Man I haven't spun that Herman LP in a long time. Was a good one. I think Rhodes is used on "Fiesta." Sure, probably Rhones, but the liners identify it as "electric piano" (maybe it was a copyright issue).

Not sure, but I think this band actually preceded the original RTF. Chick contributes an essay to the reissue that delineates all this. I guess I should give a reread... Actually.......right in the middle of the original RTF. RTF (ECM) - Feb 1972 Capt Marvel - Mar 1972 Light as a Feather - Oct 1972 So we're BOTH right.

I always thought of this album as an off-shoot of the original RTF. I liked it a lot at the time, but it probably wouldn't make any of my Top 10 lists these days.

The man is a phenomenon. Great to hear that he's still so active filling the clubs. Cool BF- I'd love to see Hank Jones. So he played a JJ Johnson tune? Let me guess.....Lament? Which Joe Hen tune? Who else did he have in the trio? Sorry, lots of questions. Sounds like it was a fun evening. Good guess, Free - yes, it was Lament! Joe Hen "Recorda Me", Monk "Rhythma-Ning", don't remember which other tunes he played. The trio was John Clayton (b) and Clayton "?" (d) - yes, 2 Claytons. The drummer was a younger guy who I think I saw with Hank about 5 years ago. Both were excellent.

Saw 90 year-old Hank Jones with his trio tonight at Yoshi's SF. Great show! Hank seems to be doing very well. Did a very nice variety of Bird, Monk, Wes, Joe Hen, JJJ, Body & Soul, a couple of his own tunes ... and one or two others. He's getting a lifetime achievement Grammy this weekend, too.

Well I didn't look through all 4,190 albums, but you do have a very well rounded collection. I think you could use a lot of the knowledge you have to find more of what you like on your own. Having said that ... Get some more Zappa: "Grand Wazoo", "Roxy & Elsewhere", "One Size Fits All", "We're Only In It For the Money", "Apostrophe". (Good going on some of those George Duke MPS albums) You don't have The Who "Live at Leeds" (a must-have) Get U2 "Boy", their first and best album (IMHO) McCoy Tyner "Supertrios" - easy DL from eMusic Supertramp "The Autobiography Of Supertramp" - get rid of it. I hate that band. Only 1 Bad Religion? Get "Stranger than Fiction", "Process of Belief" If you like CSN&Y (you have "So Far"), get "Deja Vu" and the first CS&N album. The Cult - "Dreamtime" and "Dreamtime Live" (eMusic) Jefferson Airplane - "Crown of Creation", "After Bathing at Baxters" Jefferson Starship - "Blows Against the Empire" (this is MUCH different from the later, commercial version of the band) Return to Forever - you need the first album, "Return to Forever" (ECM) One final question: why is the font so BIG on that Excel file?

Kimball's is what I keep thinking about. They first started presenting fairly straight ahead jazz in SF's Civic Center area and then expanded to Kimball's East in Oakland. The SF venu eventually folded and became a popular restaurant while "East" went to much more commercial and dance-able forms of music.......and eventually folded as well. Having said that, I'm going to see Hank Jones at Yoshi's SF next week. Looking forward to it!

I was at that show, too. I don't remember seeing you there, 7/4. Liked the guy for a long time, myself. I have a friend who's going to that show in MN.

He was interviewed on NPR this morning and they discussed this album. He turns 80 tomorrow, too!

I'm going to hold off on Curtis Amy for now. I did order "Of Course, Of Course" and "J.J.", though (a little easier on the wallet). Besides, it's not like these albums/sets are going OOP.

As long as we're talking Adams/Pullen, you should definitely look into Mingus' "Changes One", "Changes Two" and "Mingus Moves".

But if I already have Katanga, do I "need" the Select?

Those started going up a few months ago. Some EXCELLENT stuff there. Probably can't go wrong with any of the Adams/Pullen albums, some of which are listed under just Adams and/or Pullen's names, so you have to do a little searching as they're not all in one place. Don't miss out on George Coleman's "Amsterdam After Dark" - a monster.
