  1. I saw him a number of times in the 70s at the Keystone Korner. Needless to say, he was a regular as both a leader and band member. Then I started seeing him again at SFJAZZ over the past 20 years or so. Again as a leader and with other artists. He was also a founding member of the SFJAZZ Collective. His final few years were sad because he had to use oxygen to overcome difficulties with emphysema. But he still continued to play for a while and never let that handicap slow him down.
  2. Nice to see this thread. It will be a good reference next time I jump into the CF sale bin.
  3. What do people think about Clean Feed Records? I discovered that they frequently have sales of catalog albums for €4.90/ea and have been buying a lot of them up. They have a fair amount of albums with artists I'm familiar with like Kris Davis, Tony Malaby, Peter Evans, Evan Parker, Eric Revis and others. But there are also a lot of Europeans who I don't know. Any recommendations, suggestions?
  4. That's a good one. Happy to have that in Mosaic's "The Complete Clifford Jordan Strata-East Sessions" box.
  5. I never expected that either. Glad that Org member David Weiss was on board as one of the producers of that set.
  6. Would really LIKE to hear this album, but until now it's only been available on vinyl. Today he announced that there will be a 2CD set and a digital version coming out later this year, and his site was open for pre-orders. So I went to order the CD set and it was already SOLD OUT - for a Pre-Order! What's up with that? Did they only have like 100 available or something? Makes no sense.
  7. Saw a nice interview with Ravi Coltrane at SFJAZZ tonight. I've seen him interviewed before. He's always interesting and very articulate. Same goes for tonight.
  8. 😆 It could be a problem with the actual printing of the booklet, too
  9. I'm listening to these guys for the first time in a LONG time. I forgot how great their song are. On one hand they're LA Punk 80s-90s, but on the other they're talented musicians with extremely well rehearsed vocal harmonies. On top of that, their singer, Greg Gaffin has a (copied from Wikipedia): "BA Biology, BS Geology and master's in Geology at UCLA. In 2003 he went on to earn his PhD in Zoology from Cornell University" Now playing:
  10. We finally cut the cable (Xfinity) early this year and switched to YouTubeTV for a fraction of the cost. Not only that, they carry more channels that we actually watch than the cable company (who BTW kept raising prices and taking away channels). I actually think the picture is better, too.

I'm happy to have all these Pacific Jazz sides
  12. Saw her about a year and a half ago at Big Ears. Really good show!
  13. McLaughlin and Cobham afternoon jam on the terrace at Montreux Jazz 1978
  14. Tyshawn is the BEST. I've been able to see him quite a few times in the last several years.
  15. Nice photo! Perfect ... actually 👏 I think Beat is playing in San Jose or somewhere like that later this year. Probably won't make that show.
  16. Watched this interview with the members of Beat - a band that's playing mid-80s King Crimson albums. With Belew and Levin (who were in that version of KC) plus Steve Vai and Danny Carey from the band, Tool. Very interesting conversation about the current band and also Belew/Levin's experiences in the original band with Fripp and Bruford. I need to listen to Discipline, Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair
  17. Just discovered this album (I know - I'm probably late to the party). What a trio - fantastic!
  18. The recent Bobby Hutcherson Mosaic box is tremendous!
  19. Pyroclastic released one track from this forthcoming album. Interesting combination of musicians and the track makes me want to hear more.
  20. He started posting a lot on Substack recently. Mostly about albums he listened to each day. Kind of out of the blue, since he's been kind of 'invisible' for many years. https://substack.com/@martywillsonpiper
  21. He was just here in the Bay Area. I should have gone, but I have seen him quite a few times. He's always good.
