  1. Amazon cancelled my Casals box order, saying it's no longer available. Odd response, since (as they acknowledge), it's available from 4 different Amazon resellers. For much more money, of course.
  2. Gary Giddins wrote a nice appreciation of Brubeck in his book Weather Bird. You can read most of it here: Giddins
  3. Interesting. I have the complete RCA material on a box from BMG-RCA (before the Sony merger). I've never been impressed with the sound on the RCA box.
  4. Really? My box says "complete." Unless it's outside the parameters 1962-1973...
  5. My box just might be bigger - the CDs come in jewel cases. And, you know, they're harder too!
  6. I've had this box for years. It's Horowitz's complete Masterworks recordings, but not in their original jackets. It's a well-done box, with easily-readable liner notes, and it's currently only $89.99: Amazon
  7. Who else was in the band?
  8. What's the issue date for the Storyville box?
  9. Interesting. And the Russian Legends live box that I got for $53.99 is now $179.99 at the cheapest. Anyway, I ordered the Vivaldi at the low price, so we'll see if it ships. My Casals box is still on backorder.
  10. This one looks interesting: 40 CDs for $27.08. I like Vivaldi, so I may pick it up.
  11. Higher than expected or lower than expected?
  12. The Denver 73 Road Trips + bonus disc arrived today.

  15. There have been many discussions on this board about Mac vs. PCs. The Mac mini costs $699, and there's really no discounting - that's the price. You can probably find better deals on PCs - faster processors, more RAM, larger hard drives and the such. In my experience, with a Mac you have software and hardware that works, and far fewer worries about viruses. The peace of mind factor is worth the difference in price.
  16. Mingus: Mingus Ah Um, Mingus Dynasty, Tijuana Moods - $9.68 from an Amazon reseller: Mingus Brubeck: Jazz Goes To College, Brubeck Plays Brubeck, Gone With The Wind, Brandenburg Gate Revisited, Jazz Impressions Of New York - $15.81 from an Amazon reseller: Brubeck
  17. Get a Mac Mini, pair with your existing peripherals (or spring for a larger monitor). Your troubles will go away.
  18. I think the trick is exposing yourself to music and growing that way. More and varied music is better than less. Hearing a piece of music is better than reading about it in a book but not being able to hear it. Once you hear it, you can form your own opinions and make your own connections. You could even then disagree with the person who wrote the book.
  19. Has there been a thread like this before? If so, please merge. This one might be more Prestige than Blue Note:
  20. We use TuneIn radio; my wife loves it.
  21. I have a Mac, so the actual location might vary on a PC, but do something like Preferences... then Advanced... then under Network there's a button to clear your cache. You might also consider adding RAM to your desktop. It's probably dirt cheap, and easy to do yourself.
  22. Did you get to Organissimo.org/forum with no problems? Then I'm not sure it's due to malware. If you have an old computer, you might be running out of memory; that can do all sorts of weird things. Reboot, clean out your cache, see what happens. Also, which browser do you use? IE6 is extremely buggy at this point; try switching to Firefox or Google Chrome.
  23. Agreed. And there was something about the audible compression necessary to squeeze 32 minutes onto an LP side that adds to the moody, mysterious nature of the music.
  24. Soul People is available here; it doesn't include "People":
