  1. More Miles: Complete ‘Birth Of The Cool’ Sessions Out June 7 Any thoughts on this? You think it will be any different/better than the combined last "Complete Birth" in 1998 and the RVG version in 2001?
  2. Saw him last year with Sheila Jordan. They have a great rapport!
  3. I don't have the "Grow Fins" collection, but I do have the nicely packaged "Sun Zoom Spark" box with 'Decals,' 'Spotlight Kid,' 'Clear Spot' and a disk of unreleased outtakes. Really a shame there isn't some sort of 50th Anniversary collection.
  4. I can imagine! Saw Adams/Pullen (or Pullen/Adams ) at the Keystone Korner in 81, and then at the Village Vanguard twice in 85.
  5. They were great, for sure! Saw them a number of times and especially like their Black Saint/Soul Note albums. I regret that I never saw them with Mingus, though.
  6. Mentioned this band earlier, but have been listening to these albums specifically. Also the live one, but these are more focused. Also the last couple of Riverside albums. Just saw them live for the first time last week. A much more upbeat show than I expected, but solid as a rock.
  7. Seeing them again (for the umpteenth time) at SFJAZZ in the middle of the month.
  8. The Cookers (w/Billy, of course) do Capra Black on the "Warriors" album. Most of their albums have at least on classic BH piece. Croquet Ballet ("Cast the First Stone) Quest ("Believe") Dance Eternal Spirits Dance ("Time and Time Again") The Call of the Wild and Peaceful Heart ("The Call of the Wild and Peaceful Heart")
  9. They're going to be at the Back Room in Berkeley on June 30.
  10. Mosaic Select 16 - Andrew Hill, disk 3
  11. That's probably it.
  12. Looking forward to seeing Eric and his quartet at SFJAZZ in a few weeks. Not a huge fan, but I generally like his work and he's playing in the tiny Joe Henderson Lab. Mabern was supposed to be with him, but it was announced a while ago that because of "health reasons" (? - he seems to be gigging around the East), Eric Reed will be on piano.
  13. Big Ears Festival, March
  14. Me, too! I have the LP, but don't have a set-up to play records anymore.
  15. Has Joe Chambers/Larry Young "Double Exposure" ever been released on CD?
  16. 2020 NEA Jazz Masters & Tribute Concert at SFJAZZ Center Announced! 2020 Jazz Masters Tribute Concert THU, APR 2, 2020 · FREE CONCERT The National Endowment for the Arts, in collaboration with SFJAZZ, will honor 2020 NEA Jazz Masters Bobby McFerrin, Roscoe Mitchell, Reggie Workman, and Dorthaan Kirk—who is the recipient of the A.B. Yes it is! I might have to make it an annual trip. It helps that NYC is very affordable in January, too.
  18. Chuck! Have a great one!

Saw him tear it up with David Murray at the NYC Winter Jazzfest in March. Very impressive! In the band were the players on the new album: Ian Kenselaar (bass) and Nic Cacioppo (drums).
  21. A really good live album from these guys in their prime.
  22. What I meant was, I think I have pretty much everything from the "1963 New Directions" set except the Newport stuff. So I looked up the Impulse album (which also includes 1965) and it was only about $10, so I ordered it ASAP!
