  1. B Goren I bought this myself months ago and have yet to listen to it, how is the sound?
  2. Now that story really is "The Blues."
  3. The Andrew Hill solo material is not very similar to the rest of his output, to my ears. It reminds me somewhat of Keith Jarrett's "Koln Concert" vs. Jarrett's Impulse material, although the comparison is not perfect. What I mean is that in both cases, the solo material is long, comparatively lyrical and not as focused as the rest of his output. Also, purely my opinion, in both the Hill and Jarrett solo recordings, the memorable moments are fewer and more far between, compared to their earlier small group recordings. Nicely put there Hot Ptah. Thats the kind of review I appreciate.

  5. No, that guy is in a great Frank Zappa song. It takes up all his time.
  6. Ditto to that, is this release going to be easily available or do you have to order it directly from the manufacturer?
  7. Anyone know anything about this one; Mel Lewis and Bill Perkins Encore 7003 Cheers.
  8. As the Perk in question is Bill Perkins, I would love to have this one myself, but didn't Perk always Play Prez, just alittle bit anyway. :D
  9. part of this collection: Hank Garland - Move! Love that cover so much, how many beautiful guitars does one man need.
  10. Just had to chime in and say, "Yep, they got me." I recently got back "into" listening to jazz, and I've been adding a lot of CDs from Amazon to fill some gaps in my collection. I had noted a couple of Blue Note titles that were CD-R and skipped them, but I missed the fact that Duke Pearson's Wahoo! was such a reissue. When I received the CD, I did note the fact that the booklet staples were straight through the middle of the front cover (not at the spine), but I wrote it off as a Blue Note manufacturing defect. Now I know it was an Amazon manufacturing defect! Oh well. I copied the disc straight to my iTunes library and then put the disc into storage, so hopefully the sound quality is fine, even if the CD-R has issues down the road. P.S. Thanks to everyone for some very entertaining reading in the time I've been lurking. Welcome!!!
  11. Well, I hadn't checked myself for a while, I suppose that doesn't seem to bad, but at the end of the day, when you have € 0 it still equals $ 0.
  12. Where the hell was I getting "House of Pain", ah Cypress Hill, the 90's, it seems so far away now. Thanks CJ.
  13. If I may quote "House of Pain", this is "Insane in the membrane, insane in the brain". Is there really a demand for all of these titles, things like Sherman Irby, "Big Mama's Biscuits"? WTF.
  14. He actually has a MySpace page though, with a great quote from the man himself; "Virtually every innovation in electronic music was made by me...an awesome statement, but true." It's stuff like this that first piqued my interest in him. And the fact that the guitarist he seemed to favour on most of his recordings was called Joe Cinderella.
  15. Thanks guys, sounds like I'll have to check him out. Is he comparable to anyone in particular or any style in particular, I can't seem to find sound clips anywhere. Sorry just found clips on AMG. Edit for AMG revelation.
  16. As this topic is on the subject of Gil Melle's Prestige recordings I may as well post the question here, does anyone have this or the recordings that it contains? According to AMG it's compiled from the albums Melle Plays Primitive Modern, Quadrama, Gil's Guests, and three extra cuts from an unfinished LP. What's it like as I have no Melle but I am very curious as he sounds like such a cool guy.
  17. Hey, I wouldn't let that stop you, it's never stopped Allen Lowe.
  18. Oh Allen, where do you find the time to be sooooooooo funny, what with the projects and all. You really are the living end.
  19. Interesting, but if those hilarious PMs you keep sending me are anything to go by, there's really very little to get to grips with. They're very academic, or maybe just pseudo-academic. Good luck with the project, you'll need it.
  20. No I was talking about Wynton Marsalis, you know the guy that called you an academic, and its only 8 o'clock here so I won't be going to bed for a while.
  21. I wasn't calling you the son-of-god, the Jesus was for me, I was calling you an academic, me and Wynton were just talking about it.
  22. Jesus, you don't have to be such an academic about it.
  23. I think that the saddest and most upseting aspect of this whole sorry "episode" is that, as it happened to Allen Lowe, this Board will never hear the fucking end of it.
  24. Hi Larry, I was going to just send you a PM on this but I thought I'd post my question as well, although I don't have your book, I have your liner notes to the Tristano, Konitz & Marsh Mosaic where you mention an unpublished 1973 interview with Warne Marsh by Terry Martin and John Litweiler. Is this interview available anywhere or would you know someone who would have either a hard or soft copy of it? Or does anyone else out there know anything about this interview? I was intrigued by Marsh's comment, "Lee would like to have Art's (Pepper) time", were there any other minor revelations like that in the interview? Cheers in advance...
