Complete Alberta Hunter on Columbia. Perhaps better suited for a Select. Still, Sony put out a video of Live At The Smithsonian; perhaps that could be included.

When the first album came out, Sire ran a full-page ad in Rolling Stone quoting from reviews the album got. Most were positive, but one from a French paper was "Merde...je detest ce disque." The first album was classic; later ones were echoes of the first. I saw them at Brooklyn College around 1979, and was convinced that the "one-two-three-four" countdown before each song was independent of the beat the song actually started at. RIP.

Today, online concert footage archive Music Vault is releasing 17,318 videos on itsYouTube, give or take a few. "There are probably a couple that will fall out because we still need to go through and scrub for quality," says Bill Sagan (no relation to Carl), CEO of Wolfgang's Vault, the music and memorabilia archive that includes Music Vault along with Concert Vault, Pastemagazine.com, andDaytrotter.com. A Thought Regarding Universal now owning Blue Note

It looks like Roulette and Colpix went to Warners. I've always been interested in the Colpix material - I might get that Nina. -
A Thought Regarding Universal now owning Blue Note
mjzee replied to margolbe's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Just saw this interesting new release notice on Amazon. The cover has an Impulse logo, but the label in the listing says Blue Note. -
"Paul Joseph Horn was born in New York City on March 17, 1930, and began studying piano at 4, clarinet at 10 and saxophone at 12. He received a bachelor’s degree from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Ohio and a master’s from the Manhattan School of Music." Yup, this is the stuff I read in every biography. I suspect there's a story there re his family. I hasten to add that I know none of this is my business. Just curious, that's all.

Advice on new laptop: MacBook or other?
mjzee replied to David Ayers's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
David, I recommend you buy an AppleCare extended warranty, because it comes with free tech support for the life of the warranty. That includes expert advice on how to do things, as well as troubleshooting problems. I was on the phone with them for 3 hours today, trying to solve an iTunes problem (we succeeded). -
I did some Google searches on Horn (Wikipedia, etc.) and find it interesting that all bios gloss over his early life. All that's said is he was born in NYC. From the bios, you'd think he was born in Oberlin. I'll bet his family history is interesting...a lot of these new-age guys try to put their past behind them. Just a hunch.

Question for discographers: what is the title of a CD?
mjzee replied to David Ayers's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Tri-Centric would probably know the disc's "official" title. -

Advice on new laptop: MacBook or other?
mjzee replied to David Ayers's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
There are big improvements coming in the next upgrades to both the desktop and iOS operating systems. Rush gave a rundown on them yesterday (nothing political here): http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2014/07/03/new_apple_features_to_tempt_your_mom -
I feel bad for JLH, seeing that Flute Fever is included in the release.

I know what you mean, but, without hearing it, I figure it can't be that good. If it was really worth it, they would've included it on the Mosaic. Having said that, can anyone report back on any of the new alternate takes included in this series? Worth it, or just warm-ups? I got five in the series (Tippin' The Scales, Z.T.'s Blues, Easy Living, Boogaloo, and Memphis To New York Spirit) but don't know when I'll be listening to them. I also got Sonny Rollins's Alfie.

For those who do eMusic, they have the complete Oscar Peterson "Exclusively For My Friends" on MPS for $6.99: eMusic

CDJapan now has these listed.

According to Dusty Groove, the bonus tracks are alternate takes of Jubilee Shout, My Ship and Brother Tom. Note that the last 2 are also on the Mosaic.

Dylan usually takes a hands-off approach to collectibles - he didn't object to the recent auction of the electric guitar he used at Newport.

I had a real asshole puckering moments a few months ago where my iMac simply refused to eject a disc I had ripped. I had to restart it twice before it finally spit out the goods. That sucked. If it's a tray, it's a little easier to deal with. Pop the cover, and manually push the tray out. Slot load? That's a whole new problem. And not a pleasant one. I'd recommend getting the external Samsung drive, if only for future peace of mind. It's really an elegant solution. There's only one wire, because it's powered by USB, but it does need to be plugged into the computer and not to a hub.
