That sure sounds like the problem with the early cd!

Andreas Meyer did the transfers, remixes, and presumably the remastering and mastering of the Columbia set. Excellent sound. I must say. . .I like both the Smith and Farlow equally. . . these were two very different guitarists in sound and technique and "taste". . . these are two very different sets musically.

It doesn't have a "Pablo" feel at all to me, it's not at all recorded in that manner, and it doesn't seem to have the same producer and production values throughout. . . . Pablo has a wide variety of "feels" if you ask me, so does this set, there's quite a bit of variety here. The Christy is more "big band vocalist" to me than "Something Cool." I like it. The Peggy Lee is awesome.

Nope. They're available to preorder as two cds. Not sure they would fit on one. . . .

Una Mae Carlisle 1938-1941 Classics

Not sure if Blake is doing lps or not. The session with Lester Young has been on cd a number of times, including the appropriate volume in the Masters of Jazz series, and the Blue Moon small group series. It's one of my favorite sessions of all time. -
-
Good news. Great lps.

I'll see if I can find them cheap or buy them next time Concord runs a sale. I have these but I do love the sound of the Concord RVG series. . . more than K2s, etc. to be honest.

Well, with one exception, I've had very happy experiences with women, and I learned quite a bit from that one bad choice. I had a happy and eventful childhood, but for some reason I don't have to revisit it in memory often. There was in fact a distinct change in me in my adult life, which was mainly spent away from my family, and maybe I'm trapped, contentedly, in THAT "me." Anyway, I'm 53 and I think what age we are plays a factor here. And how our childhood was, probably.
-
I have to say. . . I hardly ever think about my childhood. I may think about some of the experiences I had in Africa and touring Europe now and then, mostly years 12 to 16, but I don't think back and remember earlier than that often at all. I tend to think of my adult life. . .especially starting with my first serious relationship with Susan, starting in 1980. . . for some reason my life and my memory really came alive and comes alive surrounding my romantic life and experiences with women.

Two Ike Quebec titles. And several Bechet, Art Hodes, and a few compilations of hot jazz on Blue Note. Glad I paid about 20 a piece and got these when the getting was good. Great sound.

what was the reaction to the first records in stereo?
jazzbo replied to CJ Shearn's topic in Audio Talk
I have a "Stereo Handbook" from 1959 that is interesting. . . . They have a "woofer and satellite" three piece speaker unit in there. . . and they have stereo cabinets with a specially designed curved middle section to alleviate the severe separation. Nothing new under the sun these days, it was all there from the beginning. What is cool about it also is there's a full page ad for the Eico line of amplifiers and I have a 1959 Eico stereo integrated amp. -
Huh? Oh. . . there was a full blown box set of the material, out of print for some time. But not a Select. Right?

Yes, I haven't seen this one for sale anywhere for some time. . . . Best of luck, it's well worth having. -
Oh I know, I had a Wurly and they're light. Probably why Duke traveled with one for quite some time. Ray Charles. . .man that guy made a Wurly sing.

Mabye it was a Wurlitzer or an RMI. Sometimes I prefer the Wurlitzer sound. When you dig in and those it gets mean!

Thoughts about TV sitcom directing while watching
jazzbo replied to Larry Kart's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The MTM show (1970-77) and the earlier BN show (1972-78) were contemporaneous, so I don't think there would be any "'next generation' of actors" problem. Also, I had no impression that Newhart himself (the only standup in his show's cast) was doing less or other than he should in terms of inhabiting his character effectively. MTM regulars: • Lou Grant (Edward Asner) Mary's boss • Murray Slaughter (Gavin MacLeod), the head copy writer • Ted Baxter (Ted Knight), the vain, pompous, dim-witted news anchor. • Rhoda Morgenstern (Valerie Harper) (1970–74), Mary's best friend and upstairs neighbor. • Phyllis Lindstrom (Cloris Leachman) (1970–75), Mary's snobbish landlady • Georgette Franklin Baxter (Georgia Engel) (1972–77), Ted's sweet-natured girlfriend and eventual wife. • Sue Ann Nivens (Betty White) (1973–77), host of The Happy Homemaker show. Her superficially ever-cheerful demeanor belies her true, man-chasing nature. She is particularly attracted to Lou Grant. BN show regulars: • Bob Newhart as Dr. Robert Hartley, psychologist • Suzanne Pleshette as Emily Hartley, his wife, a school teacher • Bill Daily as Howard Borden, their next-door neighbor, an airline navigator • Peter Bonerz as Dr. Jerry Robinson, Bob's friend, an orthodontist • Marcia Wallace as Carol Kester, their receptionist Larry, my point was MTM and Asner were veterans of earlier television than BN and his crew, a time when there was likely much more of a "we have to nail this because we have one shot" energy and philosophy. That could make a big difference in the feel of the recordings. -
