  1. It doesn't surprise me, Jim. But you can console yourself with the thought that it was probably from some old person's collection and was found while cleaning out their house. Texas, as you well know, has large areas that were founded by German immigrants, so it wouldn't surprise me that this disc was in someone's collection (and was circumspect enough about it that they didn't want others to know they had it). If I had found it at a garage sale, I would have bought it just to have the pleasure of breaking it.
  2. I'm not sure I'd need a splitter. The Emotive pre-amp has 3 outputs for a subwoofer: left, right and summed. The F12 (from a picture of the back of the unit that someone posted on Amazon) has a left and right in the "From Receiver" section, and there's also a "sub in" jack on the right under 2 dials. So it looks like I could use either 2 cables for left and right, or one cable from "summed" to "sub in." The Amazon product page for the F12 also shows a Mediabridge 15 ft. subwoofer cable for $9.99.
  3. When I was in college in the mid-70's, Lonnie Liston Smith was very popular; truly a crossover artist.
  4. I'm seriously considering the Bic F12; Amazon has it for $185.22, and I guess I'd need a cable. I do appreciate the insight you've provided. Besides the characteristics of the TDLs you've mentioned above, I'm also using them in a room with a thick carpet; probably sucks up all the bass right there.
  5. I think I'll try a subwoofer; my TDLs just don't have the oomph on their own. The sound is very clean, though. Do you use one subwoofer or two?
  6. I've owned this for awhile: Cirkus
  7. Another vote for Journey To The One.
  8. The speaker cables are, indeed, plugged into the top red and black inputs on the speakers, rather than the bottom. Is that a bad thing? I've never heard that before.
  9. OK, thanks. I plan to call Emotive today with some questions. I wonder whether there are some crossover settings that can be tweaked to give my speakers more bass (maybe the preamp is expecting a subwoofer that isn't there).
  10. I guess you could rate it by whose estates still rake in the big bucks. As for Marty Feldman and Captain Beefheart, if not pop icons, let's just consider them role models.
  11. No Charlie Chaplin? No Captain Beefheart?
  12. I didn't get the XDA-2. I got the XPA-200 amp, XSP-1 preamp, and DC-1 DAC. Set it up yesterday. So far so good...nice clean sound, though bass response is underwhelming (which probably reflects my TDL speakers...I'll probably need to get a subwoofer sometime). Ordering was a snap; they were very nice to deal with. They're having a great sale right now.
  13. Thanks; should arrive today. Your posts influenced me, Scott.
  14. The Dave's Picks 2015 subscription is now available on dead.net. The first 2015 release will be Winterland 2/24/74.

  18. I had the "Lonely Too Long" 45 in the picture sleeve, and remember feeling so naughty because you could see a bare (porcelain) breast (same picture as shown below).
  19. Sorry about the price. When I got the big box, it was a lot cheaper; I didn't notice the price has shot up since then.
  20. Happy birthday, and many more!

RIP. A giant in the music; I can't imagine how many listeners he brought along to jazz.
  22. It was great growing up as a kid in the Sixties.
  23. One Amazon reviewer says these are included in the Sony/RCA box.
  24. Jim, did Red's comping behind you make you play any better, or realize different places to go in your solos?
  25. Excellent! Thank you, Lon. I bit the bullet today and ordered some new pieces from Emotiva: pre-amp, amp, and DAC. Other than my turntable, probably the first new pieces of stereo equipment I've bought in 2 decades or more. Kind of excited about it, so thought it was time to reexamine this jumper issue.
