Looking for two Roland Kirk CDs
Cliff Englewood replied to bebopbob's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Got your payment in the mail this morning Bob, your CD is on it's merry way to you. -
Damn it Bixieland you're just going to make me un-seal this and listen to it, aren't you? I hope you're happy now. I really do.
-
I couldn't have said it better myself.
-
So it wasn't just me then.

Looks like a nice site. -
OMG Lux is gone? or OMG someone married Chuck? Eh, most definitely the second one. Seriously though, "Flamejob" is a really good album.
-
Wow! I haven't listened to it recently...but I'll be taking care of that tonight! Can't wait! Yea, I know, but is it just me or is the booklet on this one a bit more "fancy" than on other Mosaic's???

Review of Braxton's Mosaic Box

Allen, it's good to see you're using the time away from your "missions" productively. -
A-HA, well that would explain things, because Art is all over this session, very little Marty Paich at all. Great date though, glad I read this thread and dug it out.
-
Yea, I'd go along with that, I'm on my second spin of this now, it really is a Pepper date in all but name, lovely relaxed playing from the man. It may have been one of his first sessions after his first stay in prison. This is another one I would recommend if you don't have it;
-
I have it but haven't listened to it in ages. I got it when I was going through my own "must buy everything by Art Pepper" phase. I'll give it a spin tonight to refresh my memory but I do recall it has a great version of "Over the Rainbow".

I was asked by SONY to write a short overview of the material, and I wrote assuming that they would be printing the personnel, as they had supplied me with all recording details including matrix and issue numbers in a neatly formatted state. Obviously the personnel details are readily available but it would have improved the listening experience if the details had been in the booklet. Bruce Recording dates would have been more useful than personnel since EKE often recorded the same tune for different labels. You're right that once you know which version we're hearing the personnel is fairly easy to find. BTW Your notes are a fine introduction to the '30s band. Just curious if the recording dates/personnel info for this set was ever published anywhere? I asked a similar question earlier on and was directed here, Ellington Sessions, it's a bit overwhelming though.

Thanks for that, I'm almost on the fence on this one now, I am definitely considering thinking about maybe buying this one. -
I actually have a still sealed copy of that, still haven't got around to listening to it though.

Allen why so sensitive? I had no idea it was so easy, or fun, to get under your skin. I was just worried that by taking on all these "missions" and what with your A.D.D. you might be spreading yourself a bit thin. As you will be embarking on a letter writing campaign another "mission" you might consider is the "when to use capital letters mission". When you're writing to "grown ups" or "adults" it may help get you point across or even taken seriously, which for you would be a victory in itself. Also is this new "mission" going to cause another delay to the editing of the famous Wynton Marsalis footage? I really hope not as I think we've all been waiting long enough to see it as it is. Oh yeah and I'll see your juvenile "mother joke" and raise you, tell you mother/sister/daughter/that hideous mutt in your avatar, that I'm sorry I wasn't able to pay her for the other night, it's just I had nothing smaller than a 20 and next time I'm not wearing the S.S. uniform no matter how much it turns her on, those jodhpurs really chaff.
-
Just out of curiosity, if this is your "new" mission, what was your "old" mission, and did you complete it?

Word to the mutha-fuckin g. Sngry, I found a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better version, here.

Looking for two Roland Kirk CDs

I have a Japanese mini-lp version of "Roland Kirk Meets the Benny Golson Orchestra" if that's any good to you. I'll send a PM. -
Oops! I was asleep! And after all the trouble you caused, eg I now know who this Jason Mraz putz is. You should be ashamed of yourself. :D

Thelonious Monk: Live at Newport 1958-59.
Cliff Englewood replied to Cliff Englewood's topic in New Releases
Nice one, I think I was most interested in the tracks with Ellington, but I just might have to check it out. -
You're being a little vague there Sngry. :D So they are both of similar quality and vintage? I suppose I was wondering if "More Jazz From The East Village" was actually a recording of a gig rather than a gig in Peter Inds appartment. The only slight complaint I would make about "Release Record - Send Tape", and I mean slight, I or even we, should be extermely grateful for Peter Ind's foresight in recording Warne at that time, but on some of the shorter tracks, and I'm sure they were edited for a reason, it sounds as if Marsh is just getting warmed up and about to hit his stride and then it stops, again I'm sure there is a good reason for this, but it doesn't stop me from saying "no don't stop, keep going", sometimes I even say it out loud.

Your wish is my command. :D Complete Live at Montreux 1972 Track Listing 1. Captain Marvel 2. Day Waves 3. Windows 4. Times Lie 5. I Remember Clifford 6. Lush Life 7. La Fiesta 8. Desafinado 9. La Fiesta I have it but haven't really gone through it in depth yet, I remember that the bass was really loud on the first track but they seem to get better balance as the set goes on, IIRC. The last 2 tracks are from Poland in 1974, for some reason, not the same line up obviously.
