Just to complete my evaluation posted above, when I did not have the 2003 CD: I like the additional clarity of the "First Edition" CD, which has been remixed from the 3-track tapes and sounds different for that reason. I prefer it over the Classic Records gold disc.

It's actually a faux-pas to use that line... I am puzzled why you feel that way. I like the song for what it is.... a song. I am not making a political statement. I do not condone the aggression that Germany displayed over two world wars. I am talking about music and music only. No problem with that. It's one of the few national anthems composed by a musician who is famous for many other compositions. I was only talking about the words in the 1st stanza ("Deutschland über alles"), which is not used anymore, because of it's historic context (explained in my quote above). If you sing that line in Germany today, you're making an political extremist statement. It's sad that the german anthem is still know internationally for this line, which is not part of the official anthem anymore. There have been discussions after the german reunification to adopt a new anthem, but it never went very far.

I haven't heard any version of this album except for the MP3s from Emusic, but this new remix and remaster seems to be rather controversial, according to the extreme opinions expressed in this thread on the Steve Hoffman forum: http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=93596

I mainly use Opera. On the laptop it has the advantage that the touchpad buttons can be used as a "Back" button (hold right button, click left button). On the desktop PC, with it's configurable 4 or 5 button mouse, this isn't a necessary feature, but on the laptop it's essential, to avoid having to point to and click on the Back button. Firefox doesn't seem to support this, at least not in the standard configuration. -

Microsoft just scored a huge coup. The Mozilla code being open source, they programmed their own version of Firefox, that will likely become the standard browser on office computers (large companies don't trust free software). Get the brand new Microsoft Firefox 2007 Professional Edition here: http://www.msfirefox.com -
Wow, that's some terrible webdesign

What HDTV programs do you have in the US? In Europe, it is still extremely limited. HDTV stations are certainly not the reason to get a HD screen today. I use the TV mainly for DVDs and I will buy a 46" after Christmas (I currently have a 10 year old 30" TV). I won't buy a BluRay or HD-DVD player given the limited number of titles and the uncertain future of both formats. Maybe in a year a two.

The examples given by Teasing the Korean are sessions from 1962 and later, which I wouldn't call early stereo recordings. Maybe the recordings Reinier means are the more experimental stereo recordings from the mid 50's, like the 1955 live session in the Tristano/Konitz/Marsh box set, where the stereo effect seems rather diffuse. One of the greatest sounding early stereo Atlantic sessions is "Modern Jazz Quartet at the Music Inn, Vol. 2" from 1958. But there are other sessions with Coltrane, Mingus or the MJQ which don't sound nearly as good, what could also be due the the condition of the master tape.

The article in Le Monde (in french) gives more information about the problem: http://www.lemonde.fr/web/article/0,1-0@2-...1-835781,0.html The main IT news sites haven't reported much on this, except for an article on Slashdot: http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/11/18/2030247

Yes, I read that. And there were only two bids, so it must have been two guys who absolutely wanted to complete their MFSL collection. But this label fetishism is crazy, since there is nothing special about the disc itself. I don't think the buyer cares about the Bach violin partitas.

Hi, I haven't heard the 80th birthday concert, but from post-1962 Russell I can recommend especially "At Beethoven Hall" (MPS, 1965, available as japan imports) and also "Electronic Sonata for Souls Loved by Nature 1968" and "Vertical Form VI" (1977) (both on Soul Note).

My comment on BiTorrent was general. I was under the impression that Matthew meant he had to convert the files because they come from BitTorrent.

MP3 is a file format BitTorrent is a file distribution network Over BitTorrent, you can download and share MP3s, movies or whatever. No need to convert the files. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bittorrent

Yeah, but if you are never willing to sell your valuable OOP Mosaic sets, they are as good an "investment" as your wife's shoe collection
