YIKES! I was really excited until I looked at the track list of all SIX disks. WAY too many Alt Takes. It would make a nice 3-disk set, IMO.
  2. Good to know. I've been wondering about that set. There are also live cuts.
  3. She did a sit-down interview at City Arts & Lectures here in SF on Monday. I probably should have gone, but I've seen her speak on her last couple of book tours.
  4. Going to be another OUTRAGEOUS festival! I was able to get my "Sonic Explorer" pass yesterday, so ... can't WAIT!
  5. I watched CCR from the most recent re-release of the Woodstock video and thought their long jam on "Chooglin'" (I think that was the song) was excruciating. Especially since it was 90% Fogerty hogging the stage.
  6. Yes. I think tix were around $200 when he played at SFJAZZ a while back, so not unexpected. I figured it would be more like $300-500!
  7. Kris Davis' brand new album. After seeing her with Terri Lyne Carrington and Val Jeanty tonight. Excellent show!
  8. I saw Gary w/Kahil El Zabar, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Robert Irving III at the NYC Winter JazzFest in January. [Not sure what happened to my photo. Here it is again.]
  9. Yeah - the catalog has been decimated. I contacted them about that and threatened to cancel. They admitted the "problem" but said they hoped to have a better selection by the end of the year. Since my subscription ends then, they extended it by 3 months. If things don't dramatically change, I'll probably cancel anyway. It's pretty worthless right now.
  10. I like both of them. Haven't heard the new album yet, but will be seeing them next year. Tomorrow at SFJAZZ: Kris Davis' Diatom Ribbons w/Terri Lyne Carrington and Haitian DJ, sound sculptor and percussionist Val Jeanty
  11. Not exactly "rock," but nevertheless ...
  12. I think the "excitement" is now in vinyl with the BN Tone Poet and Music Matters Jazz releases.
  13. I have that. It's good! This is also supposed to be excellent, but I don't have it (yet).
  14. Tomorrow night: Brian Blade's Life Cycles. Looking forward to seeing the amazing Blade!
  15. Good for Mary and Lynda! Seen Mary quite a bit lately. I like the diversity she participates in.
  16. I have this Remains disk. Good stuff! * QMS: Agreed that they were never quite the same after Happy Trails, but those first 2 albums are iconic. * I always liked that Lee Michaels album, too. Especially the side-long "Tell Me How Do You Feel" suite. I could do without Frosty's extended drum solo, but still great B-3 and vocals.
  17. Agreed! This album is nearly as good as "Happy Trails", too!
  18. Absolutely! He had an instantly recognizable sound. NObody played bass like Jack. He was an early member of the Tony Williams Lifetime, played with Carla Bley and contributed mightily to a number of Kip Hanrahan albums, among many others.
  19. Can't wait!
  20. Yes. Far more advanced as a composer and it becomes more obvious in his post-Cream albums both as a leader and sideman. His playing was also more original - not strictly based on American blues players. "Harmony Row" is a 'Desert Island Disk' for me.
