I bought all the remastered versions released a few years ago (I only had the 4CD sampler), but I do not find the mastering very good. Most of the time, I preferred McMaster's mastering for the box set. I didn't have the 1990's CDs to compare them to.

Chet Baker in Paris 1955-1956, the Barclay sessions
Claude replied to brownie's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Here's the track list. While it's a good idea not to split sessions between discs, it seems silly not to combine two or three 20-25 minute sessions onto one CD. http://www.jazzecho.de/CDA.jsp?objectId=56...il=060249838397 -

alfred brendel to retire at end of next year
Claude replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Classical Discussion
His name is spelled Brendel, and he will retire at the end of next year. -
I think deletion will only empty the entry in the database, but the member numbers will stay the same. You'll remain the eternal second ...

I'm not in Paris, but I watch french media daily. As far as I know, the riots are limited to certain streets, and I'm pretty sure the authorities would not allow them to spread to main communication lines. Police has been heavily reinforced. This evening, there have been no incidents so far. So I suggest your girlfriend should just travel as planned.

I love those two albums as well. I can hear some influence from early 70's Pink Floyd (in a less bombastic fashion) and some David Sylvian (another of my favourite 80's pop artists) in them.

I'm ok with the no supermarket or airport music part, but it should be extended to a year at least.

Thanks Ray It seems that you've woken them up. From the home page:

Attention Vinyl Freaks: Bitches Brew in Last Chance
Claude replied to Ron S's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Maybe it's because there is no competent vinyl pressing plant left in the US Despite the fact that I love the music in this set, have recently started buying vinyl again, and the favourable exchange rate, I will pass on this set. The SACD version of the main album and the CD set for the additional material is enough for me. -
Thanks HW! for the review. Nice to see that there was more than one Organissimo forum member at the concert I agree with everything you wrote. The concert seemed like a rehearsal at times, and there were embarassing moments. I don't know the material they played on the CD released 20 years ago, but I was surprised that most of the compositions they played here weren't free at all. The concert was almost a JATP with free jazz musicians, except that there wasn't that much soloing. Guitarist Monette Sudler played a rather cheesy ballad, with backing harmonies by the horns. They played "Manteca" and a Basie-style swinging tune. Not really what one would expect from these names. Grachan Moncur III, who appeared frail and left the stage a couple of times during the concert, didn't play much. Khan Jamal didn't really find his space in the group. As the enemble play was always shaky, the best moments were solos by Odean Pope, Sonny Simmons and Sabir Mateen. Trumpeter Rasul Siddik (not mentionned in the concert announcement) played fine, but in my view his style didn't really fit the setting. The concert closed with an improvisation by Sunny Murray and Bobby Few, Khan Jamal and Henry Grimes joining in at the end. The best thing about this event was to see these legends together on stage, but musically it was just a missed opportunity. I'm confident film director Antoine Prum will be able do make a good documentary out of the concert, the rehearsals and interviews, but I doubt the concert alone can be decently released on CD.

I'm too tired now post a complete review, but this concert was a huge disappointment. I wonder what they will release on CD.

Wow! When reading the thread title, I first thought 25.000 was the total number of posts for all members. Congrats Jim!

Yeah that was so stupid. You'll do better next time.

The best answer is to complain to AMG that they are linking to scam ads normally used on free porn or warez sites (not that I ever browse such sites )

DRM = digital rights management DRM-free means there is no copyprotection or other technically imposed restriction. The files can be played on any computer or portable player, without the device saying "you can't play it, because the files are limited for use on one PC or one player only" (as is the case with DRM-protected files)

Should Rooster keep his current Avatar???
Claude replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Funny pic, but 3,8 MB ! This won't affect the forum server, as the avatar is linked from Flickr, but anyone who opens a thread with your avatar will be downloading this huge GIF file. -
The ad only shows up occasionally on AMG, so you can't quickly check if your browser is affected by it.

Do you think these will catch on in America?

Safer than a chinese SUV Chinese 4x4 gets zero in safety test -
You probably encountered a new pop-up ad that shows up irregularly when browsing the Allmusic site. I posted about on the SH forum: http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showpost...mp;postcount=39 My Opera browser wasn't able to block it, although it has a pop-up blocker. When it shows up, the ad page replaces the allmusic page I'm viewing.

SHM = "Super High Material CD" http://pub.ne.jp/oboe/?entry_id=1011905 (as translated by Google ) I personally can't hear a difference between an XRCD and CD-R copy of it (if the XRCD was ripped carefully), so I don't expect anything from a better CD material. I'll get the Gerry Mulligan "Night lights" CD, maybe the remastering is better than the 1990 domestic reissue.

Sorry, I thought the text on the Acoustic Sounds website contained new information, but it doesn't. The big difference between the popular OJC (Riverside, Prestige, contemporary, ...) material and the Blue Note material is that, as far as digital reissues go, the Blue Notes were often unsatisfactory soundwise. First a dull Ron McMaster remaster, then a botched RVG reissue. Blue Notes were almost never reissued on XRCD, SACD or other audiophile formats. Just a handful of MFSL and DAD reissues. So this 45rpm series would be for many fans the first occasion to hear the music in top quality (judging from the 45rpm OJC series). There were the Classic Records LPs of course, but most of them are now OOP, and I don't know how good they sound. But I would have preferred high quality remasters in a modern format (SACD, DVD-A, hi-rez downloads, ...) As far as the OJC stuff goes, there are already good CD reissues available (often the cheap OJC CD itself), so the 45rpm sets are not that essential.
