  1. Chewy probably has this on Jazz Band. Not an exact copy of the Uptown (came out before the Uptown) but close.
  2. Have a great day and many more!
  3. Okay, a three dimensional douche.
  4. I'm not introducing anything, I'm just actually moving my speakers a bit to put the "sweet spot" further in front of me and then the sort of hollowed out sound (that I hear mainly in the reproduction of her voice at the end of phrases) just isn't so forward and doesn't bother me. I also ran a tube on my preamp input that was "fuzzier" --less detailed, warmer. So perhaps compensating wasn't the right word, I just made changes that make these recordings more listenable. I can do that fairly easily with my system by changing tubes in my cd player output, preamp or amplifier, by changing the output level of the ribbon tweeters on my speakers, isolation component changes and speaker placement. Really helps with digital recordings, and I've spent some fun years figuring out what works in my room(s) and with different recordings.
  5. I ordered this from an amazon marketplace seller for a gift, and received it a few days after Ron did. Nice set for the money. I compared it to the big box and sonicwise it's the same or so close that it doesn't matter. I listnened to all the discs in the big box over the course of a few days and yes, there are artifacts from noise reduction but I can compensate for it and it's a great listening experience. Great music. This is a real steal, this "budget" version.
  6. That should be okay. Your shelf can take it and that's just enough clearance for the amp.
  7. Enjoy yourself and many returns!
  8. Jazz Beat does (e.g. Naked City Theme, A Drum is a Woman)
  9. It does sound horrendous. You're very stoic. Keep getting well.
  10. Alias Season Two. I've made some significant changes to my system and use Alias as a "test." I know the sights and sounds so well. It's like comfort food tv for me.
  11. I don't know if it was the best episode, but it was a good one. Man, Betts' new boyfriend is going to have a rude awakening. I think it will do all the Sterling-Cooperites good to start anew. Though I really wished they'd left Campbell to try his luck with the new company. What a douche.

    Philly Joe Jones

He was also possibly on the road more than Art.
  13. Cool Kevin. Very happy for you. I still don't like Victor styling, but I don't like Street Glide styling either, and this looks a bit better. Victory is not for me, but I agree that supporting a US company is better than not. I hope you don't miss the agility and nimbleness of the Kingpin. I rode a Road King this year and though it was fun. . . I definitely did not prefer the ride and handling of the Road King over the Fat Bob. The Fat Bob was much beter in those respects. Plus, leather saddlebags work for me, and I can get hardbags for the Fat Bob if I want them down the road, I don't like windshields and fairing and don't like radio and don't want sounds to distract me on the road. I'm having so much fun with my Fat Bob, the most exciting bike I've ever had. And not one mechanical problem at all in two years. I'm not a fan of windshields and fairing and don't like radio and don't want sounds to distract me on the road.
  14. Seems more like an importer/distributor than a label per se? They handle a lot of European bootlegs, among other things. Doesn't bode well for the legitimacy of these releases. http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_nr_...;qid=1257782632
  15. Watched the second season of Californication over the last two days. Definitely a better season than the first.
  16. But it's a world market, Lon. Universal Japan have just put out some Prestige material - including Leon Spencer's "Bad walkin' woman" and Rusty Bryant's "Friday night funk" - that hadn't been issued in either the US or Japan before - the Spencer had never been on CD before, the Bryant only in the UK. They must think there are enough customers out there to make it worthwhile. (Oh, and Toshiba issued "Grant Green's "Visions".) If a Japanese firm can sell albums in suficient quantity, so can an American one - the same people are buying. Delmark must have felt there was a market for Red Holloway's "Go Red go" - a real surprise (to me) of a new issue. Yes, I know; Delmark has a different attitude to EMI and Universal Japan. Ditto Palmetto and Criss Cross Jazz for two Lonnie Smith releases this year. And Doodlin' Records, too. There's people out there wanting this stuff but the likes of EMI don't know how to get to them, by the looks of it. MG Allen, Japan has always had a different market and distributin strategy. Yes, it works for Japan. But the giants like EMI USA are totally different, with different strategies, needs and ambitions. Different than the smaller US labels, Delmark, etc. These little guys CAN find a way to do their releases I guess, can take the risk. EMI is probably going to just limp along like a tired dinosaur towards a download plan.
  17. Many many happy returns!
  18. I love Airto's contributions.
  19. I'm not sure that they would sell a couple of thousand, that's the bottom line. Some of the newest titles went into deletion very quickly because sales were so disappointingly low. And I'm not sure that selling a couple of thousand makes any sense for them. . . . I don't expect we'll see these.
  20. I just think the market drives this. If they can't keep even the heavy hitters in print, why would they put out the obscure titles like the Washington and Jordan? They'll head straight into deletion and the company loses money. And if the big name and famous PJ albums don't make it through deletion, then it makes no sense to release the others. None of this is state-subsidized etc. It's great art to us, but the owners have to make money. And they're obviously not. Maybe they'll test the waters in downloads in the future. . . but again they'll try first what sells. I'm happy for anything that comes out, but as we've seen less and less is coming out. The golden days have brassened up.
  21. Hope it was great and many happy happy returns!
