Why was the Stan Getz thread deleted?

I'm sure this post will get deleted like most of the rest of them have been in this thread, but anyway, he never does what he says he's going to do, does he? -

Then you really shouldn't post anything in the thread, unless it's recommendations for Stan Getz recordings. If you're not willing to say anything on why you think it's sad for the board the thread is gone, why post that you think it's sad for the board that the thread is gone in the first place??? If the person who started the thread has no problem with it being deleted and the owner of the forum saw it as correct to delete it, then the matter is closed. Now back to discussing the many recordings of Stan Getz that some of us have or may wish to get. One reason I didn't say more. . . .Maybe I was being polite and didn't want to say something bad about you. You were rubbing your hands with glee that you felt Allen was chided by Bev. I didn't like your attitude. I haven't liked the way you provoke Allen. I'd like to think you can find a better use for your time than worrying about what people say about Allen, he's a big boy and he can look after himself. Jim, sorry for causing you any trouble with my fake retirement post and other than the fact that it took me a while to type it, I have no problem with you deleting it. I know I PM'd you recently regarding behaviour on the board and I don't want you to think that I was doing that just to test the waters, the two incidents were separate and the timing was coincidental. It was meant as genuine satire and I though it was quite funny. I know of at least two other members who found it funny as well, I’m sure there were more they just didn’t PM me. To anybody who didn't get to read it, I still have the text and can PM it to you and you can make up your own minds. A few people didn't like it; I could have predicted who they were before I posted it, the kind of babies that go on about the whole freedom of speech thing until they read something they don't like. No biggie, as I say it was a joke and anyone who has been on the board for a while and has a sense of humour probably enjoyed it. -
Not a who but a what, the ECM label, dipping my toe into a few bits and pieces.

Somebody just needs to make an announcement.

Possibly because of this; No topics were found. This is either because there are no topics in this forum, or the topics are older than the current age cut-off.

Well, I know this is probably a bootleg, but curiosity killed me. I bought it recently and here's my observation: 0. Sonically speaking, the 1975 Lincoln Center tape sounds so-so. I guess the tape speed is slightly too fast -- the voice pitch of the announcer sounds too high for me, but since I don't have the absolute pitch, don't believe me too much. The 1972 Village Vanguard tape must be an audience recording, so don't expect hi-fi sound. But I think it's acceptable, anyway. 1. Monk plays surprisingly well - much more energetic and inspired than the late 60s. He comps steadily behind Jeffery(which became kinda rare when he was with Rouse in the late 60s), and takes good solos by himself. Not ground-breaking, but still very good. 2. Monk Jr. plays surprisingly well, too - not flashy, but quite swingy and seems to inspire his dad(especially on the 1972 tape). 3. Paul Jeffery is smoking - I didn't know he was such a good player. Much more aggressive and inpsired than Rouse in the late 60s with Monk. 4. The biggest surprise for me is the presence of Dave Holland on the 1972 tape -- his walking bass line really swings. Holland might have been the best bass player Monk could ever get. So, I should say this is not essential but an important recording, and it's worth releasing it under more appropriate circumstance (e.g. from Thelonious Records, possibly?) Yes, we've all let curiosity get the better of us in these types of things so you're not alone there. Thanks for the review, I'm even more curious now.

Well said, an excellent point expressed perfectly. -
Yea me too, but when I see it, I'll buy it.

I accept that wager. I don't actually accept that wager, I just really like the word wager. Wager.

I'd be very interested to hear this one myself, would be curious to hear Stan in this context, especially as it was a working group.

I always enjoy reading a listener's impression rather than a critic's. I will definitely get this. Yes Steve, your review was right on the money, this is a really nice little session, the cd actually has 2 extra tracks with a similar line-up from the album "The Jazz We Heard Last Summer". Joe Puma is another reason to get this album.

From the Mosaic site; "Great set with one mistake-please fix it This set is great. I own over 60 Mosaic sets, and that's not including Mosaic Selects & Singles. I've been waiting for years for Mosaic to do this set. Unfortunately they made a rare goof. They don't have all three takes of "Old Man Mose". They're listed in the discography and Dan Morgenstern comments on all three. There are two takes which begin with a trumpet solo and one at a slower tempo with a band arrangement in place of the trumpet solo, which they put on disc one twice instead of the the second take with a trumpet solo. Mosaic is generally very careful and thorough. Somebody dropped the ball during the mastering process. I hope they re-do disc one and send everybody who bought this set the new copy. Otherwise they did their usual high quality work on all aspects of this set containing some of the greatist recordings by the greatest musician of all time. The mistake is what caused me to rate this set four notes instead of five."

Proof, if any was needed, that there is in fact no God, either that, or he/she is a complete bollox. -
I always enjoy reading a listener's impression rather than a critic's. I will definitely get this. I had forgotten that Costa is on "Satan in High Heels"/"Blues for a Stripper", there's a great line up on that album as well., I'll have to dig it out.
-
Cheers for that Steve, I'm not the biggest fan of flute jazz myself but the whole group on this one in addition to Costa was making me very curious.
-
Talking of some of Costa's more obscure sideman dates, does anyone having any thoughts, positive or negative, on his date with Herbie Mann??? I have gone through the thread and didn't really notice any chat about it. AMG gives a good review and the line-up looks very good. I agree with what has been said by a few people regarding his arranging skills, his arrangements really are wonderful and quite inventive. I get the impression that he did a lot more arranging on his sessions than he got "official" credit for. Also, is there some sort of link between his piano playing style and the fact that he also plays vibes, some of his solos really sound like he's trying to play the vibes via the piano, either that or he really liked Jackie Byard.

I've been using AVG "free" for a long time now as well, it's really, really good and well, free. You can't go wrong. :tup AVG Free. -
Hey, I'd buy it if it came out, I'd buy "The Complete 1950's Recordings of Warne Marsh" if it came out, but that's not going to happen either.
-
It's a nice idea but I can't see it happening in the current climate, or even the climate of 5 to 10 years ago, when these kind of things seemed possible.

Well if they rebroadcast Newcastle and Middlesbrough, try and watch it, especially the first half, really open game and very enjoyable. The relegation battles are always very good. -
Amen to that, and I'm not sorry if it offends, it was just "Friends" set in a hospital.

One of the main reasons is that the World Cup has been kind of ruined by the fact that there are just too many teams/countries that qualify, it's more of a war of attrition. Although I didn't see West Ham-Stoke City, Stoke were in danger of being relegated so there would be some extra spice to the proceedings. Try and watch Newcastle and Middlesbrough on Monday night it will be very, very interesting, it's a local derby, ie 2 clubs from the north east of England and they are both in danger of being relegated which would a disaster for both clubs for different reasons, which ever team wins it has a very good chance of staying up. The battle to stay in the Premier League ...
