The easy way to support the organissimo forums...
Claude replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Forums Discussion
Thanks Jim, but I still don't understand what to do to make sure my purchases give you credits, as I am a regular customer and visit their site almost every day. Maybe it needs some special procedure, as I can imagine that they only want to give credits for new customers, not for the regulars like me. -
I agree that the international shipping costs are too high, but if you buy a couple of their CDs at a time and choose surface mail, it's not more expensive than other US CD stores. As I wrote above, when I chose surface mail for Mosaic orders in the past, it arrived almost as quickly as with airmail. My next Mosaic order will be the J.J and Charles Lloyd Singles and the Tolliver Select. Maybe also the Ellington Single.

What happens if a search for a CD through the search function on this forum, but I only add it to my CD Universe wishlist to purchase it later? That's what I usually do. Will Organissimo still receive it's share when I finally buy it, or does this only happen when the CD is added to the shopping basket (and bought) immediately? -

Would it be possible to integrate a CD Universe banner next to the CD search function, so that people know where they are being directed? -

That's a great idea, Jim. I buy almost half of my CDs at CD Universe (the rest in european stores). -
I always choose surface mail, which is usually as fast as airmail.

Does anyone have any idea why Sony licensed the albums they own to Mosaic instead of reissuing them themselves? The remastering was done by Sony's Mark Wilder at Sony Studios.
-
The situation is a bit more complex but also far less hopless than the french organ builder quoted in the article explains. But it's always good for EU bashing. http://www.pipes4organs.org/intro.html

I always keep a variety of music on my player, also knowing that I won't feel the need to listen to all of my Miles or Coltrane albums or all of my Mosaic sets in the same week. So there is no point of carrying all of them with me. You also have to be aware of the technological limitations. AFAIK there are currently no 100GB hard drives in the 1.8" format that Ipods uses, and when they become available they will be quite expensive. Fuji, the market leader for 1.8" drives, hopes to be able to launch a 120GB drive by September 2007. That's the current capacity of the biggest laptop hard drives (2.5").
-
Bertrand, Why do you want so much capacity on your Ipod? 100gb would make it thicker and heavier. What's the point of having more than 1200 hours of music on a portable player, isn't 300 hours (20GB) enough? I have a 20GB player (iRiver H320) and never felt the need for more capacity. 10GB would probably be enough too. I use it for 3-4 hours per day and replace the albums I have listened to once a week.

Altantic (Collectables) CD sale on oldies.com
Claude replied to Daniel A's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I've stayed away from the Collectables label since I bought a number of Atlantic and RCA reissues at a previous sale some years ago. The sound quality of many Atalantic reissues was rather poor: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=6857 During that order, I also had some problems with the payment. First they charged too much on my credit card. After I emailed them, they reimbursed but again miscalculated the amount, to their favor. I don't suspect them doing it on purpose, because it was only about a few dollars. At the end everything was correct, but it took some emails to get it right. Hopefully the CDs and the store have improved now. -
Why is the Bear Family box so expensive ($250 for 11 CDs on CD Universe)? http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...ic&frm=lk_jzmtz

Thanks Daniel and Hans, I always provide Hiroshi the exact catalog numbers also for jazz CDs, as there are often multiple versions available. I will ask him when I make my next order.

Does anyone know if Hiroshi Tanno also sells classical and pop CDs?

Bargains on Basie Mosaic, Black Saint/Soul Note and classical
Claude replied to David Ayers's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Does anyone have experience with them replying to emails? I've sent two emails to them this week (the Yahoo email address indicated on the website) asking for the shipping cost to Luxembourg (for 10 CDs) but haven't received a reply yet. -
But not as a "MUST HAVE" SACD, that Scott is looking for

I can't recommend the Wynton Kelly SACD: http://www.sa-cd.net/showtitle/1610

The redtrumpet.com domain now belongs to Music Direct. Someone on the Steve Hoffman forum wrote that Music Direct also bought some of the Red Trumpet inventory.

My most spectacular jazz SACDs, when it comes to improvement over the previous CD versions, are: - Art Pepper: Modern Jazz Classics - Gil Evans: And Ten - Bill Evans Trio: Sunday At The Village Vanguard - Bill Evans Trio: Waltz For Debby - Sonny Clark Trio - Miles Davis - Big Fun (the SACDs were mastered by Seth Foster and sound much smoother than Mark Wilder´s CD mastering in the Complete Bitches Brew Sessions box) My SACDs with the best absolute sound quality are: - Bob Belden: Black Dahlia - Henry Kaiser & Wadada Leo Smith (Sky Garden) - Yo Miles! and Upriver (two 2-disc sets) As far as the Sony SACDs go, I didn't notice a huge difference between Mark Wilder's CD and SACD masterings, which both sound great.
-
Have you compared the CD and SACD layer of the discs? This will give you a fairer comparision than with an earlier CD release, which uses a different mastering. I'm a SACD fan myself (my collection), but in my experience many Fantasy SACDs are topped by earlier CD versions from DCC or even XRCD/K2. Unfortunately jazz SACD releases have almost stopped. But for a newcomer there is a lot to be found in the Sony SACD catalogue. I'm mainly buying classical SACDs now.

Can laptop audio be played through a stereo receiver?
Claude replied to Brownian Motion's topic in Audio Talk
Try the $5 cable first, and if you're not happy with the sound quality you can always check for an external USB sound card. I have two laptops, a 2001 Dell Latitude for work and a 2005 IBM Thinkpad R51 at home. With both of them, the sound of the Line out is just good enough for movies, but not really for music. There is noticable hiss when listening with earbuds/headphones, and when I use the laptop for browsing the internet while listening to music, there are interferences between the graphics and sound chips, which create noises in the laptop speakers and the line out signal. That also happens with the sound chip of my desktop PC, BTW. Only when I don't touch the laptop (when watching a movie), the sound is "clean". -
$76.300 for a 1955 Fender Stratocaster http://cgi.ebay.com/1955-Fender-Stratocast...1QQcmdZViewItem

Welcome! This is exactly the right subforum to ask this question. According to this Fantasy discography (use the "Search on page" function of your browser to look for "birds"), the material from the LP "Five Birds and a Monk" wasn't reissued on CD, but alternate takes from the same sessions were released on the CD "Ballads by Five" http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/...ads+By+Five.htm
