You're not alone, I very much dislike the name and would have advised against it. While I want to believe that these releases are being put out there to preserve Art's legacy and to expose a lot of Art's fantastic performances that were never released, the name gives the impression, whether true or not, that it's only about money and milking what is now a "commodity". Yea, I don't know why she wasn't doing this kind of thing earlier, when there may have been even more of a market for them, back in the late 90's early 2000's. The other thing I don't like is that they are live releases from an era of his career that is hardly starved of live material as it is.

Bill Evans, Turn out the Stars, Best Buy $13.99
Cliff Englewood replied to jazzbo's topic in Re-issues
It doesn't really say anything about "new" re-mastering on the one I have, it says "Original location recording, remix and digital mastering: Malcolm Addey." No "re" in there. Which is that, Cliff--the Japanese release or the new Nonesuch release? Sorry, should have said it was the Nonesuch release. It says the exact same thing in the booklet of the original Warner release. So the Nonesuch adds nothing new. Another mystery solved. Now let’s go down to the old Pirates cave and see what those no good smugglers are up too. :excited: -

Not really, I'm not that much in love with Ireland, especially the weather. It's just there are lots of nicer places than the USA. Or should that be USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA.

I'm well used to the Irish "summer" by now, it's very similar to all the other seasons, but, after having lived in the USA for a couple of years, I can assure you there is nothing there I would be jealous of. In fact, unless you're from a Third World nation there is very little to be jealous of at all.

That's a pity, it'll make that belated mid-life crisis a bit more difficult to pursue, I mean the leather jacket will be totally redundant for a start.

Disc 1 has Art with Warne Marsh!!! But then - this is probably originally from Contemporary, and has already been released(?). Q Yes this peaked my interested also, but like you, I presume it will be the stuff from here; and here; but maybe even from here;

No, you're not alone there in your dislike of the name, but I'll raise you one, I don't really like Laurie herself, at least from the way she writes about herself from her time with Pepper. I always get a bit of a Yoko Ono-ish vibe about her. Maybe it's just me.

Thanks, I had totally forgotten that one; I will have to dig it out now, wherever it is. :unsure:

Wow, pompous, pretentious and sanctimonious, and a bit of baby to boot. What's the air like up there???

Does anyone know/and or Have any of the 3 cd
Cliff Englewood replied to BERIGAN's topic in Recommendations
That's a bit mad/bad/sad that the Ellington is OOP already, that's slightly less that a year since it was released, and why is it gone if the others still available??? I thought the Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong sets would have gone first. -
Gee, I see your pompous and pretentious personality is where it always was and judging by how overly sensitive you are to someone disagreeing with you, I'd say yes, you ARE the new Allen! Sorry to disappoint, but there never was a "hostility campaign", little or large. I've been grown up for quite some time and I have never shoved anyone in a hall, even in school. And calling someone dude is a bit, well, ye know.

I have the "Yesterdays" on Pablo and would also recommend it, a good live set, I would love to get my hands on the 2 Levey's.

I'd like to see the details before I get too excited about this, it does sound interesting though.

I have to say, I don't think anyone was whineing, just expressing their opinions and disappointment with this release and the way things are going at Concord. Also, perhaps you're not the most objective reviewer, as I would guess a good 10% to 15% of all your posts are along the lines of "I got the new re-issue of this release and it sounds much better on my system". Maybe instead of "Don't get them if these bother you.", it should be "Unless you only want to read about pure, unadulterated love for every domestic re-issue, stay out of the "Re-issues" threads??? BTW, how are things going on the RVG Street Team???

Are you talking about this one; or this one? I only have the former, live in the mid 70's and it's very good. This one seems to be fairly new and possibly not out on cd before, anyone know anything about it? Here's the blurb from Amazon; Product Description During the first half of 1978, Stan Getz toured Europe with a sextet he co-led with trombonist Bob Brookmeyer. The other band members consisted of Andy Laverne on piano, Mike Richmond on bass, Jeff Brillingen on drums, and Efrain Toro on percussion. Afterwards, Getz would continue playing in Europe with different formations that sometimes featured a similar rhythm section to the one employed with Brookmeyer plus other guest musicians. This show features seven tracks including 'They Can't Take That Away From Me', 'Billie's Bounce' and 'I'll Remember April'. Gambit. 2009.

Actor David Carradine found dead in Bangkok

That was the first thing I thought of when I first heard this. -
Freakin' no-brainer to just put the 3 LP's and the 'Here and There' tracks into a 2CD set 'Eric Dolphy Complete Live at the Five Spot', as was mentioned at the very beginning of this topic many moons ago. Instead we get this, and probably a 34-minute 'Eric Dolphy Plays Flute for Lovers' next year at Valentines Day,while the Andorrans will no doubt do it right in 2011 (and will do another right 2CD set of the 'In Europe' LP's). This stuff ain't rocket science, amazed they refuse to get it right. Fantasy was doing really nice work along these lines when they sold to Concord, the Red Garland at the Prelude set, the Monk/Trane set, the Evans Vanguard set, the Miles Quintet set, the Trane boxes, etc. I had really hoped Concord would just keep on that path, as they did release some of those initally, but they went to the Dark Side. BTW, "Status Seeking" was always my favorite cut from the Five Spot recordings. What they said. :tophat:

Good call, prompted me to listen to this today. Some really nice playing, plenty of swing, lots of love for Pres Ditto, I bought this one from good ole Felser a while back, it's great.

Great clip, thanks, here's another good one;

I think that one was brand new, from a seller who seems to have a lot of low numbered (some single digit), very early, brand new sets. Has "Blue Note" in his moniker and is from Stamford, CT. Wonder if it's the company itself selling some excess stock? (I know, I know, it could be anybody, but who's fortunate to get a single numbered set besides some big wig?) New or mint Buddy De Franco's go for about that much. However, I noticed a brand new LP version went recently for $200 less. Yea I noticed that there seems to be quite a few still sealed editions of some early sets on there. I think that prices like the Buddy De Franco/Sonny Clark one a few and far between. I think I may hold on the OOP ones I have that I don't really listen to a bit longer. :D

I thought that mastering was really good, would certainly not be looking to pay for just a remaster. I agree, that's why picking this up would be re-re-redundant for many Yes, there is no new re-mastering on these, as JETman points out, unless it's your first time getting these, they are really re-re-redundant. :rolleyes:
