  1. The great thing about Allen is he's not bitter about anybody else's success, no matter how trivial that success may be. What the fuck difference does it make to anyone who wins a Grammy? Start your own blog Allen, you and Clem, it would be great.
  2. So have Concord re-issued everything that is on "Fearless Leader" as a single disc now? In 24bit re-mastering that is slightly "different"???
  3. The production values on The Onion are just fantastic, so real it's kinda not funny.
  4. Now I'm even more pleased I got the Moncur Select before it went OOP. This incident is also just adding fuel to the flames, that belong to fire of suspicion, that burns in the back of my mind as to just how much re-mastering actually goes on in a lot of these re-issues.(Could I be anymore pretentious? :D )
  5. One more technology based gem from the Onion... The Onion
  6. My favorite line is the very last one from the woman in the studio, sums up Apple fans to me. :D
  7. I'm afraid this is not their season either. I wouldn't be so sure this early in the season, although unless Liverpool beat United at Old Trafford, it is probably United's to lose after that.
  8. I do feel sorry for him, but at the same time, he is getting around £7.5 million for basically getting fired. Still it might just help Liverpool win the league this season, so I should be happy, I think he will be. Luiz Felipe Scolari sacked as Chelsea manager after meeting with Roman Abramovich
  9. I thought this one was just as good; The Onion.
  10. He-he! Well, it's not like you were gonna sell the thing, right? Well not until I have listened to it at least once anyway, but there's just sooooooooo many discs, it's just sooooooooo intimidating.
  11. Cheers for that John, I might just put this one on the back burner then.
  12. The Moncur Select appears to have disappeared, ie it is now OOP. Well it's no longer in last chance anyway.
  13. Yeah, right. I forgot the handful of cold gravel. Or even,
  14. Got your payment in the mail this morning Bob, your CD is on it's merry way to you.
  15. Damn it Bixieland you're just going to make me un-seal this and listen to it, aren't you? I hope you're happy now. I really do.
  16. I couldn't have said it better myself.
  17. So it wasn't just me then.
  18. OMG Lux is gone? or OMG someone married Chuck? Eh, most definitely the second one. Seriously though, "Flamejob" is a really good album.
  19. Wow! I haven't listened to it recently...but I'll be taking care of that tonight! Can't wait! Yea, I know, but is it just me or is the booklet on this one a bit more "fancy" than on other Mosaic's???
  20. Allen, it's good to see you're using the time away from your "missions" productively.
  21. A-HA, well that would explain things, because Art is all over this session, very little Marty Paich at all. Great date though, glad I read this thread and dug it out.
  22. Yea, I'd go along with that, I'm on my second spin of this now, it really is a Pepper date in all but name, lovely relaxed playing from the man. It may have been one of his first sessions after his first stay in prison. This is another one I would recommend if you don't have it;
  23. I have it but haven't listened to it in ages. I got it when I was going through my own "must buy everything by Art Pepper" phase. I'll give it a spin tonight to refresh my memory but I do recall it has a great version of "Over the Rainbow".
  24. I was asked by SONY to write a short overview of the material, and I wrote assuming that they would be printing the personnel, as they had supplied me with all recording details including matrix and issue numbers in a neatly formatted state. Obviously the personnel details are readily available but it would have improved the listening experience if the details had been in the booklet. Bruce Recording dates would have been more useful than personnel since EKE often recorded the same tune for different labels. You're right that once you know which version we're hearing the personnel is fairly easy to find. BTW Your notes are a fine introduction to the '30s band. Just curious if the recording dates/personnel info for this set was ever published anywhere? I asked a similar question earlier on and was directed here, Ellington Sessions, it's a bit overwhelming though.
