    Saw Cindy Blackman Santana w/Vernon Reid, Carlos Santana, John Medeski and Felix Pastorius. Was supposed to be a night honoring her mentor Tony Williams, but only about 1/4 of the show was his tunes. Still, a good show and lots of energy in SFJAZZ tonight.

    I like it, and it has some really good tunes, but I never warmed to the whole album. Didn't realize that about the drummer.

    Saw JBL Trio and Mary (with Amaryllis and Belladonna) at Big Ears. Agreed that JBL can overblow, but the 2nd half of his set was more restrained and interesting. Both of Mary's sets were excellent, although I think Amaryllis (w/string quartet) was more interesting.
