  1. I'd like to see the details before I get too excited about this, it does sound interesting though.
  2. I have to say, I don't think anyone was whineing, just expressing their opinions and disappointment with this release and the way things are going at Concord. Also, perhaps you're not the most objective reviewer, as I would guess a good 10% to 15% of all your posts are along the lines of "I got the new re-issue of this release and it sounds much better on my system". Maybe instead of "Don't get them if these bother you.", it should be "Unless you only want to read about pure, unadulterated love for every domestic re-issue, stay out of the "Re-issues" threads??? BTW, how are things going on the RVG Street Team???
  3. Are you talking about this one; or this one? I only have the former, live in the mid 70's and it's very good. This one seems to be fairly new and possibly not out on cd before, anyone know anything about it? Here's the blurb from Amazon; Product Description During the first half of 1978, Stan Getz toured Europe with a sextet he co-led with trombonist Bob Brookmeyer. The other band members consisted of Andy Laverne on piano, Mike Richmond on bass, Jeff Brillingen on drums, and Efrain Toro on percussion. Afterwards, Getz would continue playing in Europe with different formations that sometimes featured a similar rhythm section to the one employed with Brookmeyer plus other guest musicians. This show features seven tracks including 'They Can't Take That Away From Me', 'Billie's Bounce' and 'I'll Remember April'. Gambit. 2009.
  4. That was the first thing I thought of when I first heard this.
  5. Freakin' no-brainer to just put the 3 LP's and the 'Here and There' tracks into a 2CD set 'Eric Dolphy Complete Live at the Five Spot', as was mentioned at the very beginning of this topic many moons ago. Instead we get this, and probably a 34-minute 'Eric Dolphy Plays Flute for Lovers' next year at Valentines Day,while the Andorrans will no doubt do it right in 2011 (and will do another right 2CD set of the 'In Europe' LP's). This stuff ain't rocket science, amazed they refuse to get it right. Fantasy was doing really nice work along these lines when they sold to Concord, the Red Garland at the Prelude set, the Monk/Trane set, the Evans Vanguard set, the Miles Quintet set, the Trane boxes, etc. I had really hoped Concord would just keep on that path, as they did release some of those initally, but they went to the Dark Side. BTW, "Status Seeking" was always my favorite cut from the Five Spot recordings. What they said. :tophat:
  6. Good call, prompted me to listen to this today. Some really nice playing, plenty of swing, lots of love for Pres Ditto, I bought this one from good ole Felser a while back, it's great.
  7. Great clip, thanks, here's another good one;
  8. I think that one was brand new, from a seller who seems to have a lot of low numbered (some single digit), very early, brand new sets. Has "Blue Note" in his moniker and is from Stamford, CT. Wonder if it's the company itself selling some excess stock? (I know, I know, it could be anybody, but who's fortunate to get a single numbered set besides some big wig?) New or mint Buddy De Franco's go for about that much. However, I noticed a brand new LP version went recently for $200 less. Yea I noticed that there seems to be quite a few still sealed editions of some early sets on there. I think that prices like the Buddy De Franco/Sonny Clark one a few and far between. I think I may hold on the OOP ones I have that I don't really listen to a bit longer. :D
  9. Yea, I was going to mention that fact as well, he was a bit of a chancer really. :D
  10. I thought that mastering was really good, would certainly not be looking to pay for just a remaster. I agree, that's why picking this up would be re-re-redundant for many Yes, there is no new re-mastering on these, as JETman points out, unless it's your first time getting these, they are really re-re-redundant.
  11. It says 1959 was Jazz's greatest year on a sticker on the packaging, I saw these in Tower the other day. Miles Davis: Sketches of Spain (50th Anniversary Enhanced 2 CD Legacy Edition) [ENHANCED] Charles Mingus: Ah Um 50th Anniversary (Legacy Edition) [ENHANCED] Dave Brubeck : Time Out -50th Anniversary (2 CD/1 DVD Legacy Edition)
  12. Considering how many sessions he was on or leader of, and considering how much of it got released, Miles Davis. I know he composed a good few classics but there are so many albums where it's all standards or the writing of his band members.
