  2. Happy birthday, and many more in 7/4!
  3. A lovely story. Happy birthday to Ann.
  4. Has anyone here picked up the Charles Rosen box? Thoughts?
  5. At what bit rate (kbps) were the mp3s ripped?
  6. Review in WSJ: http://www.wsj.com/articles/completely-new-yet-pleasantly-familiar-jazz-review-of-ornette-colemans-new-vocabulary-system-dialing-recordings-1420672249?KEYWORDS=ornette (Or Google the title: Completely New yet Pleasantly Familiar)
  7. Just do a Google search. I searched for iTunes sun ra, and this is the first link that came up: https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/sun-ra/id72824
  8. I notice that Time Fades Away will be available from the Pono store: https://ponomusic.force.com/ccrz__CCPage?pageKey=product&oId=of:a262e2dbb1984bbda7c977367b1ed717&type=Album
  9. I see that they have Clare Fischer's One To Get Ready, Four To Go on Revelation available for download. Isn't that Jonathan Horwich's label?
  10. Yup, they were still popular but didn't carry the demographics CBS (and advertisers) wanted. Something similar happened recently with Longmire and A&E.
  11. Saw him once in a band led by Billy Higgins at the Jazz Standard in NYC around 2000. Billy was rallying at that point, and put together a band with Curtis Fuller and (I think) Don Sickler. The bass player was unannounced, but at the end of the show, Billy introduced each musician (by where they live in Brooklyn!). I was surprised to hear John Ore on bass. RIP.
  12. Thanks for the link to the NYT article; I posted it to my Facebook page.
  13. He was great on Gilmore Girls. The obits reminded me that he was in the movie-within-a-movie in Purple Rose of Cairo.
  14. Being a native New Yawkuh, I can understand what he means by "grinding intensity." Just go out in Manhattan any night. Tons of people, traffic, noise, intense people, the pace, competition...it can all be reflected in the music produced there. A more laid-back SoCal might not have related to all that intensity; like, what's the rush?
  15. I put up 2 calendars for 2015: the blues calender from Blues Image, and a calendar of Marvel Comics covers (to relive my youth).
  16. To all my friends here, I hope you have a happy, safe, rewarding and fun 2015!
  17. It is keystoning. But it seems a problem that software is uniquely suited to solve - much more so than trying really hard to make sure the lines are perfectly parallel while taking the picture. I know software can do it, per my OCR app. There must be a photo app or software that has this capability.
  18. Not to hijack the thread but if you want to get deep into the disco groove, this is another great compilation:
  19. Sometimes I like mine better.
  20. Every so often, I like to photograph an album cover to import into iTunes. The problem is usually one of perspective: after taking the photo, I find that the album's top horizontal line might be a little shorter than the bottom horizontal line, with the two vertical lines not being exactly parallel. There is also usually a slight "fish-eye" effect owing to limitations with the iPhone's camera. I'm looking for a good, hopefully inexpensive program for the Mac or iOS that can correct these distortions. I know it can be done because I have OCR apps for the iPhone that will do this; unfortunately, because the app does this to help prepare the image for OCRing, they don't look great as photos. I spent a lot of time last night poking around Photoshop Elements, Preview and iPhoto, but none of them have this functionality. Can anyone recommend a program or app?
  21. Article on the Dial set in today's WSJ: http://www.wsj.com/articles/new-label-for-a-new-sound-1419982709?KEYWORDS=new+label (or Google the title "New Label for a New Sound")
  22. Looks like Royal Pains was on USA. A lot of these "unknown" shows were probably on cable. I just figure I can't both not care to know all the shows on now, and be upset not to know all the shows. Most of them are probably the SOS, or a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing. And I'm thankful not to have to run across the Kardashians.
  23. If you're a child of the Sixties... Hogan's Heroes - complete series - $62.96 Gilligan's Island - complete series - $24.99 The Wild Wild West - complete series - $66.61 Get Smart - complete series - $60.50 I Dream of Jeannie - complete series - $29.61 Bewitched - complete series - $28.99 Gidget - complete series - $5.19 The Addams Family - complete series - $24.99 The Munsters - complete series - $37.49 The Dick Van Dyke Show - complete series (blu-ray) - $58.99
  24. That was great. Loved the ending. Thanks for posting.
  25. RIP.
