Alexander, I know what you mean and respect your opinion. I've however have been badly wounded in a car accident and I'm a very safe rider and feel safe on a motorcycle. Not interested in cars as much at all. Whatever happens happens. I've survived a spouse and know the drill.

I like my lawn wild! The weeds just grew this week due to rains last week. I'll mow this weekend.

Will do . . . In the meantime, I've put away my Decware EL34 Monoblock amps for a while, and right now I'm using the single-ended EL34 integrated amp from Decware.. . .It's awesome. http://www.decware.com/newsite/SE34I.htm I love tubes.
-
Well, ironically it turns out I did buy one of these amps, used, the very first one sold. . . from the desginer/builder's partner who builds the company's speaker line. It's going to be here soon. Can't wait!

No Direction Home. . .fascinating. I saw it on TV, then bought the two DVD set. Last night I watched Better Off Ted, the Lost "recap" show (most of it, spent a little time in the garage with the bike) and The Unusuals.

When I was in Ohio at the close of the 'seventies I rode with two older guys who both had Nortons. They also each had a Triumph, one of them two. And. . . well at least one bike was alwyas running. They had real problems keeping them going. Reliable they weren't!
-
Ed, I'm so glad that you enjoyed the show. Sounds like it was one fo the good ones! And a chance to see them with your son. . .that's pretty amazing!

That counts with me! Like you say, you have the tags, you probably had to take a test for a license right? You're in!

As I remember it, the first time we talked about the Andorrans with a sneer. . . was when they started reissuing itmes NOT within the fifty year period. . . and they've continued on that path. That's very different than the issue of fifty year plus old recordings. The thing that interests me is that recordings that are technically not legal for sale in the US are distributed by distributors that distribute the disc of the US legal holders of property. Surely the distributors could be made to stop sending them to the stores both brick and virtual. . . yet they don't. Rob is right: the law is the law. But hardly ANYONE seems to be paying attention to this one in that no one is stopping their sale. Weird.

SS. . . don't have any pics. . . don't have any "gear." The only leather I have is jackets, two L. L. Bean WWII flight jacket replicas, one insulated with 3m Thinsulite and one uninsulated. Love those jackets. And I have some leather gloves. That's it. Otherwise I dress as I normally would, including my Birkenstock Chicago shoes and my Earthshoe Vegan shoes. Peter, yes, you're right, I'll never forget that you have an R75. Love those bikes. My '74 R90 is probably my favorite of the bikes I've had in important ways. Keep on rolling!

Kevin talked about starting a thread like this, and hasn't yet, so I'm going to start one. A year and a half ago I started riding again. . . first vehicle I've driven in elven years turns out to be the 2008 Harley Davidson Fat Bob I bought, then the new model for the Dyna Glide family for the 105th Anniversary year. I read and read and went to a motorcycle convention, I sat on dozens of bikes of many makes and test rode a few, and settled on this one. It's a nice cruiser, nimble for its type, and I've added some performance features such as Screamin' Eagle slip-on mufflers and for handling the wonderful True-Track engine braces and the Superbrace fork stabilizer. The handling really improved with the latter two products, and I feel I have a handle on the bike now after about 4,000 miles. (Yeah, I know, I really haven't gone anywhere. . . I've been so used to not going anywhere for so many years, I still walk a lot). I do plan some long trips this summer. I've ordered a Corbin Dual Tour seat, so my gal and I can be comfortable on those all day rides. I only ever had one Harley before, a '72 Sportster for about a year in '83-'84, and after that I had two BMW motorcycles for about six years. . . then . . . no motorcycles, bought a car, and then. . .no car. So I'm beginning to enjoy having wheels, and I really have bonded to this bike. It's a keeper. Comfortable, and although it's not a sport bike, it now handles quite capably. Here's some pics. Any other riders here want to share info and pics?? http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/picture.php...ctureid=145.jpg http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/picture.php...ctureid=144.jpg http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/picture.php...ctureid=143.jpg http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/picture.php...ctureid=142.jpg http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/picture.php...ctureid=141.jpg

Yes, I don't think so either. (But whoever owns it doesn't seem to care much...) How are Wingy's later recordings for RCA? Worth looking for a few of the Classics? I like all th Wingy I've heard. . .but that's not necessarily a universal opinion (I remember, perhaps incorrectly?, PD and others not exactly enthralled.) I'd like to see the fifties work for what are now EMI labels reissued. THe owners of Gennett do seem to care, they've put out a number of cds, compilations. I ahven't heard them. . . probably should try one.
-
Yes, but Universal doesn't own Gennett, etc. I don't think.
-
-
Yeah, he's nicknamed "Wingy" because he only had one wing. . . get it? Anyway, those dates are not in the box set because the ownership is not the same as those covered in the box set.

Well, I have different needs for the iPod and I do things differently than most here. Ever since I "retired" I've only used my iPod in a bedroom system and when I travel on the road. I now use a Wadia iTransport and a Peachtree Audio Decco DAC/integrated amplifier in the bedroom system. The iTransport is the only item that allows you to extract digital files from the iPod, so you can essentially get nearly identical sound from the source if you use lossless formats. So I have all my files in Apple lossless and they sound fantastic run through the Scott Nixon-designed DAC in the Decco integrated amplifier. These same files also sound very nice when I use the iPod with my B&O A8 headphones. . . better than MP3 versions of the files did. So because I use the iPod to hold mostly material my girlfriend and I want to listen to in playlists in the bedroom, and aren't trying to keep multitudes of cds in digital file format, I cand hold quite enough on the iPod in lossless form. I still do most of my listening through speakers on two great sound systems. . . . I love listening this way, certainly enjoy it about ten times more than through headphones, and so I have no real desire to go digital with hard drives etc.

The Prez and the Jordan on Charle Parker are EXCELLENT. I'd go for them in that order. -

I wasn't THAT impressed with her singing. But I'm glad she got that huge reaction from the audience. I've seen her on Larry King with that fawning judge Piers and have to say I wish I hadn't. Ugh. -
Re-reading complete prose of Pushkin, and also re-reading Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns.
