  1. Moovin and Groovin, Us Three and into Headin South now, which is the usual trio plus Ray Baretto on congas.
  2. No, I wouldn't say so. There are 24 pages, plus Track credits, which include original release, personnel and recording date and place. The text is mostly about Kerouac himself and speaks of how he loved jazz and admired and enjoyed his bebop contemporaries, but also (surprisingly) their forerunners like Roy Eldridge, Lester Young and Lionel Hampton. There are no pictures in the booklet. The one I included in my post showed up (I don't know why, maybe beat generation or something like that) when I searched for the cover, and I liked it enough to place it there. The Kerouac readings are about the early history of bop and their musicians, which he frequently mentioned in his novels.
  3. It's only one CD, but it's presented in a boxset with a booklet. So like a one disc boxset. Or at least I like to look at it that way. With Roy Eldridge, Miles, Getz, Dizzy, Monk, Lester Young and many others. Plus Kerouac readings.
  4. Yes, it's a very good set. I love the McLean, Moncur, Hutcherson combination. And One Step Beyond and Destination Out are two gems.
  5. Select #1. They started a very good collection with that one, which sadly has come to a standstill.
  6. I just discovered that in the booklet to Larry Young's ORTF sessions, which I consider one of the releases of the year, there are many Leloir pics. One of which with Woody Shaw and Larry Young.
  7. I also like that tune. And I also never considered myself a fan.
  8. Exactly the disc I'm listening to. Well I love small group swing, so it's no surprise I like this.
  9. I like her The Rubaiyat and Dorothy's Harp. Both from 1969. All the stuff I have by her. On Argo and Cadet, respectively.
  10. Very good that Christine Lutz!
  11. The Boogie Woogie set is really good. I like it a lot.
  12. A nice set including a 1945 session with Bird and Dizzy and the classic Red Norvo trio with Tal Farlow and Charles Mingus.
  13. Terrific news. I discovered her in the mid-2000s and have listened to her since then.

    Red Norvo

I'd second that recommendation without a hesitation.
  15. Yes, it's a very good set. One of my favourites too.
  16. Spurred in interest by another recent thread here I pulled out this box and was reminded of how much I enjoy fifties Mobley. And the company he kept.
  17. Yes, I liked the movie and still like it. Weber was obsessed with the Young Chet image, but he showed a realistic portrait of the artist.
  18. The Braziliance project was also a very good one. With Brazilian guitarist Laurindo de Almeida and Bud Shank you can't expect otherwise.
  19. The record Paul Secor linked to in his post is a compilation of his three first albums, which used to be out also as an EMI (I don't know who's publishing this). These are some of his finer albums, although of course Chega de Saudade is also on it.
  20. Yes, I would also recommend Joao Gilberto. He was kind of like the beginning of everything.
  21. Sorry, then. I always assumed they were the same person.
  22. And he was a reputed sound engineer too, who recorded many bop or early 50s sessions for Blue Note at the WOR studios in NYC before Rudy Van Gelder.
