  1. If you really want to be "cheap" you could check out half.com. . . there are some pretty inexpensive copies of items like "Skeletons in the Closet" or "Europe '72" and "Reckoning" that may or may not be the most recent masterings but for your purposes will let you hear a lot of music.

  3. Added DVDs.
  4. Live/Dead is a really good recording to start with. I love the Pigpen area. . . and the one that followed with the Godchauxs. After that. . . I check out. There's so much Dead out there! Here's a few other recommendaitons: Fallout from the Phil Zone Wake of the Flood American Beauty Blues for Allah Dick's Picks Vol. 30 (with Bo Diddley!)
  5. I've been listening to the Coltrane Impulse Vol. 3. Sounds very good. I like having these boxes with the lp material.
  6. I've started watching Battlestar Galactica (the Sci Fi Channel version). It's alright. Entertainment. I am now starting Season Three.
  7. Hmmm. . .Per. . . I can see Monk as "very black." Very original, and yet I so often hear a sort of black stride piano underpinning. And the interest in the beat and the playing with the beat seem very much unlike what a white pianist would have arrived at.
  8. A cafe I frequent (New World Deli) has Royal Crown on tap, it's a nice nostalgic drink. I'm almost completely over soft drinks, but I suspect in the summer I'll buy "Blue Sky" soft drinks when they're on sale. Those advertisements do nothing for me. And it's not because I've always been a Coke, never a Pepsi, guy. They just don't "reach" me.
  9. Many many more happy returns

  12. Added 8 Coltrane titles.
  13. J&R has a great price on these on the website.

  15. No. I notice that they use the word "manipulation" as if I did something in addition to simply using the code. And I have no idea what they are referring to when they speak of "the required qualifying selection". Seems like they may think you used a code for a free item when you buy another item. . . . That would seem "manipulation" to them if you got free items without qualifying by buying another. . . . It could be/probably is just a "form letter" message.
  16. The lovely Anadina has been watching this show and recommends it. I believe that it can be rented. . . .
  17. Plus Grachan Monchur, "Some Other Stuff" I believe.
  18. Lost. Finally, the season premiere. I already like this season better than the last few.
  19. I pretty much gave up comics before I was 25, seemed rather silly to be reading them. . . but when the graphic novels started coming out I tried a few, namely Ronin, The Black Knight and The Wathmen (I didn't buy the individual issues, waited til these were bound together in a volume.) These three were pretty good. I was 33 though and the only comic I started to collect then was issues of Kitchen Sink's "The Spirit" because I had tried to get copies of Spirit stories since 1965 and don't think I'll ever be too old for The Spirit!
  20. Sad sad news. All the best to his family.
  21. US Bethlehem (the very earliest digital group) and then later TOCJ released this with the original cover. I happen to like both sides of the album.
  22. Yes, it's falling short of the mark somehow. I'm not analyzing it much, just enjoying for what it's worth and something to watch on Tuesday night. Don't feel about it the way I do other shows by Abrams such as Lost and Alias.
  23. Now wastching "Fringe," It's back after the holiday hiatus.

    Dick Johnson

I bet John Thomas is a sideman on one of these.
  25. Good one Allen. The sound is fine on the OJC cd.
