  1. I've never been really excited by the Dizzy set. The Chu set is very good, I wouldn't fret about the mastering, Ted Kendall did quite a nice job. The Basie set is excellent.
  2. Oh, I kind of like them, you don't stay seated too long, keeps you going rather than chilling! And, conversely, I actually believe the petite Ms. Adu would be quite comfortable in those.
  3. Someone actually pays attention to those magazines?
  4. It was about music. . . if I'm going to be on a desert island I'd want all my instruments (I have two basses, a bass violin, an electronic keyboard, three guitars, a drumset and some precussion pieces) to back up Helen Folasade Adu's lovely singing! So there! I hate sports so I've never heard that podcast you're talking about. I HAVE heard both men and women talk about celebrities in that way. . . .Somehow I don't think New Yorkers are "above all that" superior.
  5. Scarlett would to be SO jealous!
  6. If I have to be stranded on a desert island. . . . Can it include a nice little studio room like this with this occupant? Your turn!
  7. Right now: Paradiso sparkling mineral water from Italy
  8. After years of dissatisfaction with the results, I finally ditched the drip coffeemaker method and am now using one of these: Some people also use the Chemex version of this which is also excellent. With a good adjustable burr grinder and some good quality coffee (I order it from a place in Georgia called St. Ives Roasters) the result is that I can FINALLY make a good cup of coffee at home. I guess for about twenty-five years I have been doing something quite similar, using a #2 Melita cone, which I let drip into a 16 ounce mug. All the coffee I need for the usual day. http://www.rutamaya.net/store/ I've been lucky for ten years to live near a great supermarket with a huge bulk section with great coffees, though the last four years or so I've been mainly using this Ruta Maya organic coffee, grown in Mexico, but roasted right here in Austin. Wonderful stuff!
  9. Many more happy happy ones!
  10. A mug of Ruta Maya organic Mexican medium roast with cream.
  11. Nah, it's either Bitches Brew or Sunshine of Your Love.
  12. To each their own. This show has become LESS interesting to me over time, but I'm glad it seems improving to others.
  13. Just had a mug of coffee grown organically in Mexico and roasted here in Austin (with real cream) and two egg, potato and salsa breakfast tacos. Perfect breakfast for today!
  14. Finally (assuming this all pans out) a "Road Trips" unquestionably great to buy: Summer '71 soundboards not known before: http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/g...n-the-way/#more
  15. Meyers's White Rum, Blue Sky Natural Cola
  16. Many many happy returns.
  17. I had a huge lunch whihch was really breakfast ("The Kerby Lane Special"--two eggs, slice of ham, two huge whole wheat and apple pancakes) and so just had some blue corn chips and artichoke-spinach hummus for "dinner." And a big bottle of mineral water. It's hot here!
  18. Here Al, you can do the typing if you want to: http://www.concordmusicgroup.com/search/?S...SC&offset=0
  19. That and the fact that the general consensus is that the Prestige K2's absolutely smoke the RVG's. Personally, I'm not a blanket fan of the K2s. I prefer RVGs I've compared, and even newer nonK2 remasterings. It's all so subjective.
  20. Maybe there are new listeners enough to support these being released in new versions. . . they would want NEW versions rather than old ones, and the added bonus is the occasional jazz veteran dweeb who will rebuy for an extra track or the new remastering. . . (Hey I'm the perfect jazz dweeb so I'm throwing the stone). Also, consider this: the retainlers will autiomatically order the new release. . . they won't ordinarily automatically reorder the OLD cd version. This could be a way for Concord to get orders from distribution (?) And there's likely the thought that a title that sold before will sell again (the flip side to Cuscuna's belief that if it didn't sell before it won't sell now).
  21. Many many more happy ones!
  22. The Lateef is a great one. I confess I bought it because I wanted the tracks not previously on cd that I only had on lp before. I love this music, it's some of my all-time favorite jazz. Now I would love love love to have this material not yet on cd otherwise from the US holder, but. . . I just don't see it happening. I'll buy it if it does. This music deserves to be in print in the US. I've been emailing about this set with JET. He likes the packaging and presentation a bit more than I do, but we both agree the sound is great.
  23. Oh totally, I feel that way, differing tastes, I encounter that all the time. I have had the original Head On a long time, which may be a reason, it may seem a bit dated now, it didn't when I first started hearing it. And it's nice to have it without certain lp effects!
