  1. I don't have an answer to your question about the elder Hart's mental state, but Mickey Hart left voluntarily, after the fact some months. It's surprisingly easy to find information on the internet. Here's a quote from this page: http://www.musicianguide.com/biographies/1...ickey-Hart.html "Following the release of the 1969 Grateful Dead albums Live/Dead and AOXOMOXOA, and the 1970 releases Workingman's Dead and American Beauty, Hart resigned from the group. In response to the enormous debt incurred by the band due to the purchase of expensive equipment, bad bookkeeping, and production cost overruns on the band's albums during the 1960s, Hart had convinced the band to hire his father as a business manager charged with returning the group to profitability. The elder Hart, however, eventually embezzled funds from the group in amounts estimated to be between $70,000 and $150,000. Hart stayed with the band for nine months after the revelation but then resigned out of embarrassment. The Grateful Dead provided him with a stipend, however, and Hart received a three-record advance from Warner Bros. He used the proceeds to build a 16-track studio on the ranch that he rented."
  2. There's quite a bit of comment about the Hutcherson on the site. I really like it, it adds an extra, unreleased session that is as good as the released, and I like the writing and the voices. The Kentons. . . well they're what you would expect them to be knowing a bit of Kenton.
  3. Winter? Perfect day here in Austin!
  4. Hadn't heard about this one, that's good to know...how long has it been out, and is it a continuation/expansion/just what exactly of "Berimbaum"? The cd came out last month in Brazil I believe. . .so far only Dusty Groove has it that I can find. Yes, it's a sort of continuation/expansion of "Berimbaum". . . if you like that one you'll like this one, no doubt. I love them both. They have distinct differences but they're more alike than not.
  5. I couldn't bear not having that Chandler "voice" so I started re-re-re-re-reading "The Long Goodbye."
  6. My favorite record this year is Paula Morelenbaum's follow up to her her excellent "Berimbaum." It's called "Telecoteco". . . . Very cool.
  7. Hope it was a great one! Many many more!
  8. relyles has it right, that collection has been out a while. Good stuff!
  9. Many more happy happy returns of whatever is the correct day! Break out the Tele and PLAY!
  10. I don't think so Chris. That letter from Glaser was fascinating to see. Thanks.
  11. I think Aric may be mistaking "Velvet" for "Violet" as in "Violet for your Furs."
  12. Many more happy returns Don!

    Blue Note

    Oy vey.
  14. I hope it wasn't the 1930s Ellington big-band set that fell through. I've heard from good authority (JETman) that it was the Jamal that was NOT nixed but significantly delayed that freed up the spot for the Armstrong.
  15. Miles has a chance of winning! I think I'll vote for an expanded "Between Nothingness and Eternity" and a lot of Gary Burton on RCA.
  16. Jeremy Steig's "Howlin' for Judy" should be heard. Fascinating, really. . . at least for me. When I think "Flute Album" I think. . . Roland Kirk's "I Talk with the Spirits." Phenomenal.
  17. Spam? I thought he was a talk show host. . .
  18. Right. Sorry, I know that. I meant to say "both of the first two". . . I'll edit that to reflect that.
  19. Just thought I'd point out that both of the first two volumes of Commodore Records on Mosaic are for sale by an individual on the AAJ board for an IMO not insane collective price. . . . Edited to correct, thanks Chuck
  20. Yes, click on an item and you'll be directed to the website (www.concordmusicgroup.com). Also. . .CMG still works as a "promotional code" / coupon to get . . . 20 percent off.
  21. "Voices from the Street," "Eye in the Sky" and "Solar Lottery," are my favorites of the early ones. . . .Several of the other mainstream novels like "Voices" were written in part before Time Out of Joint I believe. . . and I like them ALL.
  22. I was talking with my father about this (we were talking about economic problem times) and he felt that it really didn't end til after WW2.
