  1. Jones' Enja is excellent. I haven't heard any other leader dates.
  2. I can live without it.
  3. Well, this was a successful project from EMI. I was only going to buy one or two of the digipaks. . . and ultimately ended up buying all but "Yellow Submarine."
  4. I agree. Of course there are many artistic people who paid too much attention to the bills and the rent and the family scene. . .and never developed their art. It's such a wonderful universe full of so many potentialities! (I've become an optimist; that has the potential to change.)
  5. I guess there was no Ovaltine with benzedrine available. . .
  6. Yes
  7. I bought a few more stereo cds (earliest lps) from jr.com online and they shipped them with a nice Beatles print, suitable for framing!
  8. That's the one I was listening to. Right now
  9. Because Miles didn't like a white woman on his lp.
  10. I definitely agree with you. I lived with someone who would go into time warps. They didn't want to. They only chose to in that it was part of their compulsive behavior, they chose to "reflect" and went into that mode.
  11. And there's the King Jazz recordings which I find essential Bechet. These are actually in print from Jazzology on two two cd sets.
  12. Cool. Start a thread for that purpose.
  13. Burgess wrote so many great books!
  14. True dat. I'm pretty sure the Alexander is by Cannon. . . I can't locaate my copy at the moment.
  15. "Duke Ellington's Sound of Love." Beautiful.
  16. The power to drive speakers is very different wattage wise transistor and tube. You'll be okay. I have a 6 watt integrated, a pair of six watt monoblocks, and a 25 watt integrated amp, all from Decware, and they drive lots of speakers very well. One day maybe you'll hear some Decware stuff. Too bad we're so far apart.
  17. I've liked all those Ammons lps I've heard (thanks to Shawn mainly) from that era. Would be an interesting set.
  18. I've seen several trailers. . . I'm NOT excited about Downey in this role, it doesn't make me want to see this.
  19. Allen, Hip-O-Select reissued this some time back: http://www.hip-oselect.com/scr.public.prod...46-2d66bcad1f78
  20. You shouldn't have much to fear with Mingus becoming too avant-garde for you. He did push boundaries, but not deep into new thing territory. I wouldn't personally think you'd find anything "toxic" for you in "Black Saint and the Sinner Lady," which is quite a recording.
