I keep hoping I'd find a lot of cheap copies of Elis' cds. . . . I have about six or seven. My favorite is a two cd collection or rareties. . . "20 Annos de Saudade". . . . I also really like the one with the Zimbo Trio, the one of Elis in London. . .the Montreux Jazz Festival with Hermeto. . . well I like all I've heard. What a talent! When I feel afluent enough I'm going to order a few dvds.

Well, I feel differently bout Dick. . . I like the novel better than the movie, I like the entire work a lot, and I think I like the non sf work best of all . . . my most recent assessment. I like him better than Kafka, who I really do like, and what I've read of Borges and Calvino. But then I've been reading Dick since 1967, and he warped that 12 year old mind and kept warping it. He's very relevant to my experience. I started reading him in Africa. . . I think that being American and my re-entry into the American culture as a teenager made an impact that I wouldn't have had otherwise. I find the comic sad because. . . that "revelation" brought Dick so much turmoil and pain and isolation and unsettlement. I think he finally found some calm near the end, but that was so close to the end, and it probably didn't or wouldn't last.

Too bad that McGrath seems to not reallize that the "mainstream" novels exist. Those may be his best works. I highly recommend "Voices from the Street" to PKD nuts. The Crumb comic always makes me so. . .sad. (I posted a link to this on the second page of this thread).

I like the Whitaker the more I listen to it. . . I was sort of lukewarm about this when I first heard it but have warmed to it over the last few years. I might be really hot for it by 2009!

I'm weary. I think I might dislike Santana as much as I like Alice. Well I generally dislike Santana outside of his blues latinboogaloo bag. But this one. . . I find that Alice's framework allows him to literally soar and I find it beautiful.

I really like the Santana/A. Coltrane "Illuminations". . . but I'm a big Alice fan.

I've gone through all the discs sequentially at leat three times, and spun individual discs a few times as well. I love the sound!

I agree that Blake has talent, and imagination. . . . But I just get this vibe off him. . . I don't "like" him at all. Both he and Melinda have this cultivated persona. . . I just happen to like Melinda! And I love Jordin! She's got charisma in spades.

Man, the music was pretty sucky this week. . . Bon Jovi, yeah right. Melinda did the best. I fear for Jordin since two are going home tonight. I don't want her to leave! If I were casting people off the island it would be Chris and Phil. But. . . I would doubt they both go.
