Cliff Englewood replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Re-issues
I can recommend this one if anybody is looking for more harp blues on the Delmark label, if you see it, pick it up, it's class. -
Has anyone seen or been chatting to skeith lately, I've sent him a couple of PMs but he doesn't seem to be replying???

Hip-O to release complete Little Walter Chess recordings
Cliff Englewood replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Re-issues
It's on their website now; Little Walter: The Complete Chess Masters (1950-1967). Be careful though, their website is as potentially damaging to your wallet as the Mosaic website. -
So did anyone actually purchase a SHM CD??? If so what are they like???

That's odd, unless I'm very much mistaken it's quite common over this side of the pond, I'll have a look... Thanks!! Looks like I was wrong, I had a quick look around town and all they had were "Best Of" type collections and I also saw this; which is basically 'Songs for Young Lovers', 'Songs for Swinging Lovers' and 'In the Wee Small Hours' very, very cheaply, it's available on Amazon.co.uk for £4.98!!! I think it was around €10 in Tower. Which pretty much confirms what was in the article that ghost of miles linked. Anyway, all is not lost, I've sent you a PM.

This is one of the hardest things to resist, it's such a problem I'm thinking of starting some kind of a 12 step program for it, but when it's one of your favorites.... oh well.... :rolleyes: Always liked this one; It's basically this one, with four Thad Jones tracks added;

I love Japanese re-issues.

He-he! Well, it's not like you were gonna sell the thing, right? Well not until I have listened to it at least once anyway, but there's just sooooooooo many discs, it's just sooooooooo intimidating. Did you ever crack this one open? I'm interested to know what you think. It is intimidating...like it should be kept in a safe... Not yet, no. But every time I go through the booklet and see the photo of Nappy Lamare, hell even when I see the name Nappy Lamare, I really want to go get stuck into it, but something smaller always seems to get my attention first. Nappy Lamare, Nappy Lamare, Nappy Lamare, Nappy Lamare, Nappy Lamare.......

Mingus "Complete Debut Recordings" set
Cliff Englewood replied to Shrdlu's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
upon a very quick glance on the mingus jazzdisco discography there shouldn't be any... there is some laporta in the small debut records story box... the stuff under his own name is now out in spain... there is one track from the alonzo levister debut album which sound pretty good, but the rest is not on cd, plus there are two or so tracks from vocalist ada moore's album on there which heavily feature laporta iirc (!) but these shouldn't be in the big box since mingus is not on them...(?) http://cgi.ebay.de/With-Tal-Farlow-Laporta...tem370160341731 wish i had the big box, but i did get some of the contained music on single cds lately, the john dennis album is great (are the solo tracks included?), as is the knepper/maini album... Thanks for that, I didn't know about the Ada Moore, it sounds interesting more than essential. I don't know why I have such a Mingus/LaPorta curiosity, and I don't know why I thought they did more together than this. -

First time listening to your show, listening right now in fact, great stuff. -
Mingus "Complete Debut Recordings" set
Cliff Englewood replied to Shrdlu's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Is there a track listing of this set anywhere?, I would be curious to see how many sessions with John LaPorta are on there or are there even any? -
I second that part of the emotion ... $25 - $30 per "high quality" LP seems to be normal these days... Mosaic's pricing is not unique. I agree, I didn't mean to imply that they were over-charging, just that in these harsh times is there really a demand for this kind of item at this kind of price??? I know the "It Club" double cd set might be slightly difficult to find in certin countries but it's available online for around a fifth of the price, you would have to really love this set and be a vinyl nut to spring for this bad boy.

11 minute unedited version of The Beatles Revolution
Cliff Englewood replied to dave9199's topic in Miscellaneous Music
That was pretty wild, cheers, but at around the 6 or 7 minute mark it's just a bit, well, repetitive. Thanks though. -
I don't listen to vinyl myself anymore but the Monk release sounds like a good thing, but $100???
-
O.K. not to hijack the thread or anything but I went looking for this release on amazon.co.uk and had a quick browse at their other recent Evans releases and found this, from the "JazzLips" label, perhaps a first, a double rip off!!!, the music from this, plus a few more songs from somewhere else; with the cover/art work from this; Now back to "Turn Out the Stars", would it turn someone who is indifferent to the Evans Trios into a believer???