  13. I saw that a Complete Buddy De Franco/Sonny Clark-MOSAIC 4CD Set went fo nearly $360 including shipping, $90 a disc, ouch. :o
  14. If I remember correctly, when Senor Goldberg was around, this was one of his favorites and he used to talk it up fairly regularly.
  15. Yes, it's very good news if you're a Liverpoolf fan, I'm not so thrilled about the news that they might sign Tevez though, he's good and all that, just not what they need at the moment. But I am thrilled that Ronaldo might not get his way after all as Madrid might not want him in the end. Ronaldo's Real dream shattered as weary Madrid move for Bayern Munich's Ribery
  16. Finals never really are the greatest games, but if you didn't sit in awe of the way Barça hold on to the ball you probably will never like football. It was a lesson in the importence of possession, if you have the ball there is very little chance of the opposition doing you any damage and if you don't give it away easily there's even less chance again. United were exposed big time, they are not nearly as good as they were last year, all this "best United team ever" thing is bullshit. Of course Barça was brilliant in terms of passing the ball, although they lacked a bit in the finishing touch department, but in terms of greatness we saw finals deliver a bit more, to have a great final imo we need some drama for that we need two teams being able to able to hurt the opponent or play at the same level. This year except for the first minutes MU was out of contention. Last year final was a fine example of a dramatic game, best example of a great final is of couse the extraordinary Liverpool-Alaves UEFA cup final that took place some years ago I think this is why North Americans will never really "get" soccer, it's not supposed to be like a Basketball or Hockey game where 2 teams are in a race to see who can score the most, some of the most interesting/entertaining matches I have watched over the years have ended up 0-0. As long as it was only 1-0 last night, United had a chance, Barça were playing the best defence in Europe in that Final, Man U hadn't lost a game in Europe for I think 2 years. Barça didn't even have their first choice defence. United had all their squad available and just couldn't live with Messi, Xavi and Iniesta and when you see them in the Premiership every weak play badly and still beat teams, seeing them get spanked last night was really interesting.
  17. I know this one here gives his arranging credits on the Sal Salvador sessions; if you're still looking for them let me know.
  18. I know somebody was looking for the K2 of Monk's Music recently, I think they posted in the Recommendations area.
  19. Sorry, but it was a really great game, if you found that plodding, well at least you're honest about your observations.
  20. Finals never really are the greatest games, but if you didn't sit in awe of the way Barça hold on to the ball you probably will never like football. 21. Cliff, I think Marc Myers over at Jazzwax is of the same mind as you on this one. That is wild, thanks for that ghost, I think he sums up his feelings about the album better than I do though. However, he seems to change his tune at the end; "in all, the Complete Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Recordings is a highly worthwhile set for fans of the Bennett-Evans collaboration—even if you've never cared for the original recordings or you already own them. It's an important entry because it fully documents what has been up until now a highly puzzling session. What's more, you finally get to hear the alternate takes. They demonstrate just how good this pairing could have been with the right producer in the booth. To paraphrase Evans, it's on these tracks where truth met beauty." Which makes me think I should check this out again but on the other hand, it must be rare/weird for a session's alternate takes to get a better reveiw than what was released.
  22. Wow. My reaction couldn't possibly have been more different. I LOVE that album. My favorite cut is "When In Rome." Yea don't know what it was, maybe I was just used to hearing Bennett with more "padding" around him, he seemed to be over doing it a bit. I liked the lyrics to "When In Rome" though.
  23. It is, point 4 was very good, they forgot to mention that you will eventually need some deep pockets.
  24. Oddly enough I was just listening to their first album for the first time last night. I really didn't like it, not really enough variety and everything seemed a bit over the top emotion wise, IMHO of course.
  25. In a way I envy you, the Bone-meister has been a favorite of mine for years but I would love to have the thrill of discovering him for the first time again. Hs is soooooooooooo good.
