  1. I don't have any definitive knowledge. I believe that there's a really good chance that what we'll see from now on is predominantly "safe" reissues. . . and then maybe within five to ten years there will be very little on cd you'd want to buy. Some very sharp and savvy minds seem to be telling us that, right here. I really don't think there's anything in the vault along the lines of unreleased and alternate takes of Freddie's stuff as a leader that we'll ever see. Michael Cuscuna put out what he WILL put out. If he hasn't, he won't. And he's holding the reigns, which is a good thing, I am sure.
  2. It's an excellent booklet. More like a book.
  3. It's certainly not his best. Some plot devices I didn't ever think he'd use, Marlowe is more a stereotypical private eye than ever before. . . but it's still Chandler. It still has some magic. But almost any other Chandler novel would be a better choice.
  4. Yeah Flurin, they've all been out, and these were even out in earlier editions before the RVGs: Here to Stay (RVG) Hub Cap (RVG) Hub Tones (RVG) Breaking Point (RVG) Blue Spirits (RVG) Night of the Cookers (RVG) I think in this late stage of the cd format we're not likely to see Blue Note release a Hubbard box set.

I agree, this is an excellent place to start. I like the Decca period, and haven't really heard much else from her. Not much available domestically I'm afraid.
  6. Yesterday I watched a lot of Weeds Season 2 and the fourth disc of Alias Season 2.
  7. I'm continuing a Chandler binge, this time "Playback". . . .
  8. I don't think they picked a bad lp in the Prestige RVG series yet.
  9. NO, not the same thing, I think the Blue Note series was called Collector's Classics, it was a series of "commissioned" (distributors and retailers were asked how many copies of each they wanted) repressings of cds that were deleted in the early years of digital. They were repressed and sold with exactly the same packaging and remastering as the original cds, with the exception that, in all instances I THINK, the center trays were of white plastic (a la Toshiba).
  10. If they're available on cd for the first time. . . how come I have some of these on cd?
  11. My favorite stereo builder started off repairing speakers and refoaming etc. He's gone on to design and build many speakers including a handful of subwoofers that he sells today in plan form or fiinished. He has a page with parts and instructions, and I bet he would also do the repairs. I trust this man, Steve Deckert, as I trust few others. Here's the page: http://www.decware.com/newsite/repairs.html ASNL77, I'm not a subwoofer user, but if I had a need for one I'd seriously consider a Decware subwoofer. They make reasonably priced excellent handmade products. Their subwoofers are on this page with all the other speakers: http://www.decware.com/newsite/speakers.html
  12. RT, I think you can pass on the Tyner Select. . . eventually I think Cosmos will come out in some form other than the Select and you don't need any of the other titles, so. . . pass it by. The Toshiko will be available for a long time to come. I'd say go with your expanded 400+ plan and then you're good for some time.
  13. And then many many more!
  14. These are also on yourmusic.com
  15. Of those I know, I would list them in order of preference: Quarteto Novo Bonfa Donato Deodata The Quarteto Novo is very very nice.
  16. I know I will; I have no idea why I've put it off. Well, I did get this book store gift certificate for Christmas...maybe I'll get off my butt. Well, Vintage/Black Lizard just put all the Chandlers out in nice new trade paperbacks. . . I picked up one, then I picked up two others, now I picked up five more with Xmas dollars; I have only one more to get which wasn't on the shelf (The Little Sister). I think my two favorites are "The Long Goodbye" and "Farewell My Lovely" but almost all the novels ALL awesome.
  17. This has been discussed. . . . Look at the last few pages of this thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=47887 I would say you could go with either set. . . time on both sets. The Berry may be "better" musically depending on your tastes and your tolerance of alternates.
  18. Then the question becomes whether it's worth it for the album cover alone. How often do you see a friar playing jazz alto? Well, if you're talking about the lp with Condonites I think it's quite nice! Hopefully it will surface on cd or download one day.
  19. Damn. RIP Freddie. . .
  20. After a slow start I ditched this for the Chandler. . . after the Chandler I resumed it and am enjoying it.
  21. Many many more happy happy ones!
  22. See one more! Many more happy ones!
  23. That's very interesting. Maybe it's Europe only?
  24. Worlds Records, who I trust, lists this as an Archeophone Records release. . . . http://www.worldsrecords.com/cgi-bin/store...=12-26-08.29777 But, it appears to be an Off the Records label release, possibly their only one so far.
  25. James, I think you and Hans are talking about the same set. . . .
