I went to see Captain Beefheart in December 1970 at Ungano's, a small club on Manhattan's Upper West Side, when I was 15 (my brother took me). We walked into the small lobby, and there was the Captain in the lobby, smiling, talking to fans, signing autographs. Words cannot describe. I searched frantically for a piece of paper, approached shyly, and he autographed the paper for me. I still have it, laminated.

I have it running, but have never had to "use" it.

Yet another annoyance: When ripping CDs, iTunes first asks you to review the rip settings (kbps, etc). In the old version, you chose your settings once and then all you needed to do was press Import CD. iTunes is now asking you to confirm these settings for each disc you rip. There is no "don't ask me this again" option.

I think you are just doing this incorrectly. Don't select ALL the tracks, just select ONE. You can't expect to change the song title if you select more than one track. Then you will have the next/previous buttons available, and you can edit as many tracks as you wish without leaving the 'Get Info' screen. I don't believe there has been a modification, it has always worked this way. Thanks for that. I see that when I'm in the Artists tab and then click on an album, the screen "slides down" so I can see the tracks on that album, and then, if I highlight a track and call up its information, I then can see the "Next" button. However, my finding came through this way: do a search for an artist, then choose that artist in the search results. The artist's albums then show. If I highlight a track on an album and then call up its information (Command-I on the Mac), I do NOT see the "Next" button. So the program acts inconsistently.

I've found another annoyance in the new version. It used to be that, when you'd highlight all the tracks on an album, there was a "Next" button to allow you to edit one song after another. That "Next" button is now gone. To edit song titles, you now need to "Get Info" on each one in succession. A major pain, and it's hard to see why this modification was done.

Right, but he could have dedicated a piece to Bird. Instead, it's a "homage," but I'm not hearing any direct connection.

Is anyone here familiar with the various releases from the Boston Tea Party 1970 gig? I've had one side of a bootleg LP for many years (Rattlesnake Shake/Underway/Tiger/The Green Manalishi), and was always amazed at its ferocity. The entire series of gigs seems to have received some legitimate releases over the years, but I was wondering which is "the one" to get. Someone on Amazon recommended this: but was wondering if this 3-disc set is better; it's obviously more comprehensive, but the Amazon reviewer said the mix isn't as good: I prefer the longer psychedelic guitar freakout numbers to the shorter rockabilly type numbers. Thanks.

Does anyone know why Lewis titled the track "Homage to Charles Parker"? The music doesn't sound at all like Bird. Perhaps he knows someone else named Charles Parker, but then there's the album cover:

I started playing with it last night. Like you, I'm annoyed by the lack of Cover Flow, because I enjoy looking at a large album cover when I listen to a track. However, I found that clicking on the album cover at the top of the screen causes a large window containing the album graphic to open, which amounts to much the same thing.

How many Monk Columbias are there that aren't on any of the boxes? Off the top of my head, there's Big Band in Concert, Miles and Monk at Newport, and the soundtrack to Straight No Chaser. Are there any others?

I had been looking for a good collection of Benny Goodman's work. This one, part of the Sony Euro "The Real..." series, fits the bill. With shipping, it's $5.82 from Amazon, for 3 discs. Sound quality to my ears is very good. It lacks a discography, though; anyone know of one? Also, CDDB returned some tracks as "Rechanneled stereo version," but I don't hear it.
