  1. Yes! "Black Unstoppable" is also available on DVD from Delmark (recorded at the Velvet Lounge), and it's very good. "Xenogenesis Suite" is her latest release, and is on Firehouse 12 (not Delmark, as I may have implied above). I've have not heard it yet, but will be downloading or buying the CD soon. More discussion about Ms. Mitchell here: Profile of Flutist Nicole Mitchell Sounds good. I'll definitely be checking those out.
  2. Hmmmmmmmmm. Yeah. Really outta get myself out to see that one.

    Deep Purple

Those are the 3 DP albums I would get again (I've thought about it recently) - "In Rock" particularly. I got the first Chicago album recently, too. It definitely stands up. But of course they changed significantly over time.
  4. I guess, but it's such a sad state of affairs that she even "needed" to do that. I can't imagine that a day goes by when 90% of the American public doesn't use or at least hear that word. It's just silly ...
  5. Saw those and tagged them just because they looked interesting. Don't know anything about her, otherwise. I take it you recommend them, Skid?

    Steve Winwood

    That's what I was wondering.
  7. Not a big fan of action/fantasy/superhero films, but we have been out of town and wanted something brainless to watch on Saturday. It was fairly entertaining. Not quite as different as I was hoping it might be, but Downey was an inspired choice for the lead role and Jeff Bridges is never bad - Paltrow good, too.

I have most of their Black Jazz albums. Really enjoy all of them - especially Adam's Apple.
  9. Sounds like a great time. I went about 20 years ago and really enjoyed it. Stayed out WAY too late every night.
  10. So he's saying the necks fucked and can't be fixed? WTF... I think he's just explaining how screwed up the nut is. They expect a new shipment on 5/9, so I should be getting the replacement about a week after that. In that case, they should just replace the neck or the nut! Maybe they just don't have a neck to swap. He offered to replace both in addition to the entire guitar. The nut he could replace and ship within 24 hours, but the neck would have to be ordered. After he told me of all the problems, it seemed like this was a Fender problem and it would be much better to start from scratch. He promised to look it over before they ship the next one.

  12. I saw them on Colbert a couple of weeks ago. That's all I know about them. Definitely got my attention, though.
  13. not yet - should i? I'm not that familiar with all of Roy's work, myself, but Gatton and Buchanan are frequently mentioned in the same sentence (see other posts here). So, I'm not taking a stand on either one, but if you like one, you will probably enjoy the other. Many people consider his first Polydor album a classic.
  14. FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! Jammin' w/Slide.
  15. Yeahhhhhhhhhh. You guys all have excuses. I've been fighting with the Mujahideen in Afghanistan for the past few weeks, but I'm back now. We could try one on Thursday ...
  16. You've checked out Roy Buchanan, right?
  17. Just got back from the Mingus BB. Kumba Frank Lacy got TWO vocal numbers! He was great. So was the rest of the band.
  18. Worst than I thought. Here's what the tech at Sweetwater had to say after getting it back in the shop. At this point, I'm going to wait until they get more in stock. +++ I have your guitar up on the bench right now and found that the guy that was in charge of making the nut for your guitar didn't do a good job. The nut was sanded down too low, and thus, the slots had to barely get cut in. If I cut them any lower, the guitar will fret out on the first fret. I can already tell the D-string is barely buzzing because it is hitting the fret. Also, I noticed that the neck has a bit more relief (curve) to it than I would like to see. If I straighten it the way it should be, the strings will most certianly fret out.
  19. What happened to the weekly chat? Conn? Free? Noj? Barak? Agg?
  20. Mingus BB at Yoshi's (Oakland) tomorrow night.
  21. YOU could record that album, Free!
  22. Thanks for the heads-up on eMusic! I'm downloading it now. This is what eMusic is perfect for. You get 2 hours of music and only use 12 tracks, total! Especially interesting since I just heard this well done piece about the album on the radio this afternoon - PRI's "The World".
  23. There's a newly renovated Kabuki Theater movie multi-plex that's being run by Sundance, so there should be an interesting selection of movies, if you're into that. You are also within easy walking distance of The Fillmore Auditorium and the new Yoshi's SF. If you take Fillmore Street up the hill (North-ward) there are lots of restaurants, boutiques and coffee houses.
