Decided I needed a "B. Cool and Lam Detective Agency" fix. Love these A. A. Fair novels from Gardner. The bickering between Bertha and Donald remind me of that of my other favorite detective duo, Archie and Nero. And I wonder if that isn't intended, even if Bertha and Donald are sort of an inversion as far as brain power goes.

Well, I look at it as five 12 dollar cd reissues in a slipcase. Doesn't seem outrageous to me in this day and age.

I agree with you s, I don't feel that Jimi was on a path that would have led him to take his own life. Nor necessarily Janis or Jim. It's as Shawn says, who are we to say? What I do feel is that Janis and Jim may have lost control of their willpower as far as being "fucked up" goes. Being in that state of being became such a retreat that they advanced way too far and accidents happen. Jimi too may have been in that mode for just too long, or his death may have had another cause, I've neither been convinced nor unconvinced completely with the possibility of foul play in his demise. It's sad either way with all these artists. But. . . thousands are lost over and over again in this world. It's a real burden to be conscious for many, there's much pain and suffering, much joy and rhapsody, and many different responses to these stimulated states. Some lead to tragedy. Tragedy is part of the whole.

I agree, Evans did very well. He's more versatile than I thought. The CGI was well done. I also liked how they incorporated the tradition of the character with the early shield, and yet update the image plausibly. And looks as if The Avengers is going to be more interesting than I thought.

Joe, check out Threadgill! I came late to his work, but I'm glad I got there. Thanks, I needed a great laugh!

Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 6 (on tv rebroadcast, been taping them nightly and watching them three or four episodes at a time.)

And me most often I skip the old films. Don't do the same for me as it seems they do for others. Saw Captain America tonight. Thought it was great! I loved the unheralded appearance of Dum Dum Dugan, Frenchie and the rest of the Howling Commandos (including Derek Luke as a young Sgt. Fury?) and I loved that there was the Cosmic Cube, right there in the first part. Great cinematography! It was great fun. Saw it in 2D. Will probably see it again, in 3D, soon with my friend Dave. That car! And Cap's motorcycle was pretty cool. The Hydra motorcycles didn't look German though. Wish they looked more "Bavarian."

Hope where ever you are it's a great day, and many happy returns.

I'm with you pal. Very little talk of current American films there. Hope you're doing well. I'm going to see Cap tonight with David Mascorro, "the amazing sixty-teen year old!"

I doubt we'll see it, but it would be great. They could throw in Newport, and any other '67 appearances possible.

Many many happy returns!

Vol. 2?

Okay, Dark Magus would really be a ringer in that set as it's recorded in New York City! But yeah, I think there are many who would buy a Japanese 1975 box set. It would be a great set, as would a 1960 set with quality transfers from source tapes. There are a lot of gray market releases out from 1960 now. . . but I'd like to think that many of us would buy an official set. Some years ago Bob Belden left Columbia in disgust because of problems with Columbia and the estate and real reissues dried up. But that trend seems reversing and we're seeing some good box sets and Legacy two cd sets, etc. I'm hopeful for the future! My biggest wish would be for a complete box set of the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday Fillmore shows.

So I said I thought a contentious thread was interseting
jazzbo replied to Chuck Nessa's topic in Forums Discussion
That thread was just going to turn into a "terrier on a trouser leg" tenacity contest between Jim and John. Best it was closed. -
Hotforwords teaches you about "Dutch Treat."

Okay. Well, there's two more tracks of the '49 in the Classic Albums box set version not on the French CBS cd. Reviews indicate to avoid the Jazz Factory cd. It would be really easy to reissue the Tokyo material as the We Want Miles! release in the box set would easily be ready to roll. Just hire one of the regulars to provide the typical breezy liner notes. I think all the material is there from Miles! Miles! Miles! except the half a minute intro edited off Jean-Pierre, which is just sort of a bit of guitar and percussion warming up the the theme. To be honest I was really excited when We Want Miles came out on lp (a lot of it was enjoying the sort of unique recorded sound of Al Foster's drums) but as time goes on I really don't enjoy the material much at all. Not enough to want a box set that included all the recorded tracks from all the shows that We Want Miles was collected from. Miles Davis at Fillmore is another matter altogether. I'd love a box set of every second recorded. Same with the Juan Les Pins 1969 appearances.

I'm pretty certain that the best way to reissue the Miles! Miles! Miles! material would be to just add it on to the released material on We Want Miles! as an expanded reissue (as it's done for the most part in the Classic Album Collection).

Okay. Apparently there are four additional performances from the concert that weren't on the lp or the cd. A bootleg cd included all four (but from the amazon reviews the cd was sourced from MP3 tracks and pretty bad). Two of the four now appear on the cd in the Classic Albums Collection box set, "Lover Man" and "The Squirrel." I believe I have the final two selections on a Philology cd as I think they both (?) were jams including other Festival artists, including Bird.

As for Paris 1949... there was an old french CD using this LP cover: Wasn't aware it's rare or anything... The info from Sony says that the dvd first appeared officially in the Complete Classic Album box set. The final two tracks on the Paris '49 disc were not on the original lp. Not sure they were on the first Japanese or French cds. . . Edit to add: no, those two were not on the original cds. Not sure where or when they first appeared.

It will be very interesting to see if and how this new series develops. I've wished for something of this nature a long time! The live shows are where it was happening. If this first volume is even vaguely successful, let's all hope someone calls Sue Mingus's attention to it.

I used to play with King Wilson here in Austin, a bass player who could really groove. He worked with me as the drummer, his partner in the beat. He told me he thought the drive for dancing came from the interaction of low bass strings and the hi-hat. I love Aretha all the way through all the Atlantics. I get more and more from listening to her albums year after year.

FS: John Coltrane - The Prestige Recordings, 16CD-box
jazzbo replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Offering and Looking For...
There was a Japanese K2 version with 18 cds, had the Miles Davis material as well I think. -
Yeah. It's so silly when they make these sort of claims. Actually it's embarrassing.

That's good to read, but it's not a true review, more of a promo blurb. Nearly identical word for word to the text on the link aurello posted. This is good news: great sources used, complete audio shows. I'm eager for its release!

I forgot about the Bitches Brew Live disc, thanks for the reminder. Yes, those tracks were on Miles! Miles! Miles! The Classic Album Collection is a fascinating box set. I'm still having some fun comparing versions in that set with domestic and Japanese cds in my collection. And it's fun to reach into the box and pull out a favorite and spin it.
