Laczko brothers (all big fans of the series) and Nadine today, and probably Stupid Crazy Love with Nadine tomorrow. Should be fun.
  13. Thanks Gents! Yes, it WAS a very nice day. And today was also very nice, a great day with my favorite woman, and also spent time hearing about the great music playing and food and sight-seeing my pal Dave Laczko had in Italia the last two weeks plus. He had the adventure of a lifetime!
  14. Hope it's a good one. I couldn't resist posting this. . . .
  15. I don't know why either, but thanks for the great chuckle!
  16. There were many fascinating discoveries on twofer lps from the 'seventies for me. I remember especially Yusef Lateef releases on ABC/Impulse. Blew my mind!
  17. Thank you all. It was a great day. The biggest gift was my work-aholic girlfriend taking the afternoon off (and today). I had great seafood dinner and a lot of great relaxing. Thanks for all the good wishes! Made turning 56 a little less tart.
  18. It really is. About four years ago I had a cup of hot chocolate in a restaurant in Houston that tasted very similar.
  19. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHAWN!

Right, I've seen some of those cds and know his "name" as a good engineer, but don't have any of those. Thanks. Got all three three-cd sets in today of the Red Nichols on Brunswick. Beginning to listen to the first one and it sounds really good (engineered by Ted Kendall).
  21. Thanks y'all! Yes, Cowboys and Aliens. Plenty of Indians in it as well! That was fun. Next stop. . . dinner!
  22. Yes, me, Louis and Obama. . . all birthdays on August 4. And I am exactly the same age as Billy Bob Thornton. More's the pity. Thanks guys! I was feeling pretty poorly Tuesday and yesterday; I couldn't get the house cool enough and I think I got a bit of heat prostration. Feeling better today, and my gal is actually taking this afternoon and tomorrow off so we're off to see Cowboys and Indians and to have a nice dinner in a few minutes. Going to be a great day I think!
  23. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GATE!
  24. When I can find it I also really love Hagen Daas "Mayan Chocolate."
  25. Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter cup.
