  1. You know, it's pretty easy to turn many of them into something solid and circular in your hands to pop into your player. (I admit that I have trouble with and have not learned to burn some forms).
  2. Some adult jazz fans buy only cds. Some download as well, and not just for iPods. Nothing is that absolute.
  3. Went to see Grindhouse today. Totally a blast just for the enthusiasm for the material that the directors and actors communicate. Very interesting to see the Austin area presented; three eateries I know well are filmed lengthily (one less than a mile from my house, another less than a mile from my workplace). My one gripe: the Austin characters, the girls out on a night on the town, didn't at all seem like Austinites to me. Not a one. But. . . boy is Ms Poitier charismatic!
  4. Wow. . . so hard to pick favorites. . . I think I'm inclined to agree with Shawn.
  5. Armstrong, Miles and Monk? I'll be getting those three! Good news!
  6. I have found that I like Sony's though some burners don't want to burn some blanks. If my standalone Alera Technologies burner won't accept the Sony, my iBook burner will, so I just set them aside if I run into one with a problem. Imation have done very well for me. TYs yes, great stuff in all their incarnations. I just find it easier to stop off at Walgreen's on the way home and buy a spindle of what's on sale. I have had longevity issues with Kodaks. Others have had longevity issues with a cheap brand of audio blanks I bought from www.am-dig.com some years ago, but I actually haven't.
  7. Yes, Elevation. And Village of the Pharoahs was a fairly recent addtion to the Verve Vault (sore spot for some).
  8. The Shepp was pretty useless, though, since the major cuts were available as bonus cuts on 'The Way Ahead' CD. Better if it would have been 'Things Have Got to Change' (impossible to find on CD now), or at least 'For Losers' or 'The Magic of Ju-Ju' (both pricey imports, which I did shell out for). The couple of short stray tracks from Kwanza could have been placed as bonus cuts on these. Well, that's your personal opinon. I had the tracks on The Way Ahead, and a vinyl copy that was worn, and I wanted the whole session together as a cd and I'm glad to have it. For me it works as a single entity quite wall. And I feel the sound on this is better than earlier digipak Impulses.
  9. These days my favorite brand is the one on sale at Walgreens!
  10. Jim, listening to the Right Time remix for about the eight time right now. This one really does deliver. My favorite of the remixes! Also, there's a sprout of a new Monday thread over at AAJ.
  11. Well a Pharoah and Shepp came out recently, via the Verve LP by Request (sort of) series. They sound great.

OJC put out a cd of Mercer material. . . sound wasn't great but not awful either. . . under Johnny Hodges name, "Caravan." I think I remember from the liners. . . this was all the material from Mercer of this vintage? 1. Frisky 2. Longhorn Blues 3. Flower Is A Lovesome Thing 4. Far Away Blues 5. How Could It Happen To A Dream 6. Who Struck John? 7. June's Jumpin' 8. Lotus Blossom 9. Violet Blue 10. Searsy's Blues 11. Little Taste 12. Let The Zoomers Drool 13. Night Walk 14. Caravan 15. Hoppin' John 16. She 17. Happening 18. Sultry Serenade 19. Alternate 20. Jumpin' With Symphony Sid
  13. According to a post in this thread, these will be included on "Greatest Hits" later this year.
  14. Yup. I've taken up drinking along with all the other unhappy people.
  15. VERY few duds on this label. I really enjoy most of the historical releases. Check out almost any by Pete Jolly . . . . The Stan Levey is great.
  16. Well Dan, I wish you had been right. . . we still have Phil.
  17. I sit corrected then.
  18. John, I don't think that is true, their shipping page mentions checking to see a dropdown list of countries. . . .
  19. Darn it. More money to spend.
  20. We're trying hard not to be jealous!
  21. A new record! Was it my order?
  22. I guess I was just disappointed she didn't choose a better song and offer a better performance. She is attractive, I'll agree. I'll not forget this dress for a while!
  23. Don't play it if you can't keep your eyes open!
  24. Wow. . . Latin is not the forte of the Idol contestants! I still liked Jordin's performance though. She's very charismatic. I think she's a real beauty. This week I think they slammed Melinda with no justification. Her performance was elegant and polished and confident and should have been praised. What a talent she is! And I like Haley though she didn't do so hot this week. She's a better singer than they give her credit for though. . . she actually goes from soft to loud etc. though that doesn't come off well in their engineering. Most of these singers are all singing at their top volume all the time. That can be boring! None-the-less I believe that Haley will go this week.
