  1. I watched most of Seinfeld as it broadcast originally on tv and enjoyed it. I will watch an occasional rerun and enjoy it. I haven't collected any dvd sets though, and won't get this one. But there are quite a few Seinfeld "insiders" here and I thought I'd post the "deal" while it was on. Over now!
  2. We've discussed these before. Maybe someone wants to join threads? I don't mind myself. I have them both (from Worlds Records) and they're fine releases, indeed.
  3. Seems like a deal to me. I'd bite in your shoes. Would be a lot of music! I may not like all of it but I bet I like quite a bit.
  4. Well, the window of opportunity may have closed for an affordable version of this set. Some of us got this for about 207 including shipping, quite a reasonable price. I can understand why others don't buy this. (By the way it doesn't purport to be a "complete Miles Davis" set, just the complete Columbia albums released with a few fudgy little exceptions (like ALL of the Blackhawk material, and the unedited tracks for the originally edited tracks in the Japanes Plugged Nickel two lps, and lots of alternates on almost all the other lps.) I'm not asking or even expecting anyone here to buy it, at all. I would definitely recommend it to someone new to collecting Davis (and there are those out there, not we jaded old jazz collectors, but we're just a little floating island). Enjoying my brief period of affluence and indolence, I'm glad I got it and am enjoying listening to it. They really DID work at making it a sonically consistently great sounding set disc by disc, which it might not have been without some careful work.
  5. I no longer have the original lp version, and I can't say I really miss it. I'd probably buy a remastered version though if offered. I'm a silly record buyer like that. Wouldn't surprise me if there were a release from Jazz Beat or Jazz Track, Atomic Records, etc.
  6. Jeff, I don't think you'll be disappointed. When it first came out I thought I had what I would really want from this ste already. I discovered that I liked all the other material as much. A great set that has held up over the years for me.
  7. You're right. I'm just reacting to reading many many criticisms of this all over the web. Gets wearying, but doesn't stop my enjoyment of the set. I've been enjoying comparing the remasters here to other versions I have. (Yes, I know, currently I have too much time on my hands). I find that these in the box are very good, only consistently bested by DSD remastered Sony discs in my collection from 2000 and 2001. I have quite a bit of the catalog in these, they're as far as I can tell almost all non-Mark Wilder remastered, and they sound fantastic, to me, on my system.
  8. This is actually an atypical Shirley Scott, with Nelson and Newman as a front line. Very good! (I'm a Scott fan though, I like most of her releases a lot).
  9. Seinfeld fans: Today only Amazon has the complete series of Seinfeld as the "Gold Box" deal for 85 dollars, like one third the normal cost. http://www.amazon.com/Seinfeld-Complete-Je...F1YY5DDBY5Y925F
  10. Actually this is a great set for someone who is just collecting Miles on cd. If it had come put in 1988 through 1992 it would have been a great boon and value to me. I still like it a lot even now and don't diss it as Bertrand does. For 207 dollars, it's really something, glue spots and all.
  11. You'll need a really good bomb shelter.
  12. More and more my favorites are the final years, for all their supposed problems, they really fascinate me.
  13. Allan, Nice post and insight. I never had connected all those dots.
  14. I'm not really that interested in either of those singers, and their work has been pretty well represented on cd. If Mosaic could find a large chunk of their music not on cd yet, yeah, that's a good project. Possibly sell. Would raise a lot of eyebrows of non-vocal jazz Mosaic buyers though, as this Crosby set does. I'm just trying to think of singers that would be "jazzy" enough for Mosaic to consider. It's true that UK EMI's 2-on-1 series has taken care of Julie London's output for Liberty, but Nancy Wilson's Capitol recordings are all over the place, spread across myriad compilations, and a complete box would be very handy. It's much the same scenario as Nat King Cole before those two Bear Family boxes. They could do a real service by putting out Irene Kral and Sue Raney sets.
  15. I love his work. I have all of it that I can find. One of my favorites is his wild version of "St. Louis Blues."
  16. The 18 cd set is I think a Japanese only release. The US was 16 cd. The other two cds in the Japanese set were the material of Trane with Miles. This is not included in the US set or the three smaller boxes. That's the only difference I'm aware of. Edit to say: The mastering and packaging may be different between the Japanese and large US sets.
  17. Ted, I'd say yes, if you like Red, and at the price. . . . Order enough to get free shipping and it's a real deal. I won't tell you how often I order from Worlds. . . too often.
  18. Added HBO Rome, both seasons
  19. Amazing deal at about 36 dollars including shipping at www.daedalusbooks.com.
  20. Okay, I can see that. I read almost every thread that shows up every day so it doesn't matter to me. And these combined threads are a lot harder to read than separate ones for me. Not sure that it's easier for the moderators to keep an eye on. And it's an effort to combine as Larry notes. I'm just saying that for me the effort could be undone. No harm done for me. And if it's easier for the moderators to not have to do I'm with that.
  21. If it's tedious and annoying why bother? Is it such a big deal to have some duplicating threads? It doesn't bother me. Does it bother a lot of others? Just asking.
  22. About a dozen Oracles for sale in all, many at 40 percent off. And someone should get the Red McKenzie and the Irving Mills Sensation discs. They're. . . sensational.
